The reason we love our 80 series (coming from an Aussie): Coil springs, factory diff locks, toyota parts availability, toyota reliability, huge aftermarket support and that sweet 1HD-FT (twin overhead cam factory turbo diesel that goes forever, petrol-or-gas models are worthless here. I think from our perspective we love them over the older even more basic models is they are actually better off-road, more power from a much better engine, way more flex (especially modified) from that sweet 4-corner coil suspension. The 60 series for instance is also loved, but the engines don't compare and 4-wheel leaf suspension is terrible for extreme stuff.

How can this be the most pathetic rebadging on any car ever? The front is actually distinguishable. GM just puts a different badge on cars and that's REALLY it. Remember all the Holden imports? Or the Chevy/GMC cars? Ridiculous. btw, what do you expect from a 4. 5 L V6 from the 90s that moves an SUV around? Of course it's thirsty AF. This is a car for the US market after all where fuel efficiency has not been a big thing most of the time (unlike nowadays. And lol the styling score. this thing is borderline ugly, anything more than a 3 is ridiculous. Value is also way too high.

Doug is really the pessimist. The third row was (at the time) functional and effective and having owned 80, 100, 120 and 200 series LC, it does not obstruct the rear view in no shape way or form. If you must see the edges of the outermost corner rear window, you re not giving your side mirrors no justification. Your Land Rover doesn t come close in reliability, quality, ruggedness and comfort. So no, it is nowhere near crap

My father had a 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser. That car was the hardest and most badass car I have ever been in. It was a diesel manual and used to absolutely takeoff in the second gear. If you rammed and crashed that car into a modern day LC, you could totally crush the modern day LC. It was definitely a tank. There was one thing though. The suspension was very stiff and the drive was very uncomfortable.

I don't think Doug mentions it, but the 80 Series Landcruiser made its debut in 1990. so you are talking about a vehicle designed in the 1980's! Given that, I think it's fantastic. This car vehicle was one year off from the all-new 100 Series LandCruiser. A comparison with a 100 Series from a year later and you would see the sizeable difference in design and luxury.

One of my first jobs in the late 90's was in a Toyota dealer, new car sales dept. These 80 Series are worth their weight in gold, the car Doug is testing is magnificent, these things OOZE quality and reliability. Tyler Hoover bought a pretty rough similar age Lexus LX which he spruced up and took off road, he proclaimed it the world's best SUV, he's not wrong.

My 32-year-old HJ 60-series Landcruiser is still running strong with almost 400, 000 km (250, 000 mi) on the odometer. I have never had a vehicle that was quite as mechanically bulletproof before or since. As long as you keep the fluids topped up, it will last forever. It currently works as a farm runabout on a large cattle farm in country Australia.

I would rather have one of those than any of the current model SUVs with all of there electronics that you know are going to stop working at some point. The parking brake handle is so much better than an electric one, It's no contest, that model Land Cruiser is so much better than anything today. Just wish I could buy a new one just like that one.
