Hey, I don't think the TL; DL news thing would be the best direction to go. Yes, it would be a good business move because people, especially young ones, are more inclined to get the shortest and most condensed version of the news, but that is excactly why it could lead to a probelmatic situation. People don't want to have to read a long paragraph or watch a very long video to get the news, they want to just get the sentence that says This is the guy at fault, blame that guy, and as we know, news aren't that simple, they are a complex web of actions and reaction that lead to something happening and that develop over time. Making this move may lead to misinformation being spread if either the news are condensed in a way it generalizes the complicated nature of the story, or if the tidbit comes out during the earlier development of the story. Promoting the main news show on snapchat would be fine, but opening a gateway for a bunch of lazy people to get a pretty reductionist version of the news would only be detrimental for everyone.

I say it all the time and I'll say it again. So long as you call yourselves said word, regardless of whatever spin you put on it, you have zero rights to get offended when someone else says the word or calls you that word. That being said nobody should be punished for mere words. Had there been activity behind it? Okay, I could see Harvard declining over fears of having that come onto their campus. At the same time I don't agree with him bring up Harvard's past. Slave owners were a part of the college because slavery was normal and accepted back then. You can't fault them for that. It's pretty scary how things can come back to bite you though. Run for president or congress and every single thing you did online, possible ever, gets picked through with a fine tooth comb. Shit you don't even remember yourself winds up getting found. Unless it's a recent past people shouldn't be judged by past behavior, not unless the behavior was incredibly violent or just violent in general. That warrants caution.

Obviously a bigoted teenager can mature and redeem them self as they grow. But a highly competitive university is well within its rights to selectively invite students into their academic community who meet higher standards to earn that special privilege. I'm glad to see the admissions board at Harvard prioritizes prospective students who have Not already caused a racist scandals for themselves. I hope that spot which the NRA activist lost goes to someone else with the same high grade point average and test scores, but who won't be bring their baggage of bigotry to their prestigious university. There's a very diverse student community in Cambridge who shouldn't have to deal with people who can flaunt such mean and prejudice attitudes about his peers. I never heard anyone I was friends with in middle or high school even come close to talking like that. Free speech of course, but we can't just gradually let it become more socially tolerated.

Being a teen isn't a excuse for being shitty towards others, you know what you're doing, you know why you're doing and the reason you do it, because you think there will be no consequences, because you're an invincible dumb teen who does that kind of shit for clout and being edgy and attention in social media like you could live from that He deserves to be kicked, he desserve that and it isn't just about him, it's about anyone who try to do the same shit of I was a teen, I must have your forgiveness Think abouts what you do, think about what you say, granted, most of the time it won't lead to anything but if it does, you'll realize why it's bad to go in a place full of strangers and interact pretending it's their duty to look out for youTldr: the internet is serious business, everything that makes it there is there forever, think with your head, not with your dick

I've a lot of thoughts about the Landis situation but I feel I should refrain until I read that article (if I do)As for Kyle, I don't and doubt that I will ever understand some of the humour that caucasian kids feel when using the n-word. RegardlessChange is change. You either believe in the change or you don't. There is not amount of years or time that can be used to calculate your social or academic worthiness. The heart/soul is the only thing that ought to be measured but we don't really have a mathematical equation or scientific tool for that. You simply forgive him or you don't. Harvard doesn't get put above Kyle because of how long it's been. Rapists aren't really less of a rapist if the time of their last rape is 4 decades as apposed to 1 week. ya ok im done

Those racist comments when shown in context change a lot. The first one makes it beyond clear that he was not stating his opinions on black people. He was shitposting. The second one was also very clearly not racist in the least, and was just edgelord speak given the way he called himself a pasty jew. These are not offensive comments that need to be apologized for. These are personal messages that had no right to be publically published. The sheer desperation in trying to discredit this young victim is astounding. His beliefs on guns being good is all you need to know that this boy is damaged and confused. His activism stands on it's own as awful. We don't need to pretend he's racist. This boy needs a proper education, keeping him from Harvard sounds counterproductive.

I agree with everything the kid said about how our society does handle forgiveness vs how it should. I have personal experience with learning and changing within a very short time period. I dont know him so i cant say for sure whether he is showing his change in his everyday behavior, but I believe him when he says hes at least trying to be different. Maybe he still shouldnt get into Harvard, but I think society should be a lot more forgiving than i unfortunately know it is. He didnt just lose his college admissions, this story will have ruined his life forever. I know there are people who will never accept his change and will harass him until the day he dies, if not make sure that day comes far too soon. Thats how these people are and its just not right.

I have mixed feelings on the Harvard Controversy story because while I do think his comments are inexcusable, I don't think Harvard should refuse him. If anything, people who make uneducated, racist, unethical, immoral, and prejudicial remarks NEED to be educated. Especially in a place where there are open and challenging dialogues and a variety of intelligent leaders and peers who will call BS out. I think a learning environment that is rich and diverse with endless opportunities is precisely what is needed for those who are ignorant and using inappropriate language and promoting racial bias etc. This move on Harvard's part just alienates a group that needs the educational atmosphere they provide.

my opinions are mixed with kyle kashuv- i agree that attitudes can change, however harvard was only treating him fairly. i believe this kind of action would be taken with any student who had past behavior exposed in this way. going through high school, my class, at least, was constantly reminded of this. we were always told that our actions as students could and would reflect upon us during college admissions, and to take care in choosing our actions with this in mind. and oh, ben shapiro. a standard nobody can meet? really? harvards standards may be high, but i think not using racial slurs would probably be one of the easiest parts of the harvard application process, no?
