LOL. Scotty. I love your different points of view and perspectives. But I have caught you several times blowing smoke. Just like in this one. You constantly knock GM and love your older celica. Nothing wrong with liking something that lasts and keeps on running. But there are a couple things to consider when making your claims. You are a mechanic and maintain your vehicles. In such a way that most other people in the world will not or can not do. Much less afford to. Just like the Blazer. I am certain that if you had one that yours would outlast most by several hundreds of thousands of miles. I also am a mechanic and have been one for 20+ years. And in my part of the country the ones we see in the shop over and over are the Ford trucks, Hyundai, and Hondas. Mostly because that is what is prevalent in my area. And because they do not maintain them they are constantly having issues. Case in point, my 1993 Z28. Yep made by GM. Over 214k on the odometer when most everyone else's is long gone and in the scrap yard. Is it the best car ever? Certainly not. But then no car is because they make new cars every year. Just like your celica. It at one time was new and someone some where was probably talking about how they were crap and would not buy one. So I take what you say about new cars not being any good with what you call a big ole grain of salt. Just like when you bash cars about not being good and falling apart but yet you talk about how they are so much safer than the old ones. Which is a factor that goes into figuring out the car of the year. Price vs what you get, safety, and so on. Just more double talk to make videos

Scotty, I have 2 cars. I know you will like 2007 Toyota Camry with 35K original miles on Mobil One with Hankoock tires. This car is as dependable as can be with exceptional gas mileage. The other is my project car. I am over 90% done restoring my 2001 Cadillac Eldorado ETC with 74K miles. I would appreciate any advice you can offer other than replacing my brake and gas lines at this point. I like older Caddys and restore them and then drive them for a while. I completely restored a 72 Sedan Deville which gave e 18 mpg when I switched it from an electric fuel pump to a manual one in the restoration. The ride as you would expect was smoothe as glass. I know you are busy so I will let you go and thank you for your time. Eddie

DeLorean: 2. 8L V6 PRV (like you'll find in many Volvos or other other European cars like the Alpine); Transmission: Renault 5 speed, assuming the 3 speed automatic was also Renault - but who wants that version anyway? ; DeLorean was the American, built in the British homeland (aka Northern Ireland-Belfast. A lot of British engineering qwerks, Lucas electronics jokes, and a GM a/c system. Brakes are from Jaguar. Chassis designed by Lotus and similar to the Esprit. A good or great car? No. An attention getter? Very much so. So if you like to draw attention, it's good for that. Despite not being manufactured since 1983, parts are easily available from Houston or across the pond.

I had a 95 blazer back in the day and liked it, but the transmission went out on the way from Nebraska to Colorado. The dealership said the transmission had a total failure and they didn't know why. My new rebuilt tranny only cost me 99 dollars because I had an extended warranty. And the dealership gave me a rental car for the week while they fixed my Blazer. Same thing happened to my ford windstar only I didn't have the extended warranty that time. I guess my comment is pretty pointless: -)I'm thinking that maybe the transmissions weren't serviced on time and regularly. Nobody wants to coff up 200 bucks for a fluid change and then it never gets done.

Scotty is a typical old school mechanic who only sees people who don't know how to maintain their own cars well and thus sees many many lemons and makes conclusions on quality about those. It's not accurate, but I still watch these videos to learn about car parts which only mechanics who have seen lots of lemons know. Key: i used to own a junk car and i appreciate it now because it taught me all about everything that can fail in a car. It was a Nissan.

The part about the wheel bearing isnt entirely true. I was able to change mine at home with a 100 wheel bearing remover kit from harbor freight. It was a hitch to get the old one out had to use a torch but I finally did it. My first time too so if your determined enough and not the quitting type then go for it. You will be glad you did and youll learn something new.

Hey Scotty, I have a 79 F100 with a 302 engine that has exhaust headers. Where would you recommend that I get the gaskets for the headers at? The headers were already there when I bought the truck. Also where would you recommend that I get valve cover gaskets? Im wondering because I have a minor oil leak coming from the valve covers.

Scotty: wrong on the Delorean in a few points. 1) not heavy. About 2800 lbs. 2) the stainless was not cheap and did not rust. The frame made of regular sheet metal DID rust if not cared for. 3) transmissions were Renault, not Swedish. Junky? Yeah. But theres an amazing support network to deal with shortcomings.

I've had 6 Volkswagens from the early 90's until now. They have been very reliable for me and I've had new ones and used ones. Key thing with VW is they must be properly MAINTAINED If you think you're going to buy one and use regular oil and change it every 10k miles yes you're going to have problems
