I don't know where I'd fall on that pride chart, probably pretty low. I don't know I've never quite understood Nationalism, maybe because it's so often wielded as a weapon. I mean the ideas and ideals that are exemplified in the declaration of independence and the constitution and its amendments bring tears to my eyes they are so beautiful, but when I look at the execution and the reality of what America is and weigh what we've done on the international stage, I can't say it fills me with much pride. I mean we did 'save the day' in both World Wars, but our actions following WWI set the stage for Hitler's rise in WWII, where we might as well have committed a false flag attack (because our Military/Gov't was aware of the attack coming and let it happen) on Pearl Harbor to goad the people into accepting our entry into the war. And all the stuff we've been doing in the middle east and south/central America, not to mention our terrible history of systematic oppression of our own non-white citizens. I don't really see how I could puff my chest out at being, rah-rah, proud of America when I look at the totality of it. But that doesn't mean I don't love her. I just think she needs to take step one, admission that she has a problem so that we can start guiding her out of this darkness before it's too late.

As a transguy I feel conflicted. I personally have not transitioned at all yet so if there were to be a movie made of MY story then casting a cis woman would make the most sense if there weren't any pre-transistion trans actors cause then people see the struggle of not looking like a man to others. I've seen people say that you should cast cis men and give them make up to make them look feminine and that's frankly worse in my opinion, cause then you see someone who looks like a man and thing 'yes of course he's a guy', while if it's a woman playing a man people will be more sceptical and really dig into that underlying transphobia of Well if you don't LOOK like a man then you AREN'T a man. There isn't really a best case scenario though, but to me I think I'll be fine with it if they really push to make it clear that it's a film about a man and that he was trans and that scarlet is playing a male character and not a woman. So the long and short of it is that I don't mind scarlet playing him, what I mind is everyone saying she's playing a WOMAN. If scarlet makes sure to correct people in interviews and makes sure people know she is playing a man, then I think it might be okay. But her response makes me very worried that that won't be the case, and i'm honestly really mad at her for that response.

I am super late to the party (sorry about that. But in response to ScarJo and specifically about the character being pre-transition and thus still biologically female, there is a multitude of pre-transition transgender actors. For example, I am one. There is no need to cast a cis-gender woman for a pre-transition trans male part when there are pre-transition trans male actors. My biggest issue with this is the fact that transgender actors already have a tough time being considered for roles. Especially pre-transition, you arent taken seriously to play the vid-ended roles unless its stage. And even then, its difficult. so, taking the marginalized roles that should be specifically for those actors is kind of a slap in the face. How can someone else play those parts, someone who already has a name for themselves? ScarJo doesnt need this part, she doesnt need this movie. But I can name some transgender actors who do. Its a matter of choosing the same star actors time and time again even if they shouldnt have the part because of whitewashing, erasure, etc. Its about ignoring the community and the talent within it. Although, that is just a huge problem in Hollywood in general. Im tired of seeing the same three faces and leads in movies. Thats why I watch YouTube over anything now.

I am Polish, born and raised, living on the UK soil for the past 3 years so I can get a better education. There is one critical thing you forgot to mention with covering polish controversy. The ruling Law and Justice Party have already changed the way that people can vote in local elections. The whole system is changed that it is not the majority that counts but something called proportional representation. They also reduced the ammount of times rulling local representatives can run for office, and stricken the law around casting the vote through mail basically making it impossible for some people, mostly partially disabled to vote at all. There is also a rule to call for 2 separate election comitees- one to conduct actual voting process and different one to count the votes. With that many changes nearing the local elections it is debatable wheather or not those elections are going to be thruthful and lawful and not as it happens on the east side of Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Bellarus, Hungary) the rulling party will count the votes as they please as long as they win. It is the obvious power grab and the rulling party does not hide it at all, quoting the hear of the party mr. Jaroslaw Kaczynski: Wladzy raz zdobytej nie oddamy (We will not give away the power once taken)

So, Scarlett Johansson had to withdrawal from a movie about a transgender because she is not transgender and that would be cultural appropriation. Under those guidelines, she should withdraw from the Marvel universe as Natasha Romanova because she is not Russian. She should not have been in Girl with a Pearl Earring because she is not from Holland. She should not have been cast in She because she is not a robot, and my gosh, she was cast in Sing and she is not even close to a cartoon. Wow, in looking around I noticed that Marlon Brando was cast as an Italian in Godfather. Peter Sellers was cast as a Russian in Dr Strangelove. Brad Pitt was cast as a German in Seven Years in Tibet. Its a conspiracy. Hollywood keeps hiring actors to act like someone else. And it is not limited to Hollywood, Japanese have culturally appropriated American movies when they use Japanese actors to act in Only You, What Women Want and My Best Friends Wedding. And Bollywood has done it also with Kucch To Hai (I know what you did last summer) and more. All over the world there are the actors acting like someone else in a different culture. It is a cultural appropriation conspiracy.

People weren't mad when Samuel Jackson took the role of Nick Fury (which if I recall my history class: he was a white dude in the comics) I don't see why we have to taint the pleasure of movies with this social disdain to every minor jab ones stance or ideas takes through these actions. I think if we acuse her AFTER the movie is out, of a lack of portraying properly the character and the story (maybe, who knows, gotta wait)but for now it's unfair to say hey you Yes you person that has to pretend your someone your not as part of your job, you can't do this because your not who your portraying it's a pretty dumb thing to say I think, it rather destroys the point that old stories can be breathed with new life and a different angle, besides correct me if I'm wrong but the actors job is be something their not. All things considered its pretty simple I'd say, she's a talented person striving to do her job, all we can do is comend the effort and bravery it takes to stand up to those complex stories and in front of so many people. FYI SORRY IM BAD AT TYPING (and spelling too ) to any one who read it: I'm glad you did thanks.

I'm honestly surprised by the director choosing to do another film with ScarJo at all, given Ghost in the Shell was a huge disappointment. Regardless of the whitewashing scandal, it was doomed from the start in that no one who liked the original gave a shit about it, and everyone else went to see a weird sci-fi movie. They tried banking on her star power alone and it wasn't enough to get the bad taste of yet another garbage anime adapted movie out of everyone's mouth. As for the non-anime fan crowd, G. I. T. S. was nearly identical to Lucy, which is nearly like a Black Widow standalone movie. After a string of nearly identical films featuring the same goddamn actress people are pretty much jumping off the ScarJo train anyway. Now add in the actual controversy elements and that's just another group of people not spending any money seeing those movies. So now it's once again trying to ride on how dedicated ScarJo fans are and if the movie is interesting to get a general audience on board, and from the comments on this video alone that doesn't sound promising. Sounds like another flop to me.

Re: ScarJo--actors act. That's their actual job that they get paid to do. It's one thing to get upset when a white woman is cast to portray an (ostensibly--I see both sides of that argument and tend to agree that Kusanagi isn't white) Japanese character and quite another when a woman is cast to portray a man who was born a woman. You cannot properly tell the story of a transgender individual by casting a man and putting him in drag for half the film and casting Laverne Cox doesn't work for a biographical film about a non-black individual. I'm all for justice and all for treating all human beings equally--and with the respect due them as human beings. Yes We need to do that Absolutely But this ridiculous practice of how dare anyone do or say anything that someone might possibly take offense to, or else has GOT to stop. There is no natural human right to not be offended and people need to stop taking offense at every little thing, for the love of.
