Doing This Will Reset Your Car and Fix It for Free Petar Doynov: Skotty, one friend has a problem. We tried to start another car using the battery of his Ford Transit, because the Jetta had a broken battery with a voltage less than 3, 6V Yes, we did it without a success, but the other car was stopped at a diagonal on the street on a very strong climbing up. But the broblem is that after that try the computer of the Transit have a troubles - the lamp for the ABS and one more lamp did turn up and we can't fix it, even after I did a reset of the errors in the computer of the Transit. And there is no error about the electric circuit, only two errors about the injectors and the fuel line. What can be? The computer of the ABS? And another question. I can connect without a problem with the computer of his Transit, but not to the computer of my Ford Focus Combi 2002 TDCi (5 gears) and I want to check my computer too, because there is after gas after I stop to give gas and I press the clutch pedal. And my Focus consumes about 6 litres /100 Kilometres diesel. By the book it had to be 4, 5 - 4, 7 litres pro 100 Kilometres, and I drive only at the highway. A suggestion? Thanks

Most new cars now have an isolated dedicated seperate battery for just the computer's and electronics. So disconnecting the main battery won't do anything. The 2018 Durango my wife had has that. By the way, worst SUV in the world. Was in the shop every month for some electrical issue. Also, this is not always good practice. Clearing codes without checking if they are valid is a bad idea and can end up costing you a ton of money. Also, if you have even a cheap diagnostic scanner you can just clear it that way. There's even OBDII apps for smart phones that let you check and clear codes via bluetooth or cable. I use my Samsung Note 9 to run diagnostic checks, tune and code my BMW 535i all the time. Cost me less than 300 bucks for the apps and cable.

I have a Honda Fit that Im about to give to my son to take to college and keep. Sure enough with a few days left, it's got a real weird issue. The pass. high beam is out, low beam is fine. Now the pass. brake light is out. Can't be both bulbs. I've never seen that. The only thing I've done is remove the fuse for the Daytime Running Lights (months ago. I hate DTRL. After noticing this light issue, I decided to replace that fuse yesterday, started it, and immediately got a 'DTRL' warning light. Hmmm But After a few key cycles, it's off. The battery has been rather weak for some time, so I decided to buy a new one last night. Going to install it here in a few. Im hoping that pass. side pattern will be taken care of. Wish me luck.

On a 2003 dodge Durango and we bought this vehicle brand new the engine light came on at 47, 000 they told us it was the EVAP PURGE VALVE which made the engine check light come on and stay on we did not feel like we should be charged for ( this is what you get when you by a dodge) because we babied this darn vehicle 100% gas no ethanol and regular oil changes, to get it to pass the emissions here in Chattanooga I would buy a brand new gas cap, take both battery terminals off wait 3 minutes, drive it about an hour, which reset the computer, I had to turn the A. C. on because the darn thing would stall on you, just die at a red light but it would pass the emissions every time without failure and I did this for over 6 years

Some cars will not run. Found out the hard way. Replaced a starter in Beemer. Seems that one had a theft program in it. If you disconnect the power it stops functioning. Of course the dealer will supply the needed code, for a price. I guess the think behind that is disconnecting the battery also disconnects the GPS transponder so the thief can't be tracked. But the savvy thief will just use a computer to start the car and other specialized equipment and just drive it away. This keyless remote crap is not without some leakage.

I think this idle thing happened to me recently. They replaced the 02 sensor and then I went to crank it after having it sit for a day and it revd up and lost idle. I proceeded to complain to the dealer and switched cars for a week. Then, when I went to take it to the dealer, I ran the car with no a/c as an precaution, got there, and couldnt reproduce the fault with or without a/c on. It must have just been that the computer hadnt fully reset the idle yet.

Hi Scotty. When I turn AC on and hold idle at 2000 rpm like you do at 4: 18, my car won't maintain idle at 2000rpm. It will jump to 2500, then go back to 2000, then jump again to 2500, in conjunction to the AC engaging and disengaging to the engine. my car is 1500cc Honda. Is it a normal condition and if it isn't, is there any way to stop this? This makes my car exhibit very annoying behavior when crawling in first gear (manual trans. Thank you.

Remember when you disconnect the battery there are a ton of items that will fail you in an inspection until they reset. They of course for my 2012 Impala take several days for this to happen assuming a somewhat normal use or in my case with low use it took a few weeks. I live in Delaware. You can also do a search to have these reset in less than an hour but good luck finding somewhere to go to jump through those hoops.

SCOTTYYYYY Or, anyone else here. I have 2010 Chevy Silverado. I want to de-activate the tire sensors. One as been faulty for years and, it is only possible to get fixed at the car dealer. I find that gadget/sensor way too expensive to fix ( near 150. 00 ) also, I am old school. I always walk around my truck before driving away. I don't need big brother to tell me if my tire pressure is low. Thank you very much.
