It's called the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. Which is already law in the US. And it pretty much denies warrantors the right to void your warranty for having repairs done by you or someone else(ie besides them. By pretty much I mean without offering to perform the repair themselves, free of charge, or offering a full refund. They also can't demand which brand of parts(ie OEM) have to be used(for the repair. or on the product at all. Which nullifies any and all removing this sticker/seal will invalidate your warranty attempts. Those stickers/seals are meaningless and illegal in the US.

AKA proprietary knowledge. It is a backdoor methid for manufactures to give the dealers a guaranteed revenue stream. Wait for a Korean or European manufacturer to offer software for free if you purchase their vehicles. The gain in sales would force all makes to adopt similar free access. Independent shops could organize to obtain a lobbyist to speak for them as a group in the interm. Greed will work for auto makers in the short term but longterm it erodes brand loyalty.

Few know about Planned Obsolescence (see wiki) -Deliberate product defects by manufacturers for a percentage of products. This taxes those shops offering warranty on labor. This is to ensure future sales, keeps production stable and jobs secure. Products usually last the 1yr warranty period for items 15. and up. BUT the acceptable percentage is higher in bad economy when people have less to spend and hurts poor people the most.

In the past 23 years in my cars I've been the only safety device. Worked out fine so far. Whenever I'll fail, I'll recall myself. Car makers shot themselves in the foot with all these new safety features, as less people are buying new cars. Audi plans to fire 10% of their factory workers in some plants. I'm sure others will follow. The whole industry is going down the toilet right now.

Right to Repair is a big issue in high tech these days, too. Louis Rossman has been showing videos of lobbyists trying to kill a Massachusetts bill that would allow independent repair shops access to information to repair smart phone and laptops, etc. It's crap, and I try to avoid manufacturers that want to put independent repair shops out of business.

Many more states must pass right to repair laws. Currently I know of only state, Massachusetts I think. The law states If you want to sell automobiles you must provide, at a reasonable cost, service data and special tools (includes software) to anyone. So they have to provide a service manual but they can't charge 10, 000 for it.

pentagon funds scientific study: results show that society and the us military will collapse within 20 years due to climate change. conspicuous consumption and planned obsolescence have a terminal date apparently. who would have guessed infinite growth on a finite planet in a pseudo-capitalist paradigm wouldn't last forever?

Back in the early 90s I believe, the gov was going to pass laws making it illegal for individuals to work on their own cars. There was a lot of push back from the parts stores, people and even mechanics like Scotty. It didn't pass but laid the ground work for all the laws restricting people in just about everything else today.
