UHOH Shane Gillis Andrew Yang SNL Controversy, Lilly Singh's Mixed Reviews, & The GM Strike Ciara Nicole: I think this country is fully catering to people who are far too sensitive & can't just choose to avoid what they don't like. If you see a comedian making jokes you don't like. DON'T WATCH THEIR SPECIALS. Go find a comedian you do like and stop trying to ruin people's lives just because you can't handle something. There's tons of stuff that people say and do that I don't agree with. I just choose not to be a part of it. Obviously some things DO need a solution. I'm just not sure people digging up dirt on a new SNL cast member is really going to change the world. potentially just limiting what we're allowed to laugh at. We're all human we all say dumb shit sometimes. If they're not physically hurting someone or verbally attacking a specific person. don't take it so personally & move on with your own life.

There's a difference between treading the line on a sensitive topic to take risks vs. just using an hour-long string of racial slurs and then hiding behind a half-assed 'I was trying to be funny' claim. Comedians who are actually funny--and audiences who'd be watching--know the difference. As a business SNL has every right to decide who they hire and how those people represent their brand both in and out of work. This is a direction they very validly chose to steer away from. I'm a big believer in 2nd chances and learning from past mistakes. To me the response to all this shows that SNL has learned from previous poor choices and wants to be better, whereas Shane has learned nothing and is only interested in throwing a pity party for himself. Good riddance.

I know the history behind European white is not great. And learning about what my people and other around the world went through because the greed of white European, at the time, make it worst. However, I never like to remind every white people of how privilege they are or how they end up where they are because they are white. Maybe there is fact to it but I could of care less. It make people uncomfortable because you are blaming them for the sin of their fathers and you couldn't get anywhere with that. Instead I felt a story of gratefulness and how far you came is a great way to tell people that regardless of who you are and any labels attach to you, you still succeed and strong. Don't white shame anyone, you just make an enemy out of your friends.

I wonder if Phil and the RR team will do a deep dive into the Union thing. There's more to the story. Unions strongarmed autoworkers into the union. You literally couldn't get hired at GM or other manufacturers without being a member of the UAW, as of 10 years ago. They don't give members the option to continue working during a strike. The union in my opinion is out to line their own pockets, not for the betterment of the members any more. There was a reason for it, when it was founded, but I think the union is part of the problem now. Top tier members of the UAW are getting total compensation in excess of 150K, and they continue to pull paychecks during these strikes. There's more to the story than just Unions are good.

Lilly Sing she so funny, cute, and beautiful. Though I love her I can see how the side that didn't like her stuff or parts much point of view hopefully with time she win them over and calm down on stuff they didn't like. Like I said I love her, but yeah she did a lot of showing and bring up those things on episode one. Like Phile said with time people who don't know her can see the whole personality of her. Think she venting people that have treated her negatively for one or many things. Some videos that gotten people upset it details innthe way she said it so people that don't know her having gaps on what she saying.

On the Shane Gillis thing. Comedians take a lot of shots and miss a lot. Intent and context are the only thing a that matter. If not then words have no meaning at all and were just making a bunch of noises with our face. Its hard for me to listen to all Ive listed to of this Shane fella and think he is actually racist. I think all comedy comes from the same place. Good or bad. Thats a place of trying to get a laugh. Every podcaster I listen to would be fired from a corporate job week one in this climate and I listen to a lot of pods bruh.

Snl is a great place for comedians to grow and explore. Can people learn and change for the better after making a mistake? of course but when you defend yourself by saying that you take risk. That's just a scapegoat. Also you can be funny without being offensive. If you are going to walk the line between good and bad in comedy, at least be creative and funny. Not just saying slurs to convey point. Don't make minority jokes and cross your fingers and hope that there are enough white people to laugh at it. Be funny

In regards to Shane, we need to bring up what Good Good Comedy said. On AND offstage. Meaning he carried these shock value jokes' into everyday life. No stand up, no podcast. He would just say these things. To me, it sounds like beliefs childishly masked by 'jokes'. If SNL didn't fire him, he surely would have caused a storm leading to multiple actors to speak up, leading to a much bigger storm than what's occurring now. I believe they did the right thing morally and financially.

I don't think judging SNL by its past is fair at all. For one thing no one was calling these things out and saying hey these are easy jokes and not funny, do better. And also SNL has been on the air for 40 odd years with hundreds of different actors and writers, the show has always been fluid and what one writer decides to write and one producer gives a green light to can't be compared to 2019 because its a different crew and completely different people.

I was honestly ok with the guy making edgy jokes. There is the idea that some things were once ok to make aren't anymore because we as a society have changed our views. I agree with that, to a point. There are just too many things that have to change now, Too high a punishment for saying them, and too many people who care way more than makes sense. If you find it tasteless, you're probably not going to come across it organically. Live and let live
