Honestly, after hearing that story and so many others like it, I don't understand why anyone would dare connect their real identity with their online presence outside of strictly professional reasons. The cons far outweigh any possible benefits. I feel kind of lucky actually, because even though I'm in my late-teens and pretty much all of my peers use it (often with their real identities too, the reason why I never did was because social media was never my cup of tea (didn't hate it, just thought it was boring. But now, I'm seeing just how valuable having that blank slate online is. At the very least, it's been worth every awkward wait, you don't have a [insert website/app here] conversation I've ever had. Even when I did have one, it was under an anonymous name, and only given out to a handful of trustworthy friends. But I feel kind of bad for people who got started with it because it's ubiquitous, new, & exciting to be able to connect with people like that, and now have a permanent recorded history following them everywhere they go. It's like somewhere along the way we forgot one of the most important rules of internet safety: DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR INFORMATION TO STRANGERS. But now it's commonplace to do so.

So, I have a great question; If the biggest concern with the Trump-Ukraine call is Trump attempting to utilize the Ukrainian government to do things that would be beneficial for him, but detrimental for his competition, when does just being a better person than your opponent become illegal? Like, the way I see it, Trump was attempting to reverse a decision made by Joe Biden, that seemed to be extortive towards the Ukrainian government and an overall attempt to hide corruption, and it just so happens to be him it is concerned with. Not to mention, it could be assumed that if Trump didn't explicitly say Ukraine could continue to investigate the matter, Ukraine may have assumed that the current US government would find it disagreeable if they were to continue said investigation. Frankly, if investigating Joe Biden's son for corruption is in any way a detriment to Biden, that's not an overreach of judicial power, that's admission that Joe Biden has issues that make him unfit to be president. That is, beyond the obvious desire for children.

Look, I consider myself as what others would consider a leftie, but I'm so done with cancel culture as it is now. I'm a teacher and as such I believe in growth. Growth is the product of my job, without growth, what I do wouldn't matter. In cancel culture as it is now, by digging something up that somebody said years ago and using that against him/her we are constantly telling people that growth and change of hearth don't matter. I studied Art and Education and my last paper was about art and identity. One of the biggest takeaways from that paper was that identity development is a proces that goes on your entire life. It's unfair. I'm not saying there are nog people who deserve to be cancelled, but sometimes we tend to judge people by their worst point in their life. Sometimes that's deserved, but sometimes people forget to look at the people how they are now.

The fact that the reporter for the Des Moines Register himself had posted racist tweets in HIS past just goes to prove that the decision to even BOTHER to look into Carson King's past tweets wasn't done out of some moral high ground urgency to do the right thing. I love how they made it sound like it was a hard decision whether or not to post that part in their article. To anyone with an ounce of decency, it wouldn't have been a hard decision at all. Doing that much digging at all just shows how depraved this current culture has become. It was SEVEN YEARS AGO, and he was SIXTEEN. He was donating ALL of the money besides the cost of a case of beer to sick children, and someone who himself was a racist youth decided to try to ruin that. WHY?

To be brutally honest, the fact that the guy is asking for money I think the tweets should be public. The man may not be a racist, he may have matured since the age of 16. However, anyone donating to his cause should be aware of what was said, many people will still continue to donate, others (having received this information) may reconsider turning over their funds. I dont think they were trying to cancel him, as he stated it was his idea to make it public too after talking with the journalists privately. But if Im donating money to someone I need to be fully aware of that persons views and character to determine if I align with them enough to give them my money for their cause.

The editors and journalist knew what they were doing when publishing. What I dont understand is, why didnt the Obama Administration investigate Biden when he said on video that he held the billion dollar aid to Ukraine hostage on the condition they fire the man who was investigating his son? All I hear when AOC and Pelosi talk is ORANGE MAN BADgee. Biden comes right out and says he withheld a billion dollars until the Ukrane fired the prosecutor going after the company his son was receiving 50k a month in a position he knew zero about how to do. The hysterical media gave him so much cover while squealing ORANGE MAN BAD over and over, it's hard to know if they're intentionally lying about every single thing or if they're blithering idiots. or they think all of us are.

So wait let me understand this, other celebrities get extremely old tweets dug up about them, they are either racist or homphobic, but we will chastise them and cancel them. EVEN though they apologize, SHOW that they have changed from who they were back then, donate money, etc. BUT even though all that they are still attacked and treated horribly. However this 16 year old does it, shows he changed, apologizes and the world backs him. Quite the hypocrites humans can be.
