WOW Hero Stops Tragedy Caught On Video, PewDiePie Banned, Miley Cyrus Backlash, & Chile Protests farleycz: Ok, about the Parkrose story. You see, I had this teacher I really liked who tought us Czech (like your English teacher) and once she was describing this book one Czech author wrote in prison while being trotured. She stopped and with a tear in her eye she said: There was this sentence in the book that really got me. He wrote: They didn't even allow me to die. .and she sobbed. That sentence stayed with me since then and I always think about it when seeing these suicidal cases. Bit of cold honesty, is there really a difference? These kids suffer. They decide to end it. And only then we heroically stop them and say: Your life is worth living. what the hell we know? I'm happy people can save others like this, but what worries me is what comes next. If the kid stays in touch with the hero an makes a new friend that'll make his days worth living again, then it's amazing. But way too often you see suicidal people being saved by an authority and then being thrown into the same crap they suffered through before. So yes. I actually agree with Phil there. We care way too late. I'm here for you. is a sentence that should be said as a prevention of suicide, not as an afterthought.

On the Chile situation. I worked out that if the average monthly salary there is around 800 US dollars, and the cost of one subway trip is about 1. 50. that compared to bus and train fares in Ireland and the UK, we actually pay more to travel relative to how much we earn in this part of the world. I'm all for public protests for a better quality of life, I just think this is very interesting. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that, but it's worth thinking about these things and cost of living in general. Wealth distribution should be part of the Governments job, it should be illegal for an individual to have a personal wealth exceeding say 20 million us/euro/pound (they are almost all worth the same now anyway. Company and company assets, and details like that should be worked out, but if this was a system put in place globally, think of all the lives you could enrich, all the public projects you could build, society would progress so much faster and be better for everyone, and the lives of the rich wouldn't change that much- oh no, they might not be able to own more than 1 mansion and a private jet, woe is them.

Thanks for covering the Chilean protests Phil. As with many others, I'm both anxious but a bit happy that this is finally happening. Inequality and the cost of living was starting to creep even to the upper-middle class, with things like food prices, the real state market, etc. We had enough. We had too many years trying to solve these issues but then saw that the government backed down with the pressure of the most powerful economic powers. That's why so many people have joined the movement; it is the first time I've seen one that has gathered people from ALL social classes (even many rich young people, and many sectors that otherwise aren't united, like Santiago with the regions, medics with nurses, some sectors of the right and the left, and even different soccer fans. This is huge. And I'm sure many other countries will follow, because many of the issues here are repeated elsewhere (like in Lebanon. The thing is, we started the fire but we don't know when/how it will stop, and that's frightening

Ive been queer my whole life and Ive varied between bi, pan and gay and no matter where I was on the spectrum I was always told you just need to find the right guy. Its something that gay women hear constantly and its patronizing and dismissive of their experiences. And its often said by men who are angry at the queer women for not being interested in them. Sometimes these interactions can be scary or violent. Im not even a straight up lesbian and me and my girlfriend have had scary interactions like this. So of course queer people would be upset hearing that from someone who had been seen by some people as a queer role model/queer celebrity. Its harmful and that mentality does cause actual harm. If youre speaking particularly to women who joke about being gay/consider being gay just because men can be awful, and not because theyre you know, actually gay, specify that. Theres a difference.

I have some advice for those in the comments. don't offer your ear to friends that might be suicidal if you can't hold up to your word. I have been through mental system for 29 years and while a therapist is helpful; actual people in your life are way more helpful with suicidal thoughts. Don't trust the mental health depts. They treat you like a prisoner if you are admitted for suicidal thoughts. However more recently every single 1 of my friends and family all ignored me when I was upfront about my suicidal thoughts and blew me off. Then started telling me about their issues because in a slap to reality I am a therapist to these people and they never return the favor. So be genuine because all you do is push that person more to the edge and makes them never want to talk again. As for the suicide hotline. Its garbage. Do research on it.

Will preface with I am an American-citizen but also half Chilean by heritage, and my mother is actually there right now, in Santiago where my family lives. From what I have heard, its been a long time coming. What I can say, is this is what happens when the government takes advantage of the people and lines their pockets. This is what should happen in the other countries like the United States when the people are being worked over by their or own government. instead of turning on each other. As the saying goes, people shouldnt be afraid of the their government, governments should be afraid of their people. This is a prime of example of the people taking back that power and putting fear into the government.

I'm a cis bi woman and I think that Miley was speaking from her own experience, sharing what she used to think and what she doesn't think anymore. I do think what she said was in poor taste, and can definitely be used against the queer community by some to justify why we shouldn't be taken seriously or treated with respect. so I get why folks were upset, but I think she was just trying to share her experience and not necessarily speak for all women. unfortunately, it came off that way. I hope she uses this as a teachable moment.

On that Chile stuff, my geography teacher in high school actually went to a Chilean riot when Pinochet was in power. Hearing him talk about it was just wild: The protesters were trying to extinguish Pinochet's eternal flame and the police were trying to stop them. It was like a game, or I got a bunch of incredible shots of the riot, but one of the officers nailed me with a water cannon and it ruined my film, or We did actually have one death in the riot that day.

I am all for people protesting to get their goverment for a redress of their grievances but I do find the violence a bit disturbing. Wether in Hong Kong, Chile, U. S. or between the Palestinians and Israel it seems as if violence on all sides is the norm and not the exception anymore. Peaceful protests, though not as momentarily shocking as violent ones, tend to be a vehicle for real and lasting change. All violence ever does is breed more violence.

They make a law, you protest, break shit and loot local businesses that have absolutely NOTHING to with you getting from point A to B, because of law you didnt like, the government said ok my bad, and yet you continue because you NOW want to piggyback off the first protest, now the government sees you as criminals because you continue to break shit and now you're mad about that. Somebody please help me. I want to see the light. All joking aside I really do.
