The 2022 Audi S3 Is a Fun Sport Sedan that Rivals the Golf R

The new Audi S3 is a fun sport sedan - and it's a close rival to its Volkswagen Golf R sibling (among other cars. Today I'm reviewing the S3, and I'm going to show you all the quirks and features of the new Audi S3. I'm also going to drive the S3 and review the driving experience of the 2022 Audi S3. Hammy: I was deciding between this and the Genesis G70 prestige 3. 3liter. Same exact price point, however, you get alot more bang for your buck with the Genesis. Much more reliable, much cheaper maintenance, alot more horsepower and torque, a much nicer and killer interior. So basically, the G70 puts this S3 to shame in juat about every aspect despite being the same exact price lol. Unless you are just obsessed with this car and are an Audi fan boy, then you're getting ripped off compared to what else you could be getting for your money at this price range

I'm an Audi/VW lover. I have a Golf R, my wife has a Q5. But all they did here was cancel out the Passat, put an Audi badge on it and made it less affordable to people. If they marketed this like they do their other vehicles - here's the VW version for everybody, here's the Audi for the luxury market, that would be fine. But to eliminate one of their most popular vehicle and reduce their money-making brand down while charging 50k for a basic sports sedan? Blah.

2 thousand dollars more with less horsepower, no heated steering wheel, the weaker Haldex AWD system in comparison to the Golf R, no ventilated seats, no hatch, no manual option. Youre losing a TON of features in the S3 compared to the Golf R. The Golf R is a bargain at the price point. adapt to the touch controls, i'm sure in daily use they are acceptable. If you buy the S3 over the Golf R in this generation, you really are just buying it for the badge. imo.

Remember people, it takes the GERMANS to run the wipers on an 800 failure prone COMPUTER!
Those door handles could get you killed. Motorist reaches for door handle to exit the car. Police: OMG! The motorist is reaching for a WEAPON! Ventilate the car! Motorist: No, no the weapon is in the dash. Here let me get it for you.

5: 02 Audi does offer a hatchback version of the A3, S3, and RS3. I don't know if it is available in the US, but it is something that Audi offers. If it is not available in the US, this seems more like a US problem than an S3 problem. Nevertheless, this is only a minor criticism, and overall, it is still a great review.

comparing the Golf R, which comes fully loaded, to a base S3 which is super de-contented is kinda not a fair comparison tbh Doug. If you want a non-shit sound system, HUD, adaptive cruise, adaptive dampers etc you're at 55k. So it's about a 10k price difference, same as it was in the previous generation.

I think the starting MSRP you mentioned for the s3 comes with basically no equipment that most people will get their cars with, vs. the golf R which always comes fully loaded with all the gizmos. Not everyone likes all the gizmos but when comparing price I think it's important to keep that in mind

You forgot to mention that the S3 is still using a haldex AWD system while the Golf R swapped it for one with rear wheel torque vectoring, this is a major factor in making the Golf R about 20 seconds faster than the old model around the Nurburgring

Doug - I'm a big Golf R fan, but had to let you know you quoted the wrong torque figure, at least for North America. While the Euro version of the Golf R gets 310 lb-ft, we get 295 lb-ft 2000 rpm in the DSG version, and 280 1900 in the 6mt.

It seems ridiculous that in the Golf R they decided - We have a lot of customers who want to MANUALLY change their transmission yet they also decided that these same people wouldn't want knobs for climate controls.
