Actually, the Men of the Light Brigade suffered only 10% to 15% casualties (Total of killed and wounded. However, as a Light Brigade of Calvary, they needed their horses to be effective, since most of the effectiveness in combat required speed and maneuverability.
This is were it gets bad, the number of horses, dead and wounded was high! So they had to stage a retreat under heavy fire which is very difficult! They lost more men and almost all of their remaining horses on this retreat!

Interesting, the politics behind these wars, always sold to the public as a fight of good over evil, with soldiers on both sides blessed by their priest and told they're doing God's work.

Funny thing about this war is that it is the only time in history when Brittish bombed my town during the Baltic sea campaign, makes this rather small town actually feel important.

Nicholas Is death during the war was a tragedy. I once read about his last conversation with his son and it made me cry. He was bearing huge responsibility and sense of guilt.

My great great great grandfather was a finnish marksman in 1853 and he was sent to fight in the crimean war we still have his gold medal he got. Btw he survived
