Introducing the list of the 10 worst new car trends of 2022! Sure, some can t exactly be helped. For example, take a look at soft limiters. Loads of manufacturers are fitting these to newer cars due to emissions regulations. We re not happy about it, but we can kind of understand where they re coming from. But then again, not all trends have to be adopted, yet we still see them continue to appear on new cars! For example, what s with so many electric cars rolling up with front grilles? It s not like they ve got an engine that needs cooling! These are just two of the trends we find most annoying in 2022. To find out what the others are, stick with Mat in this all-new video

Call me a fake car lover all you want, I personally soft limiters are massively overhated. A performance car is about giving thrills to the driver, not people standing outside it. Revving is also childish and did it not ever occur to anyone that maybe people demanding inappropriate driving in an urban setting, are partly to blame for noise regulations? That said, most noise I hear when cars drive past is tyre noise, not engine noise. In that sense, performance cars are being slightly punished. As for side-view cameras, the Honda e s one are what manufacturers who want to adopt that kind of thing should do. They don t protrude so much and the screens where the driver has to look are right in The Eye-line of where a traditional mirror would be.

One trend I hate is this black roof obession especially on white cars. Some people like adding a carbon boot/bonnet and you've made your car look like a private hire mini cab. Many manufacturers don't give you the option to paint it the same colour as the body. Stop it!

In my opinion a grill makes cars look soooo much better! Porsche can get away with it because their vehicles never had a front grill but it just gives a car a cool design and establishes its road presence way better. KEEP THE GRILLS!

Regarding PHEVs: it costs me five times less to drive electric versus driving the ICE. Normally I only use the electric engine most of the time. But it s a relief to pass by long queues of Teslas at superchargers during holiday season.

And you forgot about the biggest nowadays. Offering expensive BEVs that cost almost the same as a house, full of tech gimmicks as an iPad on wheels, and branding it as zero emissions, Eco friendly, reliable or maintenance free.

One of the most beautiful bmw was the old 8series. Where the define brand grill was as minimal where only enthusiasts where going to recognise and love it.
Matt keep up the great job.

Agree with all of your points, except the grill on EV. Especially on SUV it will look too simple and boring, and we can agree that Tesla is not a benchmark in design, that s for sure.

One that isn t on the list but one I am getting tired off, more and more SUVs particularly all electric versions than small to medium sized hatchbacks would be more ideal
