The hilarity is in the fact that if you know you're all just making it up then you already know enough to authorize yourselves but you're still bound and won't allow yourself to assume the authority. It still feels transgressive and disloyal. It will feel that way forever. It's just that the awareness that you are your own highest moral authority is already there, you just haven't the strength to don the mantle, yet. When you start becoming an individual in earnest, your desire to own yourself and to experience real liberty as is your legally-protected right grows in intensity until that vague feeling of disloyalty can no longer contain you. Be your own highest moral authority out in the open since you are already that in fact and in law. Be a grownup. Ffs. It's been hundreds of years, already.

Dont forget! Cyril Lucaris (1572-1638, Patriarch of Alexandria & then Constantinople, was taken by the Calvinistic branch of the Reformation, and sent several of his students to study theology in Geneva and England, as well as publishing a doctrinal statement along Calvinistic lines. He was condemned and anathematized by the Council of Constantinople in 1638, but acquitted by the Council of Jerusalem in 1672.
The typical Orthodox position is that his Calvinistic writings were forgeries, but Im not sure they address why he he had such close ties to Geneva and England sending orthodox priests to train with Reformed Protestants.

Medieval Calvinists were the weirdest and grossest: one is preordained to go to heaven or hell from the day you are born. Stfu.
So, if you are already going to heaven, one of the so-called chosen, it doesn't matter what you do? Murder, adultery, torture, war, hoard the land's wealth, etc. You'll go to heaven anyway.
And if you are somehow predetermined to be headed to hell, no matter how nice you are to anyone, including the wealth hoarders and murderers, you have no hope for the afterlife?
Sometimes think some still hold such whacked beliefs.

it was never the case that the enemey of my enemy is my friend
besides the one thing that has orthodox people foaming at the mouth even now is filioque, a minor piece of theological minutia and trivia which they elevate to the greatest heresy of all
as to the issue i neither know nor care whether the spirit proceeded from the Father (alone) or from the father AND the son (in latin filioque). THAT is how trivial it is

On one hand, it's understandable that the Protestants thought they would find common ground with the Orthodox as both factions had a common enemy in Rome.
On the other hand, it's hilarious that the Protestants thought they could convince the Orthodox to agree with them on theology when they couldn't even get other Protestants to agree with them.

So what was the so called Reformation?
a three way hate fest.
so much for the idea that we christians are sufficiently obedient to christ as to actually love one another.
i happen to think that the Protestants had better doctrine but their arrogance made such scraps of docrine utterly worthless.
So i reject all three

tha map shown at 2: 04 and other seconds was interesting. Especially that western part of Anatolia close to Istanbul, but surrounding mostly northern Bursa and Izmit representing orthodox presence, but not the central and Eastern Anatolia where there were Orthodox people living at that time, or Cyprus. Where is this map from?

Just to clarify, Nestorians, EuTychians, and PseudoDionysians are nominal orthodox as the Roman cult is nominal catholic and there's no such thing as protestant Christians for the OrthoDox/CathOlIc/Christian names are identically synonymous!

Obviously, it is too hard to explain important things (plenty of details) within three or even five minutes. However, you did your best. Maybe for future presentations, you might try to do it within 15 minutes? Thank you very much.

It really isnt a suprise to hear the conclusion haha
Zeal is the most potent form of stubbornness, especially when strengthened by conflict.
Still, I pray that we can all unite one day, when ever itll come.

When politics becomes married to any religion, the result is invariably a de facto brothel where only the pimps get paid while the rest of us get. well. you can guess the rest. Great video synopsis. Thank you.

It's a shame that so many people are raised to believe in the wrong religion. I'm sure glad the religion I was raised in, which I too was taught was the correct one, is the correct one.

It is all about a little less crp in folk belief system or more. It is about a little less or more exploitation of the productive work of the majority by a bunch of groups of power.

As for us Jews, we were too busy dodging Protestant antisemitism as well as Catholic antisemitism to care. At least some of the Protestants later calmed down, fortunately.

0: 17 Orthodox weren't created from the falling out with the pope, the catholics were. They are, as the name suggests, the original christianity.

Moral of the story: people just make up what they think god wants them to do.
It's almost as if. gasp the whole thing is just in their minds.

The orthodox was not formed from the schism with the Catholics, the Catholics were formed from the schism. This is important to understand.
