As a Virginia resident, I fully support the Red Flag Law. It's not all about mass shootings either. There are people living with mental illness (including myself) and having suicidal ideations with a gun around statistically results in more people losing their lives to it. The argumwnt that if you want to die, you'll find a way sounds true on the surface, but just about every other means is either more survivable or requires a moment of logic or a longer time to set up which can give someone a moment to gain their bearings to pull out of the spiral long enough to reach out for help (or at least stop for the moment. Those just starting treatment or just going home after a hospital stay are in a very fragile mental state need the most protection. There's also people with untreated medical conditions, off their medication, undermedicated, wrongly medicated, or having adverse reactions who are more likely to lash out at others or harm themselves. They need protection from themselves too before they make a knee jerk decision that ruins the rest of their lives and the lives of others. There's also the fact that you can get your guns back if it's deemed safe to do so. The guns aren't destroyed. There is no real risk to gun owners and a reward of countless lives that can be saved. I think most of the people against the Red Flag Law have never sat down and reflected on the law and the implications. It's all a knee jerk reaction or people going by what other people told them it means. PS: I'm a former gun owner (due to my mental health, not a problem with gun ownership) from a family of hunters. While most of my family is very responsible, my dad has untreated mental health issues and (on top of suicidal ideations) has said on more than one occasion that if he was given 6 months to live, he has a short list of people that would have less than that. This is not an abstract thing for me; this something I've lived with and lived through.

Everyone here is so focused on the famous people. They don't see the freedoms being taken away from them right underneath their noses. Worse yet, they are willingly giving their freedoms away. Let me throw a hypothetical situation out there for everyone else who also loves the Philip DeFranco show. Let's say one of them the people who watch the show that isn't mentally stable, similar to the people who try to pull his kids, go to his house or his office. Let's say one of these people decides that they are mad. They decide to essentially SWAT Philip DeFranco and his family using these red flag laws. What do you think happens next? How many videos have been put up where he admits to having mental trouble? Admits to being horribly exhausted and fed up with a lot of things. As his fans we all know what he means but what would a judge say? Well with red flag laws, I can tell you what they would say. I would tell the officers to go to the house and remove all weapons at any means necessary. People have already died unjustly because of red flag laws. Sorry if some of this came out scrambled, I'm using talk to text. If need be, I will come back through and edit later.

Dressing as a black person in not automatically blackface. Degrading black people and making fun of them for their appearance in blackface. A white child dressing as Disney Princess Tiana is not cultural appropriation or blackface, it is admiration. Same thing when i dressed up as Captain America when i was little, skin color didn't matter because i loved super heroes in general. I never needed a person who looked like me to feel inspired by who they were, I really like Black Panther too, but super heroes were not off limits to me before there was a black hero being held up in modern day. (ignoring all the other black heroes from comic books that actually had movies) I've always enjoyed watching heroes be heroes because their character was amazing to see. The whole idea that people can only dress or act as a person from their own tribe or color is almost a mirrored reflection of some of the ugliest times in american history. Is Segregation now back in style?

On the Virginia gun bill, I am currently afraid that my grandfather is going to try to shoot up my house (very complicated story as to why. Family friends have gone up to my mother and said as much. He's incredibly unstable due to never doing any form of coping whatsoever after serving in Vietnam, and to top it off he's incredibly narcissistic and self-serving, so he feels that we wronged him and he ought to get back at us. My mom had to break into his house and steal his guns. We later learned she missed one. Were something like this law in place in my state, I'd feel much safer leaving my family in that house while I'm at college. If someone is in a mental state where they could reasonably be expected to commit a violent act, they should not have a weapon. You can't scapegoat all shootings on to mental health issues alone and then not take action to get weapons out of the hands of the mentally unwell. You cannot have it both ways, Republicans.

Here is a prediction about the future of this law in Virginia. News Person: Hey Officer why did you not take the guns away from the person who was declared a risk to themselves and those around them? You know, the one person you received a warrant to do so, right? Officer: I believe in the second amendment. I cannot take their guns away. News Person: Ok, so you care about rights, what about the rights of those they killed? Officer: .I am fine with people owning guns. That said if you are deemed a threat by existing laws. Weapons should be taken away till otherwise deemed by a judge. Now if you are reading this and think at no point should someone have their guns taken away. Keep in mind. There are pros and cons to this law, but the pros heavily outweigh the cons. Also consider how much needs to be done to get a warrant. The person is under suspicion of committing a crime, with supporting evidence to back this.

This is like people being outraged at Eminem for ''Darkness''. The guy makes a song that's anti-gun violence and uses hard truths in his music to make it impactful and make you think. Critics: OMG he is glorifying mass shootings. No you idiot, listen to his lyrics. He's describing fear, depression, mental health etc. and then flips it on the shooter. All that + a stop gun violence message at the end of his music video alongside a message against gun violence. Critics: OMG he is glorifying gun violence, I won't REALLY listen to the lyrics and just be outraged. Same with RDJ blackface outrage. He blacked a character that was so self-obsessed and lost track of reality. The movie made FUN of the character going to crazy lengths to portray a character. The movie made fun of him and the white actor was the butt of the joke. But the people that just want to be outraged just want to be outraged and don't look at the context.

I just feel like you cant win no matter what you do anymore, everyone is offended by everything. The world has become a everyone gets a trophy place. People can apologize for something they have done or admit a mistake, but people still pull out pitchforks and want to burn people at the stake. I think we should all respect each other, and stop demanding that everyone walk on eggshells for everyone else. We are unique, we are each different and wonderful, the more that our differences are magnified the more we are divided. We should be teaching and educating each other, not forcing others to go along with our opinions because we are offended by the things we cant get over. People need to get out of their own way, they are not becoming heard because they are offended, they are becoming smaller because they arent addressing what the real problem is.

Lets be clear the violence in charlottesville was NOT I repeat WAS NOT caused by a resident of Virginia he was from Ohio and the white supremacists that beat DeAndre Harris were also from other states Alabama, Georgia and Ohio. I am not saying we do not have our own idiots but most of the problems in charlottsville were outsiders coming in to stick there nose in our business. This caused one of our residents to be killed and many injured so next time you report on Virginia protests you cannot compare the two because one was us a peaceful and respectful protest by Virginians and the other was the idiots from other States sticking there immoral noses in our business and doing callus and immoral acts in the Virginia name that we do not stand by nor agree with or condone.

I think everything comes down to intent. If your intent is to mock black people, or asian people or whoever, then yes, you are racist and what you did is wrong. But if your intent is, like he says here, to bring attention to it and mock a character that would do that by playing that character as an actor yourself, then i think it's fine. I say the same argument for cultural appropriation, i think it is a wonderful thing for people to genuinely want to experience another peoples culture, or even adopt them into their own day to day lives, but someone that does so to mock or pock fun at said culture are wrong for doing so. Though it may be cliche to say this, especially given the topic, this issue is not, in fact, black and white.
