The Taylor Swift You Need To Calm Down Backlash, Bella Thorne, Hong Kong Extradition, & Iran Dana Gray: Regarding Taylor Swift, are we really surprised that slate is going to hate on her? Don't you remember when they tried to say that Look What You Made Me Do was racist? That entire victimhood community makes a point of attacking people like Taylor Swift, who show that minority groups have massive mainstream support, because if their community has mainstream support, then the narrative of being victims that are constantly under threat of death is shown to be so much BS. Regarding Iran, if we have to go to war (something I don't support if it can be avoided, I want our military to be brutal to the extreme. I think one of the big issues we have had in the past is that we try to be Superman: We think we're so powerful that we can afford to hold back and not hurt them to bad. But this would be war, and if you're going to go to war, you should totally wreck your foe. We should hit them so hard and thoroughly that for the next century, when other countries think of fighting us, they will say, Dude Are you crazy? Didn't you see what they did to Iran? You know. How they used to see us after we dropped the nukes on Japan.

As an Iranian-American (born and raised in the U. S) I wanted to make a quick comment: For those supporting a war with Iran, really think about what youre saying. Look at it from a humanitarian/ethical perspective. Im visiting Iran currently for a month and looking around, everyone is suffering. There are people starving, dying of lack of proper medicine, etc. because of the sanctions put on Iran by the United States. I have family here and Ive seen them suffer. I have a 14-year-old-cousin who dreams of coming to America to be a dentist. She loves listening to Taylor Swift and dancing. She plays piano and obsessed over the Iranian football team. Her favourite colour is purple. Think of this girl when youre supporting a war with a country filled with people who LOVE America and American people. The Iranian government has, for decades, gone against the peoples mentality. The GOVERNMENT doesnt like America. But average, everyday people adore Americans and Europeans. We dont want a war. No one should want to go to war and kill people. Its absurd. #nowarwithIran

At this point with Iran, I regard them as having earned military intervention. However, the human cost of such a thing is certainly not worth the benefits, so I understand the reasoning for a more diplomatic approach to the situation. And it is by this merit, that I believe our current. administration (if you could call that sham such a thing) has failed us. Sanctions are almost always a safe bet, but withdrawing from a diplomatic accord for the sake of saving face when nuclear and military implications are on the table, is both incredibly irresponsible and ineffective. The U. S. needs to rejoin the accord, and begin de-escalation. Obviously Iran won't, but there comes a point where indulging a belligerent can be far more beneficial than stooping to their level. This, is most certainly that point.

I actually agree that Taylor is queer baiting. Her political stuff doesnt feel genuine at all. Shes extremely calculating and knows how to act to get her message across. Remember when she pulled her music off Spotify because she didnt earn enough? Now shes all generous with her money and donating it? Why? Because before she wanted to portray this strong career type woman. Now she wants to be a political activist woman. Why cant she just stick to writing better music. The song sounds exactly like all her other latest songs. It feels like Ive heard it a million times but Ive only heard it once. Its actually kinda creepy how it sounds just like all of her songs since reputation. Yes I used to like Taylor but this is just too safe.

Honestly, Im probably late on this but I 100% agree that Taylor was baiting and cashing in on the LGBT community. Its a terrible song both production wise and lyrically. Its great she wants to support GLAAD and LGBT people, but she could have done it in a more creative and less-trash way. The song is terrible. The music video is terrible. Everything is a cliche and just plays on common stereotypes of gay people and only features gay icons of a particular look or with certain characteristics. Shes just cashing in on the pink dollar to get attention. In five years I hardly think anyone will be singing the song as an LGBT anthem in the same way they sing Born this Way or Raise Your Glass.

With regard to the whole Iran thing - here's what's happening. 45 realizes he can't de-escalate because he wants a war - that's probably the lynch pin thinking that he believes is going to be able to help him stay in office and avoid those pesky Mueller probe charges. Also, most people, (Republicans usually) believe that you aren't allowed to vote out whatever President is in Office if a war breaks out (Makes Zero sense to me - but, I held an hour long debate with a former friend about this - just before I pretty much ended our friendship)So, yeah - that's why he's been insulting people more than usual ever since he got in

Havent read the article, but when I watched the video, all I could think about was how pandering it felt. But Taylor Swift has always come off as disingenuous to me, Katy Perry too, so it could be my bias. As a gay, Ill take the positive messaging where I can get it, but it doesnt hurt to do a little reflection and think about the timing, and how shes releasing this song during pride month when being pro LGBT is popular and benefits your public image as opposed to hurt it. Yes people grow and change, like how TS wasnt pro feminism her whole career, but idk. Please be nice to me lol its just my dumbass opinion

The U. S. social structure is decaying and eating itself while we struggle to make any improvements and evolve. We're playing identity politics and participating in the oppression Olympics going nowhere. Taylor Swift not being the right kind of gay straight gay is more important than nuclear warfare. Social media giants monopolize themselves and create a strangehold on the market. Massive censorship hurting really only ourselves. China going after Hongkong. If U. S. war with Iran pulls us out our own asses it maybe what we inch towards. Spooky times this country isnt ready for.

The government is meant to represent the people. This desire to hear from the people is a good move from the Hong Kong Government. It is also good that China, at least on its face, is allowing it to occur on its own. However, I am sick of protesters winning and then pushing for more. This actually hurts reform movements by making it seem like we will never be satisfied. This is a good victory. I don't have enough information to call for the bill being pulled, but if the People of Hong Kong do not want it, then the Hong Kong Parliament cannot pass the law.

Genuinely, i dont think the article was far off. I can agree that it was nice and all for taylor to advocate for glaad and what not, but i do believe it did have to do with gay money and queer baiting and not 100% good intentions. You cant say she wasnt trying to benefit herself by making a music video, attempting to be an ally, during pride month. It was also strange coming from her. I dont know too much about her and her history with being an ally though this is just my input
