ABELISAUROIDEA. Abelisaur Dinosaurs. size comparison. paleoart You can get Man, Abelisaurids were really strange creatures. I notice that in evolution, as predatory dinosaurs get larger, their arms get smaller, and their heads get more massive. I guess it-s to help with balance. But the weird thing is that the skulls of abelisaurids weren-t very big compared to other great predatory dinosaurs, like Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, and T. rex. Which leads me to think that they were probably primarily scavengers. I could be wrong, but I personally think their skulls were not strong enough to help take down prey like sauropods, so they probably just payed more attention to baby dinosaurs.

This is incredible! before I watched this I didn't know what features distinguised abelisaurids from other dinosaur. families? clades? what the term again. anyways I didn't know how to distinguish them until now! it seems that a majority of these dinos were medium sized therapods, had incredibly short arms that were kept to the sides, and had short and compact heads

For a long time, I thought Carnotaurus was the largest abelisauroid recorded. I didn-t even know what pycnonemosaurus was and that it was larger! (Those estimates are estimates though so Carnotaurus could be larger idk this is prehistoric fossils we are talking about)
reply

I can't wait for Pycnonemosaurus to come on Path of Titans tomorrow as a official abelisaurid this guy is bigger then carnotaurus and here I thought carno was the largest one but nope apparently pycnonemosaurus is

The group of theropods whos members had tiny penguin arms before penguins even existed. but at least penguins can move their close to their body arms
you know what, these guys are land penguins

reply

You forget Rajasaurus, and Majungasaurus, those guy are Abelisauroidea too, and live in India and Madagasscar, along side Bruhatkhayosaurus, Isisaurus which act as their main prey
reply

Interesting, I had no idea the Abeliosaurs developed the reduced forelimbs so early in their evolution. Even the Coelurosaurs took awhile on that one.
reply

In no way am I saying that my knowledge is superior to you but Rajasaurs had a big horn on his head and that is why the name had been given to it.
reply

Fun fact: pycnonemosaurus first fossils were found in Brazil, in other words, we just found out why everyone is scared of Brazil so much.
reply

I don't believe majungasaurus is just medium sized. I litterly thoughted it was big. The size of carnotaurus and pycnemosaurus.

Nice abelisaurs in here can you do another video about abelisaurs if you do I'll watch it some I did not know about
reply

Nice and well designed size comparison. The only species that's missing is Kryptops. Other than that it's amazing -
reply

Im not too surprised Quilmesaurus isn't in it, since it's likely an invalid species, but no Xenotarsosaurus?
reply

And people made fun of tyrannosaurs for having small arms.
Abelisaurs completely forgot about arm day

reply

Abelisaurus never appears in this type of videos, it give the family the name and yet he doesn't show up
reply

Wait I thought Masiakasaurus was like a megalosaur or megaraptorid but it is actually an abelisaurid
reply

Haha I see the video was uploaded before the discovery of a new species of Abelisaur. Named Thanos
reply

imagine not being the apex predator of your area
this meme was made by tyrannosaur gang

reply

The smallest abelesauroid is in actual fact velocisaurus, and the largest is dryptosauroides
reply

Wait a minute if you Remove the pycnone from pycnonemosasaurus do you get a mosasaurus
reply

Do Ornithomimids, my favorite. Most of them are like ostriches, and I like ostriches.

Could you do an update on this video from what we know now and if there's any difference?
