How the 3rd Law of Thermodynamics Made Einstein Famous

The 3rd law of thermodynamics was created by Walther Nernst who turned to the radical ideas of a young Albert Einstein to support it. This quirky history is vital to understanding how quantum mechanics developed and how the 3rd law works. Enjoy

Before his Annus Mirabilis papers, Einstein worked on Thermodynamics and his results were the same as Gibbs. But since Gibbs had published in a obscure journal, it took a while to propagate through the community. By the time Einstein was ready to publish, he found that Gibbs papers and was disappointed. Which is why he switched to other problems like Brownian Motion, Aether Anamoly and Photoelectric effect etc.
All this to say that Einstein had a deep understanding of Thermodynamics.

forgive my ignorance about the nitty-gritty of Physics, but i never understood the need for the 3rd. It is obvious, at least to me, that there should be a temperature that is lowest in the universe. Logically speaking, that point is unreachable since everywhere else, temperature would be higher. And in TD, is the ultimate heat sink, Carnot efficiency approaching 100%. In QM, Heisenberg's principle also forbids it.

Pride and ego aside. this story is a perfect example of the theory.

The names of the Scientists my Waterloo Electrical Engineering Proefessor Leonard K Watt used to mention in his lecturers. Some of the concepts I could not fully grasp. But came to my dreams like stories.

13: 48 So is there a 3rd law of Thermodynamics corollary? Something like: it is impossible for any number of scientist to precisely define the 3rd law of Thermodynamics.

Your videos are like those stories where you can't wait to hear the end, only you're too afraid to get to the end quickly lest you miss any of the parts in between.

It is very ironic Einstein pushed for wave-particle duality considering the main reason for that is uncertainty and superposition, which he did not like.

Really well-made Kathy on the interesting historical perspective on the genesis of the most foundational laws we know about (and the people. Thanks!

Thanks. Being a total zero about physics you made it for me a bit more clear. But I will never understand the formulas. Alas.

Happy Birthday. You are best science lecturer I have heard. Most of them play game but you tell the truth.
