If Quebec ever become independent or rejoins france by popular vote, then that would geographically split not only Newfoundland&Labrador, but also New Brunswick&Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Thus if those provinces where either economically hit hard or exploited by greater canada to make up fo the loss of Quebec i could then see them all seperate together, either as a new independent state or rejoining as a Dominion of GB. Thus Quebec holds the power in asking for more rights and privialeges because if it wanted too, it could Split canada into 3 separate nations

I will never understand why a people purposely choose AGAINST independence. This is one example. Puerto Rico is another. Scotland before the Brexit vote is a third. Whether the host nation would actually recognize their independence is immaterial, since the vote was against independence. PR famously had a referendum one year with 4 choices: 1) independence, 2) statehood, 3) remain a territory, or 4) none of the above. No choice won a majority, option 4 got the most votes.

My dad is from Newfoundland and remembers when his parents told him about when Newfoundland joined Canada that many people were upset that Newfoundland didnt join USA since America had the better dollar and more development which Newfoundland desperately was needing. Nonetheless both countries are great in their own way and both will have benefits and disadvantages.

And the US had just saved the Brits ass from the German fire plug. So, while they had their begging bowl out, asking for the hard earned American workers' tax money as aid, they were preventing Newfoundlanders from choosing their own future as independent or a state in the United States. The perfidious albion never learns how to be grateful

You pronounce the province's name just like a Newfoundlander. It's spelled NewFoundLand but we say NewFinland.
Lots of fun facts about newfoundland, here's 1. it's the most eastern point on the west side of the world. I can go on with fun facts and history but that should be a multiple part video.

Huh. Labrador is bigger than NFLD yet they call it just NFLD. Its NFLD and Labrador. And please, pronounce it right. Yes, we can get defensive, but we get made fun of quite a lot to, however we would give ya the shirt of our backs. Should have never joined confederation tho.

My job involves occasionally running into neat antiques, like a little metal globe that showed an independent Newfoundland. This prompted me to look up the process of confederation. What a mess that was. lol

A minor quibble, but William Whiteway was not a Premier. He was Prime Minister of an independent, separate country, the Dominion of Newfoundland - like the Dominion of Canada, within the British Commonwealth.

Fun annoying fact, the first D in newfoundland is silent. Another annoying fact, the ou in its name is pronounced as an i. Enjoy.
Also, great vid.

Mistake: St Pierre and Miquelon were counted as part of Newfoundland - Terre Neuve, but the two islands actually still today belong to France.

Funny to know that until 1949, Brits had their remaining Canadian colony, Newfoundland, and Frenchs the same, with Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.
