I used to work for a guy who owned one of these. Even when he bought it, he would tell me how few had been sold nationwide. He liked quirky cars, as his vehicle before this was the now-defunct Lincoln pickup truck. I never rode in his ELR though. The idea of this car and the Volt was that the short electric range covered normal day-to-day driving and that the engine was backup for longer trips. Thus, someone could theoretically go for a month or two between gas fillups. I think the styling is gorgeous. I hate the door handles. I sat in this and a Corvette at an auto show. After I figured out how to enter the car, I panicked after I closed the door because I could not find the door handle. It took me some time to push the single button with the single white dot to open the door to exit. Not intuitive.

A distant neighbor has one of these but when he was showing it off for me ( hadn't seen him for a year or so, he failed to mention a couple of these downsides. It looks good sitting in his garage - he has this exact same color and the interior looks overstuffed luxury like all Caddy's do. Basically I was there trying to show off our Tesla Model 3 and he sort of hinted that his ELR was in that almost EV category. I try to keep up with newer car models but I never heard of this thing. He did mention that he saw it at the dealer for 80k and it was too pricey for him then but went back 5 months later and all 5 examples were still on the lot so he got it for 25k less. It's basically a 55k paperweight, in my opinion.

So when I bought mine for NINETEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS, would it be considered a better car? Ive seen some 20k cars that are definitely worse than this. Point is, your critique is subjective rather than objective, based on the purchase price. I do enjoy your reviews, but this one, I believe, is considerably off. Im not disagreeing with you because I am passionate about this car. Its a fine car and an excellent value at 19, 000. I also have a Bentley Continental GT, which you have also reviewed more favorably. Both cars have pros and cons. No offense, but you seem to get focused on one aspect of a vehicle and drive it into the ground. No pun intended. I havent stopped watching your videos, yet.

I bought one used for 28K. Actually, the one in this video looks almost exactly like mine (I tinted my windows. You are spot on about the blind-spots and the back seat is virtually non-existent for passengers. But I can tell you, the styling turns heads everywhere I go here in Los Angeles. That actually kind of sucks sometimes, because young guys pull up thinking it's something that they can race, and I tell them all the time that's not the mission of this car. they'd do better racing a Prius. The thing I love is my lifetime 62. 3 MPG

At the time I had a Lexus CT200 and was kinda impressed when I checked out the Volt, I got excited at the possible, ok theoretical, configurations of the upcoming ELR. So let down. so let down. I had to put that in the cabinet I have of GM crushed dreams of concept cars that never made it to market. Now I'm excited about a Corvette C8/Cadillac version. Damn you GM.

Does plug in hybrid mean that the battery cannot be charged by driving the car on its IC engine? If that is the case. well that is really dumb. if in the market for a hybrid, I would think the idea is not having to leave it plugged in. or you would just go full electric. Or is plug in hybrid meaning that you have the option of charging off mains power?

If nothing changed, sooner or later we will only find US made car in history museums. The sad thing is Toyota start to have American Engineers designing their cars and SUVs and I can see that the windows are getting narrower and narrower on each of the new models. It feels confined when you sit in a car with tiny glass area on a window.

I actually have a pre owned ELR and watched the review - aint even mad. He actually said some good things about it. But he didnt mention the most important things about the car; Ive been averaging 225 mpg with it (suck it Prius losers. Also, because its based on the Volt platform, it costs 0 to maintain.

Doug the Type of guy to be upset if a car does not have automated windscreen wipers seriously, who wants Them? If it rains hard they dont recognize it and if there is just a little splatter they go instant rage mode How can humanity send robots to mars but not figure out automated windscreen wipers?
