By the way, this looks a lot like the issues with succession they had with the pope and the Christian states. Except that Turkey got to dictate the rule, whereas if an European state tried to his opponents (which included everyone) would use it as an excuse to gather a Christian army to invade.

If any muslim leader want to unite all muslim under one caliph, western countries will reject it and declare war to all muslim countries. Oil flow from muslim countries will totally control by muslim countries not US. This will lead another crusade from christian nations.

Because the British destroyed the caliphate so they could always stick their nose in things that didn't concern then for their own benefit. a caliphate would have bought unity something the British didn't want. so sad.

Caliph isn't the spiritual successor of Muhammad. There is zero spirituality in that role. Caliph is just the successor in terms of political leadership, not religion.
