People should not be surprised that the police officer was found guilty. The cops that have been found not guilty for certain crimes almost always have TONS of evidence clearly showing they were justified/innocent. With the shooting of Micheal Brown being the biggest example where all the evidence showed that Brown assaulted the police officer while he was in his vehicle after robbing a small business grabbed his gun while pummeling his face, struggled with the pistol and shot a round into the inside of the police cruiser before the Officer fought him off. Then after pushing himself out of the vehicle, Brown charged the Officer head down like a bull and was shot before he reached the officer. The whole hands up standing still story was told by his friend who helped him rob the store after he told that to the media nearby, that same friend then later admitted to the FBI that he made that part of the story up completely. That's why people are shocked because they're lied to, and to this very day news network that spread these lies never addressed it and as far as the American people are concerned it was the truth.

Please inform me if I'm understanding wrong, but I am a bit conflicted in the case of Amber Guyger. I can understand shock at the justice system working, but was/is that most of the shock? Is the justice system working the way that we want it to here? If the jury believed her alibi (and I'm not aware of any conflicting evidence, but I also have not dug into the case, I would think that would only be grounds for first degree manslaughter, not murder. I am interested if any shock was due to the charge she was found guilty on. There's no doubt she is guilty of killing that innocent man, but first degree murder is defined by premeditation and if her story stands as believable, I don't see it as premeditated. Was there history between the two involved? Was her apartment very close by or was she nowhere near it? Could her orientation of the building have been off due to where she parked? Personally, I would've liked to see her guilty of manslaughter. The fact that she was found guilty is enough for now, I suppose - I'll be interested in the sentencing though.

The problem with the questions and answers regarding the youtube demonetization is they are not coming from a computer science background. The people investigating what they perceive to be a bias policy don't understand how deep learning algorithm works. It's possible their policy isn't to demonetize any of those words and that there isn't some master list of flagged words and for that content to still be labeled as not advertiser friendly. What people may not understand is that these mechanisms don't just have a hood to look under to see what's going on like most code, not even the developers will understand how or why it does what it does. The algorithm is fed mountains of data to learn from and set loose on youtube. What the NerdCity investigation does show is however the algorithm was train biased it in a unexpected and undesirable way. It's also not clear how this can be avoided and still use such an algorithm.

Watching the actual video from the hong kong incident though, it's on NYT, that is not a protest, that's a murderous mob. Hunting policemen in the streets. 3 seconds later and that policeman on the ground would be slurry. 7-8 people all armed, steel hammer, metal pipes, heavy duty metal wrench plus Molotov thrown into the mix. Nah man, there can be no sympathy for these people, including the one that got shot, IF you still claim protesting the government. Only possible excuse for this behaviour is outsized tyrranny from the state so we are staging a coup and civil war. Wartime that kinda shit can happen, peacetime, no, you deserve to be taken down. I'm not there so can't say if the former is warranted, but this is definitely not a case of poor peaceful protester gets shot my evil hyper-violent cops.

Ultimately, China wants to control Hong Kong but it cannot because China relies on Hong Kong for international trade. China has 2 economies, internal and external. Their internal economy is the one they prop up and show the world, which is a MASSIVE LIE that the world somehow believes. The reality is that they're so inflated their currency amounts to nothing in international trade and the reason why any business operating within China, even foreign, cannot take their money outside of China. This is why most international businesses have their Chinese head quarters in Hong Kong. This is also the reason why Trump's tariffs are effectively hurting them. If China decided to use military force on Hong Kong, they'd literally shoot themselves in the foot. Ergo, HK is China's lifeline and also it's bane.

Nope, on the Amber Guyger. her mistake. Did not like the 'Castle' doctrine. It was a mistake, on her part. Doesn't mean it just goes away. Someone sitting in their house. shot & killed. I don't like what's going on in Hong Kong. They're afraid. But, it doesn't mean you destroy your city. imho. First shots fired, from the police. The protesters are asking for the response to be changed. Knowing what China MIGHT do, to change the response. I'm praying for Hong Kong. We haven't seen the worst. I understand the plight. I wish, as always, things could be handled better. on both sides. Wish they could keep it peaceful. Praying for the protesters.

I used to work for Lionbridge for a bit. Yeah their guidelines for the department section I was with wasn't entirely clear and a lot of it was rated based off of how others rated as well. Multiple people would rate the same thing and whatever the consensus of the most of the same answer was then the correct one deemed by the system. Even if it wasn't really the case. So like as people were removed or quit from the programs and then added new people the consensus could shift around. So it could be correct thinking that if there was a lot of people against it from there that were voting against it for demonetization then it could flag it potentially.

ok, so what if they combined two systems in order to teach the algorithm what to flag and not flag? items that are physically flagged by viewers, for example, are tallied and weighted. items flagged often are added to the demonetization list. that could be why things are sometimes flagged and sometimes not. if there's a popular video about lesbians, for example, it's going to get flagged more often. but if, say, the new popular video next week is about vaccines, vaccine related words will get flagged more by viewers, thus bumping lesbians out of the demonetization queue.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I fully believe that the cop's actions are 100% justified. If the person who was shot had beaten one cop with a pipe and turned his attention toward the cop who ended up shooting him, then IMO he absolutely had the right to defend himself. Though I don't claim to know anything about Hong Kong's laws. They may be very different from the laws in the US that I've been fortunate enough to have lived my entire life under (though, again, I know speaking positively about the US isn't gonna win me any internet popularity contests)
