I spent a while in China teaching ESL at a university. The school was like a United States public university, but the government had an incredible amount of direct control. I found out that the bribes were super common in that province. One of my local friends said he couldn't apply for a position that had opened up at the University even though he was qualified. When pressed, he explained the bribes. He expected the bribe to be close to 2 years of the job's actual salary, which they would want up front. He said his and many other families save up for years while raising their children so the parents can help their child pay their first bribe. And the administrators were so brazen about it that one actually confirmed the amount with one of the expat teachers that had come over from the states like me. They were super casual about it to, just, Tell your friend it suchandsuchamount. Local friend was right, it was just about two years worth of his potential salary.

As far As Ellens situation goes I think she handled it well. The fact is, not everyone will be happy with anything. In the Era of cancel culture people sought to see her career end over things that happened within her corporation.
Heres the thing, companies are a conglomeration of hundreds of different personalities. You have that many people together, shit happens. Bad people get hired, bad people get fired, bad people get overlooked. It happens. Ellen did the right thing by bringing to light what happened in a manor that softened the blow of Ellen isnt perfect while also still stating that Ellen indeed, isnt perfect.

The Ellen issue reminds me of back in the day, when Rosie O'Donnell had an afternoon talk show and was known as the Queen of Nice because of how upbeat and positive her show was, and how kindly she treated her fans. And then she just sort of. went off the deep end very publicly on her own show. While Ellen's situation is one more of bad behavior being brought to light instead of bad behavior on display, both went from being considered the nicest people with an afternoon talk show, to relatively reviled. O'Donnell I don't think ever recovered from that. Ellen might.

In regards to Ellen, I always thought that while she asks for kindness she also has a cruel streak. That being said, she doesn't tend to use that to hurt people deliberately. She is however, fond of practical jokes and jumpscares. I wouldn't call a horror writer bad person in a way I wouldn't call Ellen a bad person. A thing I think influences the negative perception is that because she is good, funny, charitable when she does something we don't agree with it feels that much worse. Then people we expect that from don't seem as bad in comparison.

The way Ellen made it seem was that oh sometimes she gets impatient and maybe snaps at people but some of the stories that came out from her previous employees was stuff like not being allowed to look her in the eyes and extreme things like that and to me there's a difference between yelling at people sometimes because of stress or just normal human emotions and having really controlling and mean work environment

I've never understood why anyone even likes Ellen. even before the scandal every time I watched an interview from her show it was literally the most uncomfortable however-long of my life? Granted I didn't watch many specifically because of this discomfort but Ellen always felt very pushy in ways that the interviewees clearly didn't seem to enjoy or sign up for and I just don't get why she's so popular.

Isnt this administration doing the same thing as hong kong in regards to the press. They categories anyone they dont like as antifa after they naming anifa a threat. It's inappropriate for Ellen to addressed what happened in her monologue. Uh, did I fall into a different dimension where Ellen is best known as a comedian and her monologues are always dead serious?
