I am a Scotty viewer. Dare I even say, a fan, but sometimes, he's wrong. I have a 1991 Honda Civic, and a 1992 Lexus SC400, both of which I keep in mint condition, and daily drive, and have done so for years. The Civic has been a daily since 1991. These are machines, and not pets. If stuff wears out, and you keep on top of maintaining them, they simply continue to, live. My best friend has a 1993 RX-7 which he daily drives. No problems, aside from the inherent impracticality that came baked-into that car. I have 4 other friends with the same model Civic I have, who daily them. No problems. Do issues arise? Sure, but it's still waaaaay cheaper to keep an old car going, than to pony up the cash of a new one. I respect Scotty's experience, but on this one, the facts don't support him.

What are the odds that optima batteries is being run by an accountant, like so many companies are? They only look at income and expenditure. They have no perception of customer satisfaction, ethical performance, production quality or anything else that contribute to the longevity of the company. All they do is cut costs in any way they can while charging as much as they think they can get away with. Then when the company goes out of business because former customers turn away from them they exit ahead of time with a golden parachute. So how do so many accountants, who know nothing about the business, keep getting appointed to the top jobs? Maybe they know the dark secrets of the company and use that as leverage to be appointed as top dog.

Dr. Scotty, huh? What was your major? There is nothing wrong with a Ph. D. working on cars but it is rare to see or hear about. Hell, I have one myself and although I never worked as a mechanic I am cheap enough that if something breaks in my home (other than plumbing or working on vehicular mechanical components -- the damage potential of a screw-up scares me, I repair it myself. That reminds me, I have a few projects around the house that need to be done. Just because I don't work on cars doesn't mean I can't learn a bit about it (and most of my relatives do their own car maintenance anyway.

Scotty my car vibrates around at 80mph (75mph speed limit) and when I ease off the gas pedal. the car has a very noticeable vibration. What would you say it might be? I changed passenger rear axle with new one. Getting to driver side soon. Tire's are still good. I don't think tires/rims are off balance. Changing spark plugs. look clean. I'm stumped. I let a mechanic drive it but he never got it up to highway speeds, said I don't feel anything, it's smooth like butter. Help'07 Toyota/Lexus V6 2. 5L engine RWD

Scotty is awesome. He has an answer for everything. Now I have a question. I have a Volvo V70 2004 2. 4l in excellent condition. The only thing I can complain about is the electric side mirrors lives there own life. Sometimes they stop working. But if I wait long enough they will always work eventually. Sometimes it takes a minute or 10 minutes. On a side note. The electric adjustable drivers seat is doing that once in the blue moon too if that can be to any help diagnosing the problem. Many thanks.

My father had a '49 Chrysler Windsor, fluid drive, flathead straight 6. When I was a wee lad we made many trips to the mountains in that car. Mom drove a '48 Plymouth Club Coupe with 3-on-the-tree. Those cars were heavily built and very reliable. but according to Dad, repairs were expensive. Unfortunately he sold them off in 1966, a couple years before I got my license; I ended up with the hand-me-down '60 Ford Falcon. It is a shame what Chrysler has become.

Scotty moving production to Mexico doesnt mean the quality is bad. The problem isnt Mexico. The problem is the companies deciding to decrease the quality. Has nothing to do with the country thats making them. If companies desire to make cheaper products they will suck even if made in the USA. You make it seem like the people making the products in other countries arent skilled enough to produce good products if companies didnt decrease quality.
