Here\'s Why No One Wants a Minivan Mike Skidmore: I had a Chrysler 1999 mini Van with 170, 000 miles on it. Leather seats great Stereo Decent MPG. My friend sold it to me for 1, 700. not long after he spent 2, 200 getting the Transmission rebuilt. I hit a deer with it. Replaced Radiator. Condenser got a junk yard hood ect. The 3. 8 V-6 had about double the power the transmission could handle which is no problem it you don't floor it during acceleration. I regret selling it. but was being harassed by local Government for having too many cars and trucks. I was willing to sell it because I knew that Michigan Cancer was going to destroy it before it wore out. Also Strut Towers rust out. but I had put the Chrysler repair kit in with an epoxy glue that is stronger than metal.

I had a 2007 Odyssey, I traded it in for a 2015. I did not have any problems with the 07 but I only had 57, 000 miles on it. The only reason I traded it in was for a few of the safety features and an Mp3 player on the new Odyssey, I only put on about 4, 000 miles a year now so the 2015 will probably be the last car I buy (I am 77)I only have 17, 000 miles on it now. I am a member of the Odyssey owners club and there seem to be quite a few problems with the engine that goes from 6 cylinders to 3 to save fuel. The consensus on the board is to install a muzzler so it stays in 6 cylinder mode, so I did that. Some of the cars with the eco mode did have problems with burning oil and tearing out the rear motor mount. If I drive 60-65 MPH I get about 33 MPG, if I push it to 70-75 MPH I get about 29 MPG. I change the oil once a year using the full synthetic 0W20 oil. I will change the transmission fluid every 30, 000 miles. As far as the Sienna goes my friend had one and it started to fall apart after 125, 000 miles.

Maybe all the bad ones went to Texas. My Odyssey is an '06. I bought it in '07 with 8k miles. I haven't had any of those problems. I changed my alternator and a broken sliding door. Oh, I just replaced a right front bearing. I've never replaced my timing belt. It's at 164000 miles now. At my kid's school, there are about 7 of us Odyssey owners. They are all over 10 years old. I plan on turning mine into a camper van when I want a smaller car. I wouldn't buy a new Odyssey today, because of all the bells and whistles added to make safer driving. Bings and dings when you cross a lane, cars in your blind spot, etc, I find to be bigger distractions than just learning to be a competent driver. I love your videos, though. I watch them all the time. I just haven't seen the same problems with Odysseys up here in Kansas. But hey, what do I know? I want to trade my Odyssey in for a Mini Cooper JCW convertible Hahaha. Thanks for all you do to teach us

This is the 4% of the time I disagree with Scotty. We had a 2006 Odyssey, which had a weaker transmission than the 2008 (which is when Honda switched to the Ridgeline transmission); bought it new and finally sold it last year with 227, 000 miles and still going strong. I changed the ATF at the first 15, 000 miles and every 30k thereafter. Never flushed the transmission (Honda recommends against that, but at 185k did the major 14-qt multi-cycle drain and fill which basically did the same thing. Perhaps the difference is that we bought it new and I babied it. I would hesistate to buy a used one but my co-worker has FOUR of that gen (2005-2011) Ody and his all work ok, with one (a 2006 Touring) at 355k. I can tell you my wife LOVED driving ours. We now have a 2019 Odyssey EXL and I am well aware of the foibles of the German ZF 9-speed trans in this one, and have already changed the 46/qt fluid at 15k. So far so good.

I had a 2003 Odyssey, bought new and sold after 230k miles - had quite a few problems over the time I kept it including transmission recall, shocks leaking, main seal leaking, water pump leak, rear doors new motors and switches, back rear side windows needed new motors 3 times, and more. After the transmission recall, Honda plugged up the filler plug with a permanent bolt, and I had to find another way to fill up the ATF after draining, thats not good engineering. AC had continuous issues, not to mention front engine mount going out 4 times. It was quite an ordeal to change the cabin air filter. There is still more than what I stated here. Scotty is right ON.

Since i got my 2005 chrysler minivan i've became a mechanic. I chaged the radiator, both shock assembly, multiple link kits and tie rods, the control arms, all 4 brakes, fixed the airbags light, changed the transmission fluid, the sway bar bushings, alternator and battery, the muffler, i did body repair and now it seems like my bearing assembly needs to be replaced. a true money pit. at least i runs fine and starts every day, get me to work 7 days a week. I really don't recommend it unless you are willing to do your own repairs.

I love my 2014 odyssey with 460k kms that's never givin me any proplems ever Not even the tranny. Not only that but its a auto parts delivery van. It holds more than any other mini except the sienna. Your claims are based upon what, 10 out of a billion built. Good job. Here's my only hidden secret. I've only ever ran amsoil fluids so take that for what its worth. My engine runs the same as it did from the day I bought it new.

I have a 1995 Plymouth Voyager that is powerful and a dream to drive. Love it Had it for two years. Paid 700 for it. Have replaced all brakes and rotors, windshield transmission, both motor mounts and tie rods and am in the process of painting it as the paint on these sucked. Doing the work myself (Im a 63 year old woman) is the only way it makes sense to put money in it, but its been very dependable

Id own a Sienna right now if they had a hybrid version. Ive owned two Odysseys, both purchased brand new, a 2001 EXL and a 2006 Touring. got over 200k miles, trouble free. however, the recent reports of Odyssey nightmares, instead of the 2019 Odyssey Elite, I got my wife a new 2018 Toyota Highlander Limited Hybrid Platinum and having it 1 year, weve had 25k dependable miles averaging 30mpg

Man, that's disappointing to hear. The Odyssey that my family has is great. The v6 has plenty of power to move it down the road. Even my car friends who hate minivans begrudgingly admit that it has pickup. On top of that the the ride quality is excellent. Our Odyssey is an 05 with +140k miles. I've got no complaints about it.
