How Singapore Became the World-s Hub

How Singapore Became the World-s Hub Singapore should just do an efficiency survey every few years to establish which of their jobs isn-t being fulfilled adequately so they don-t have to make excuses to exist. Or have an internal vote every year, where only party members can be voted for, but whomever won before cannot run again. Or have just heads of the different divisions up for vote, where people vote for individual heads of each statutory boards separately and then vote which board should run the board every year, where you can only vote for boards that haven-t won in 4 years, unless the current leading board is failing and the head has swapped. Heck, call it a form of parliament, and you can still have your -royal family- that serves an advisory or final seal sort of role that can still do the surveys if they feel like it

I think the biggest thing that you didn't touch on, is that in most countries, government companies or public housing is a byword for inefficiency, over bureaucracy, and overall being a bit trash.
In Singapore it's the complete opposite.
Here if you refer to a government company, they're trustworthy, efficient, safe, and almost always a better option than a private company.
And so many people live in the hdbs, not only because they're cheap, but because they're really high quality, and great places to live, not like public housing in most countries where the only reason you would live there is because you don't have enough money to afford a real place.

It makes me wonder what makes this country resilient to outside influences. Singapore officials are not corrupted and influenced? Why are they holding on tight and working for the best interest of their own country? Take a look at Djibouti, a country ruined by outside countries interests in the trading routes. Take a look at Venezuela which has by far the most petrol in the world. Take a look in any African country that has plenty of natural resources. Naturally, because of it's geographical position and it's trading route value, Singapore should have been heavily squashed under the biggest united nations countries foot.

This is great summary Singapore's growth to success. But one section would mislead that -crack down on political dissidents- was a way to gain economic success. If you read the news article, was -Barisan Sosialis, a Maoist-oriented party- hunger strike and jailing communists.
In fact, was that Singapore had prevented turning to central planning, communism which was highly popular that time (China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma etc, and focus on democracy, market economy and welcoming Western investors that help made it successful. Which we now know that China & Vietnam trying similar playbook, excluding the democracy.

For what I know why there so many Chinese people on that island because of the Japanese army were after them. And soo after a war Our First Prime Minister politely ask them to come back to our land so we can live together. But the people says No to the merge. And I thought why they don't wanna merge with us. So i made a theory that the Singaporean people predicted something big will happen to them. And so 1964 tragedy happen. What cause? Find it. Then made your own conclusion.

Much is placed on the economics but not much on the laws in general. Singapore has some of the strictest, uncompromising, and most enforceable laws. There is zero tolerance for corruption and government cracks down on antisocial behavior. Vandalizing property results in caning. Such a thing would not exist in a democratic liberal government where it treats everything like a victim but could be argued to be enforced only or likely by a father figure autocrat.

Question is, where did the govt of Singapore get the money to build the country, especially build the HDB houses?
I am an aspiring politician and have always thought building of residential properties should be the main pre-occupation of government. But the cost of construction and the tax revenues I see in my country versus the population and the need for houses, I don't have a solution yet on how to bridge the gap.

-State capitalism: a political system in which the state has control of production and the use of capital-. Hmmm, what could it be that this description reminds me of?
Good job to whoever's making up these political system definitions. Do everything within your hand to not use the no-no words.

As a Malaysian, I envy Singapore because they achieved so much with so little. One can be said about Malaysia, who were spoiled with an abundance of resources and land, but governed by a corrupt and inept government. Lee Kuan Yew's failed dream turned out to be the stepping stone to success.
reply

Lmao, gotta love that everyone overseas were saying that Singapore was expelled from the land of Malaysia, when its Singapore and LKY specifically who requested to CUT THEIR TIE with Malaysia because they want to have their own country.
Smh, manipulation thru different perspectives.

Well done, I never knew about the info on the British Withdrawal being economically significant. You also presented the other reasons for the dire straits Singapore was in (Race Riots + Insufficient Housing + Malaysian Expulsion + British Withdrawal all around the same time)
reply

LKY is one of the greatest leaders of the past century. He was an incredibly intelligent and effective leader who addressed the immediate and upcoming future challenges to the country. Singapore should be the prime example of how most countries should be managed imo
reply

As a Malaysian neighbor, I'm so proud but envy and jealous at the same time. Singapore has achieved so much more with less recourses and opportunities. Proves that having a resilient and progressive government is the key to success than anything else.

Public systems are a lot easier to implement when you have less than 6M citizens to care for in a small regional area. This is not an apt comparison across the board. It is less than half the size of the Houston Metro area. with 2M less people.

We the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality, so as to achieve happiness, prosperity, and progress for our nation.

This is what happens when leaders value human life and realize that the needs of the CITIZENS comes first, which includes water, food, housing, energy, finance, freedom etc. And NOT dictator-, communist-, socialist- or globalist agendas.

How is possible this talk abiut ckimate change continues? People said that the Global Warming would destroy the planet 20 years ago and continue with the 0. 7% of the planet atmosphere will destroy us before 2030

Singapore is the biggest inspiration for my worldview. Legendary leader Lee Kuan Yew was. Strong economy earned by hardworking people and good governance, that's my ideal. Learnt a lot from this video!

Great content, highly educational. This is meant as constructive criticism; the narrators speech impediment is distracting to the point of, well you can-t absorb the fantastic information and video.

As long as PAP does what it says it is going to do Singaporeans are going to be ok with them rulling.
If PAP wasn't that popular they would have been overthrown either democratically or violently

The economic miracle that is Singapore.
Fun fact. Singapore sent a delegation to Cambodia in the late 1960s because it wanted to learn how to develop a successful nation.

How it still is?
Thailand not making a canal. Thats how.
Singapore is basically contributing to climate change too. Well, in a lot more ways too.

reply

As a Malaysian myself, I feel that Singapore would suffer like Sabah and Sarawak if LKY didn-t make the ultimate sacrifice to leave Malaysia in 1965

Your segue at 10: 18 makes no sense. You're basically saying that Singapore's foreign policy created vulnerabilities to climate change.
