I'm a massive Julius Caesar fanboy. Him and Hannibal Barca were who I've learned about and still to this day rant and rave about. But over the last few years as I learn more and more about the Mongols, Subutai in particular its hard not to hold this man in high esteem. Is he the greatest General? Idk, a mere insignificant mortal like myself doesn't have the right nor the knowledge to judge this immortal legend

In ancient Mongolian language The word Dog has same meaning as friend due to the fact that in Nomadic culture dog is guardian of the sheep and the family. So actual nicknames of Genghis Khan's generals was Dear friends of Khan.
P. S even now Dog and friend in Mongolian language has similar spelling Nohod-dogs Nuhud-Friends and sounds same but lost the true meaning.

I wonder how history of world would of been if they did continue to invade. Note this was under Subutai a gifted general with a plan, even if they didn't get far, they would of still have occupied eastern Europe. Back up could of been summoned etc. If they were successful, ENgland would of been proven hard cus they have the ocean.

Subatei didnt prefer to leave a gap open for retreat that was mongol tactics on whole as that's what they learned hunting wild animals that a cornered animal especially a man will fight to the death but given the chance to escape anyone takes that chance. Giving a a general more credit then he deserves?

The Europeans must have felt like they did when the Seljuk turks first appeared or how the Goths felt when they first encountered the Huns. You would think Europe would have already found a way to effectively combat Steppe riders from Asia by this point in history lol

One wrong thing here: Europe was kind of a backwater at the time and wasnt really desired. T he mongols invaded because they liked conquest but not because they needed anything from Europe
