Why People Are Freaking Out On Demi Lovato, Amber Guyger Hug Debate, Todd Phillips, & More John A.: I have always liked Carlin, he was an AMAZING person all around, and while I can understand what Carlin was trying to say in that clip about punching down it is also a VERY subjective concept, it is also a problem to start, if you consider someone down from you aren't you already looking at someone as less? And most saying that are only looking at the punching down as their own beliefs and feelings on something. In that very clip while he was talking about punching down he also made a very clear statement that while he didn't think that other comedian should punch down that they SHOULD BE ALLOWED to say what they want. Carlin's career was almost fully done by saying things he KNEW were seen as taboo and would offend specific others, he was outspoken about people being hypocrites about beliefs and called out anti/pseudo-science in religion, politics, and individuals own thinking, things that would also be considered punching down to some and just offensive to many others. And while he might personally find specific groups down he was known for making fun of Jews (religiously) even though he was not religious, something that many would consider punching down since they are a religious minority in society. He talks about trying to not punch down but also was very clear about the freedom to say whatever you wanted despite what someone else felt about it. As a specific point to this, it is almost everywhere seen as fine to make fun of or demonize Caucasian people because many think they are the majority. but that isn't the truth at all. If you look at the global statistics on race you would see that Asian (combined Southern and Eastern) are around 3 Time larger a population, just the Population of Asians in China alone are about 1. 5x the number of Caucasians world wide. Yet with this drastic majority in population it is seen as punching down if someone makes fun of someone Asian in a joke, how is this if the population rate is easily not in that favor? This is the exact problem though, what is seen as punching down is typically only worried about by those who are offended by something personally or are taking part if offense culture in part for someone else. I personally find it disturbing that people can't deal with comedy of any sort, it is not only a matter of free speech but also a bastion that is one of the last places where we can openly talk about some things, even though there SHOULD ALWAYS be somewhere we can discuss EVERYTHING but people are so offended these days that we can't even have scientific discussion about some topics without someone getting there feelings hurt. Comedy is also a mirror that allows you a way to look at yourself and your own actions, if you don't like someone joking about something then maybe you should be looking at yourself to see why that is, sure maybe they are just being an asshole, but maybe there is a place where those jokes comes from, if you don't like the stereotypes then don't live them, and if you aren't living them then why are you personally offended by something that doesn't pertain you? How many comics (that aren't Caucasian) have acts making fun of poor, uneducated, white rednecks? There are lots of them (and they are funny, but isn't that punching down to make fun of a group of people that is also disenfranchised and basically outcast from society because of the unfortunate situations of their birth? Yet no one seems to care because they don't take the time to see beyond their own prejudices and beliefs. Shouldn't I, as a white man, be outraged every time I see a non-white comedian making fun of white people who are also mistreated by society? But I'm not because its stereotypes that most don't live and while it is an unfortunate situation there are well I can look past being offended not only because its just a joke, but because I can reflect on myself that way. Certainly you shouldn't mistreat random strangers you meet, that isn't comedy, and you can not like what someone else says, but shutting something down just because you don't like it doesn't help anyone in any situation. If you don't like something then PROVE why it isn't correct, don't get upset and act like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum.

As a former IV heroin addict I do not think there would be anything more terrifying then going to a safe house and going around a bunch of people knowing exactly what you are doing. It in no way would make it more comfortable for people to become addicts BUT it would save lives. Instead of dropping dead with needles in their arms in some dope house no one cares about them in. Heroin is different there is no stopping. Ive known people whove died ten times and went right back out. Somehow Ive been clean six years but this is a disease. A very deadly one. People dont get better first they get ten times sicker obviously our ways have done NOTHING. I garuntee any person mad at this comment can ask a friend, family member, or coworker and you know someone touched by addiction. Check out those death statistics compared to guns. Im just lucky enough to not be one. Open your mind before you close the only option to help start getting someones life in the right direction(Its everywhere but I could go on for months on this subject)

I don't know the full story in all details (and i'm assuming the vast majority of people watching this show don't either, but in the Amber Guyger case; If in fact she was convinced for whatever reason that she was in HER apartment; and from her perspective she saw a random unknown in her home; I mean, I am not saying that what she did is okay in any book, and that's why she was convicted; but context matters. ASSUMING that the way I understood it is actually how it happened; assuming there were no known plans to do what she did. then just a few 'racist' messages or tweets in the past isn't enough in my book to paint someone a bad or horrible person. I dare say that most anyone has said things in one point in their life that are horrible in nature. I think the brother showed amazing strength in giving her a hug; the fact the judge did it is weird, but that aside. 10 years of jailtime might not seem long, but considering the context of the situation, I think isn't abnormally short.

