Meet the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser! It s been 72 years since Toyota released the very first Land Cruiser, and since then there have been over 10 generations of this off-roading legend! The question is, has this new edition been worth the wait? Well based on looks alone, we d say it definitely has! The new Land Cruiser rolls up with a retro, boxy design that reminds us of a classic Defender, Suzuki Jimny, and Mercedes G-Class. Whether you re looking at it from the front, side, or rear, the boxy design is clear to see and we absolutely love it! What s more, Toyota will also be releasing a limited edition First Edition model which ramps up the retro style even more! This will arrive with rounded headlamps, as well as the choice of some limited-edition two-tone paint jobs. While the exterior is keeping things retro, the interior has been notably modernised. It may keep things a bit boxy, but there s a huge infotainment screen on the dash, a digital drivers display, as well as a large centre console that can even house a fridge. There are a couple of engine choices available, although they won t be released in all markets. When it comes to petrol, the entry-level will be a 2. 7-litre 4-cylinder with 163hp and 246Nm. There will also be a more powerful 2. 4-litre turbo petrol with 281hp and 430Nm, however, both of these won t be available globally. The entry-level diesel is a 2. 8-litre turbo diesel with 204hp and 500Nm, which is pretty similar to the engine from the outgoing Land Cruiser. You can also expect a mild hybrid and full hybrid selection to go on sale in the future. We don t know the price yet, but given the last Land Cruiser cost from at least 40, 000, you can expect to be paying a bit more for this new model. But will it be worth it! You ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Absolutely love this! Cant wait to see these on the road. Shame they don't get detuned V6's from the 300 though. Also pity they still continue with the gutless 2. 7l petrol, they really struggle in Nairobi (5000ft above sealevel)

Most crossovers currently only seem capable and rugged. They don't actually offer that capabilities and longevity. But SUVs like 4Runner TRD Pro, Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser, even the baby prado they are actually tough.

You would be nuts to buy a Defender over this. Can't trust Land Rover to build a car that is even remotely reliable and the Landcruiser is known as one of the most reliable cars in the world.
reply

Im surprised that someone like Mark who should know that this is actually a Prado, rebadged for Europe and America to fool them buying something better than a Prado. You disappoint me Mark.

I'm happy Toyota is dialing it back to the formula they had in the 80s - a straightforward 4x4 utility. I wonder what this means for the 4Runner now that they seem to occupy the same space.

Nope 300 looks better. Ill pass. RangeRover best looker of all. This looks like a jeep patriot from the rear. Bring back the FJ Cruiser un touched and watch them sell like hotcakes.

The dedication to the series is amazing. I m always impressed how quickly each shirt is out and wanting to know what happens next. It just keeps getting better and better

Don t really care for the 4 runner I mean land cruiser! I like the Chevy Silverado, it s off road! The Lexus looks good! Surely no one would ever steal that ugly vehicle? Lol

Bold choice in design. Prado is a smart car and doesn't look outdated from inside either. Driving isn't bad either. So this design philosophy is definitely a bold choice.

The new design wasn't catchy at all at first glance but its gradually growing on me. I prefer a more modern look and hopefully the higher end model will be that way.

Anyone who thinks the new Prado or 70 series look good needs a slap in the face. You're paying 100k for a car that looks like a 40 series. Toyota isn't that amazing
reply

This is a Prado (LC250. The real next generation Land Cruiser (LC300) is already out in Middle East and Japan and it's better and bigger than this one.
reply

Tbh it looks more like a defender and nothing like a Prado. Maybe the new design will grow on me but for now this isn t a Land Cruiser for me

Toyota Land Cruiser is so legendary that it will be bought everywhere, no matter what others say. And I really like the new one
