Dont Let This Happen to Your Cars Transmission Newfie-Dean: You cant just say that the transmission is gone from his explanation. I had a short in the electrical system of a Mustang that was causing my transmission to act up. I had people say it was an internal issue and that the transmission was gone. I could put the car in drive and give it gas and it would act like it was in neutral. I found the short in the engine fuse box and fixed it and the transmission problem was solved. There are a lot of electrical issues that can make people think they have a transmission problem. Transmissions have adaptive learning too and there are times when people think they have a transmission problem when in fact it is solved by clearing the adaptive learning. You cant just say a transmission is gone on the basis of age. I have had many high mileage and older vehicles (all Fords) and I have never had a transmission fail.

I have a 2017 Ford Explorer XLT SUV. I parked on a barely slight hill, facing down and the car was in reverse, because I wanted to get a little closer to the curb, but before I hit the gas to go into reverse, I had taken my foot off the brake and moved something to the back seat, (Im still in reverse, and the car started drifting forward. ( I was still in reverse, car facing down hill. I thought I was hallucinating, but the car kept very slowly going forward. After slowly going several feet, I hit the brake. I took it to the dealership, but they said not to worry about it I am able to get it to do it again, but not all the time. Now, I hear there is a recall for the Ford trucks transmissions. and, some guy died because he was driving his truck on the freeway, when the transmission locked-up and I think he might have gone through the windshield.

Just need a little help with this question I have a 2015 Subaru legacy 2. 5 and when the vehicle is in park when in press the break peddle all the way the engine shakes and a vibration can be felt threw out the car. Subaru tech replaced the brake booster due to a vacuum leak they found when I brought the car in. Now that I have gotten the car back with the replaced booster the couple day later the car is doing the same thing and I went back and they are saying the vibration when pressing the breaks in park is normal. Is the car supposed to vibrate when pressing the break peddle or are they trying to get out of a repair

Hey Scotty can you help me? My poor little 02 Hyundai Accent developed a problem where when in gear the whole car hiccups usually two times quickly every minute or so at idle. When driving its fine, just idling is the problem. The RPMS dont change so Im thinking its the transmission. I took her in to a shop and they said theres a problem with the wiring going to the ECM. they didnt get specific. The ECM is inside under the dash, do you think if I swapped the ECM it would fix the problem? The transmission has 200, 000 miles on it but the fluid has been kept up and is still red.

Hi Scotty, Thanks for all the info and cool videos. I have a 1991 Toyota pickup, long bed (no other identifiers. It has the 22r engine and manual 5 speed transmission (no dip stick. I want to try to change the fluid myself to save some money. I can probably find the drain and fill plugs (because I watched a YT video: ) but I dont know how much fluid to put back in AND I dont know what KIND of fluid to use. All the products I can find say automatic transmission. What fluid goes in there and how much of it? THANK YOU so much for your help.

Scotty, my mothers maxima still bugs me. It smoked with 50k miles on it, probably valve guides. Thing is, oil was changed regularly and religiously on it every 5, 000 miles. What gives then? Car is 2008, and it started doing that in 2019, so its roughly 10 years old. 50k/5000 miles gives us 5 oil changes in those 10 years, or roughly every 2 years. Now I know oil has to be changed every 3000 miles or every 6 months, which ever comes first. So tell me, can changing oil on mileage but not on time cause valve guides to go?

Actually theres a sensor on side of transmission its a gear switch i had one on a Pontiac Trans Am, 1996 model it wouldnt go in reverse and you had to floor it in drive to move just a little but I switched that little black box on side of transmission with a little up for wires you cant miss it. Changed it never had another problem from it. So when a person gives you a high dollar price to fix. Keep that in mind. Look at everything your self sometimes its something easy.

Scutty like ur answers and mostly make alot of since. But i really did not understand ur reply about the diseal engine oil and gasoline engine oil as u said that the piston will lose its carbon diposets in the gasoline engine if u used diesal engine oil in gasoline engine but the engine oil is not sappose to inter the cylinders burning chamber so what does the burning of fuel have to do with the engine oil except cooling as cooling oil and fuel have there saparat passeages

I have a 2012 Impala with 147, 000 miles, I love the power of the 3. 6 LFX engine (advertiesed 300+hp, so it makes a good sleeper. But ever since it hit about 75, 000 miles, throttle cuts off sometimes when I turn the steering left. Mechanic says speed sensor is corroded or damaged. Both side front hub assemblies has been replaced twice but the problem does not go away. Surprisingly the suspension and engine is still good, water pump has a small leak if revved.

I think most cars with the electronics on all the time have a setting you can do (usually slightly complicated so not done by accident) that turns everything off for situations where the car will sit unused. A week, or even a month is probably fine without doing anything special. Easiest if youre concerned, or your battery isnt at its best would be to buy a _good_ trickle charger and hook it up when you store it. RichE