So - I understand wanting and availing the opportunity for a spiritual, religious experience. What I don't get is how she presented it, and how she dealt with the aftermath. .no one told Demi Lovato she may get flak for glamorizing Israel in what was essentially a PR opportunity for an oppressive regime? Israeli policymakers have literally said Palestinians should be killed because they are snakes and their offspring are baby snakes. Yeah, that sounds like a magical place. Also: .when you get backlash of this magnitude - especially with today's cancel culture - who the heck advises you to NOT apologize? Lovato needs someone to handle her PR better. Or just take responsibility for her account. Also: if this was a sincere apology, she could grow up and put this up in a more permanent fashion - like an IG post, maybe? This was so disappointing. Another example of celebrities not knowing how the heck to handle uncomfortable, difficult situations.

The EU story feels like a HUGE violation of everyone's rights. How does something that affects everyone internationally get to be decided by Europe alone? This feels especially intrusive if you take it in conjunction with the China/Hong Kong situation right now. It feels like all the sudden governments are going to have the ability to suppress anything they don't agree with and that's some dystopian sht. The injection sites are something that NEED to happen here. The US treats people who have addiction like they are less than human. Solutions like this with a focus on helping to rehabilitate people are so necessary. It's insane to me that the government is fully endorsing the idea that it's worth more to potentially keep a few people from trying a drug than to save lives. By blocking this solution we just completely brush off these people like their lives are less valuable and only people who have never touched a drug are worth saving.

Getting mad at Demi Lovato for making a spiritual pilgrimage trip to Israel because of the political tensions in Israel would be like getting mad at a Muslim celebrity for going to Saudi Arabia for Haaj despite political deterrents. Thousands of Jews, Christians (including Arab Christians. In fact Egyptian Coptics make pilgrimage every year during Easter, Bahai, and, yes, even Muslim tourists visit Israel every year for religious purposes. And people from each of these religions support either side of the conflict or have no interest in the political conflict in the area. I'm upset that she felt the need to apologize for making a journey to explore her spirituality and her religion - she has nothing to apologize for. People need to stop letting their politics dictate other people's actions.

In relation to Amber Guyger, I whole-heartedly believe that the murder of Botham John was a misunderstanding. It's a murder because she meant to shoot him, but I don't think she realized she was in the wrong room. After the murder, other residents were interviewed and many of them said they have accidentally went to the wrong room. After a 14 hour shift, after covering swat team members, and detaining 3 criminals. I think she would be on edge, and not focused on a lot. I know, personally, I don't focus on a lot of things after a 14 hour shift. And so we are all clear, I believe she should have been convicted of murder, I don't believe she should be protected by a stand-your-ground law, but I don't believe she would have done the same thing under different circumstances.

So. If countries are having beef with Facebook. They shouldn't try and force Facebook to keep track of all the different laws and definitions to every country. If they don't like having FREE speech then disallow Facebook. Show the world your true colors. You just aren't for freedom. Facebook can't be the worlds internet police. With Demi. She never should have to apologise for going to Israel. The fight over the Gaza strip isn't just on Israel. Especially considering that Israel freely allows people if all different religions and citizens of all kinds of countries to purchase land and practice their religions. While in Palestine it is punishable by death to sell to an Israeli. All to say, Demi is right. It was a spiritual experience not political.

I have Jewish ancestors too (my dad's mom was Jewish and they were forced to convert during WW2 in Italy, under the fascist regime. Does that make me lose sight of right and wrong? NO Israel is WRONG in how it treats local populations They are ruthless colonizers No amount of being Jewish can resolve that wrongdoing. PERIOD. Israel spends A LOT of money working on their image in the western world, they do a lot of PR (public relations is another term for propaganda btw, and they hide the dark things they do so they look like good guys. People need to know this and I'm happy Demi saw through that transaction. She was a tool for PR. Especially in times where they're about to take-on Iran, they HAVE to appear (focusing on the word APPEAR here) good.
