DID survivor here, my case took YEARS to diagnose. Partially because I never fully disassociated when my primary took over and partially from incompetent therapists. I told at least three different mental health professionals I was experiencing DID and they never believed me. I describe my experience as being tapped and terrorized in my own body by something that didn't want me there. I had to fuse us on my own because it was either her or me. I did it to survive otherwise this disorder would have unalived me. It was many years after 'fusion' the diagnosis came. I causally mentioned on my intake forms I truly believed I experienced DID. The physiologist listened to my story fully and told me there was nothing in my narrative that would lead him believe it was something other than DID. Everything I experienced, heard, felt, sensed, was real. SHE was real. It was validating and surreal. I suffered with DID from the ages of 2-mid 20s, my psyche split before 2 from trauma, my primary really manifested after a major trauma at 6 years old. From ages 2-6 I believe she was watching me, observing me, cause I always had a distinct feeling of being watched. I'd hear someone say my name that wasn't there. It sounded right next to my ear and I believe that was her. I don't take to kindly to it becoming a trend to fake a very rare/ serious disorder that stole my childhood and nearly unalived me. Watching those videos as someone who has finally been clinically/professionally diagnosed, sparks a rage in me I can't explain. My relationship with my primary was absive. She didn't want me in my own body, she had no need for me. She strategically and methodically was phasing me out of my own body under the guise of 'protecting me'. She didn't care about me, she wanted to BECOME me. That was terrifying. DID is not creating OCs/ cosplaying and pretending to be characters. It's a very serious disorder and in my case nearly fatal. The physiologist who finally diagnosed me told me to get a DID you have meet all three of a very strict three point evaluation. It's not a diagnosis that mental health professionals just hand out unless they are absolutely SURE that's what the patient has. You can't self diagnose DID.

This is one of the only videos that captures what it feels like for me having DID, people make it seem like you have multiple people in you. But for me I know who I am but I cant control when a certain emotion comes up and my personality or alter changes. I feel it change a lot during arguments, when Im driving (its scary because your brain pauses for a moment and I feel like my body lost all feeling but Im on auto mode if that makes sense) or just anything that stresses me out. The craziest part is I do suffer from amnesia A LOT, but I always remember what Im doin in the moment. Its like I can forget that I said or did something but in that very moment it doesnt feel like Im not there, if anyone gets what Im saying. Im just venting because I never talk to anyone about my condition because they just thinks Im crazy or making it up

Im trying really really hard not to self diagnose but im almost positive I have DID. On top of having other alters that I interact with in my mind infrequently almost everything in this video I have experienced at several points in my life and I have the childhood trauma that is usually the casual factor. Quite a lot of it in fact. I have suspected for a long long time and only recently I have allowed my self to accept thst I probably do. To say nothing of the fact that friends have told me about the alters that they have met. My problem is that its hard to know for sure or not and the VA is a joke when it comes to how they treat their patients. I feel lost like no matter how hard I look i will never have all the answers to why my brain operates the way it does.

As a person with the disorder I wish 14 year old girls would get off mommies iPad and understand that DID isn't playing pretend with your mysterious alters or whatever. Depersonalisation is actually pretty scary. Its like a random amount of time was stolen from you whos yourself but actually not you living your life in your body. Its hard to explain. Im glad this video shows the basics in a way thats easy to understand I remember being diagnosed and the first thing that came into my mind was I had to keep this a secret or else people would think I spend too much time on tictok watching a 27 year old woman who has multi colored hair and is yelling into a paper bag or throwing burritos around the room because she has self diagnosed turrets.

Hi. My friend has DID but I see that other people have very good relationships with their alters but my friend doesn't. They almost never interact with each other and they only do if something terrible hapoens. His alter is named Axel and I'm concerned he might hurt my friend or his loved ones. Axel is always mad and he often tells my friend to isolate and push everyone away and has said some hurtful things to me, but I know is not my friend who's saying all those things so I don't let it get to me. I don't know if I should advice him to try and have a better relationship with Axel oranything else. I don't know what to do. If any one could help me, I would be very greatful!

This is the first time that ive looked into this diagnosis. I was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic high-level ADHD since I was a child. Ive been through a lot of stuff in my life and have learned about my psychosis. But i believe this diagnosis better fits me. Of it could try to explain my psychosis I get trapped in my reflection like nicki saunders from the show HEROS. I have lost years of time that i cant recall. I do the same thing everyday. But when it went to a service call that I remembered I look back in our history and I had been there in 2020. I had to collect myself to hide my panic when it saw this. This was great

This was a pretty good video but one thing that bothered us is how you said that DID/OSDD is strictly trauma based. That's not always the case. For instance, our system is endogenic, meaning we formed for another reason other than trauma. Referred to by professionals as a DNI or a natural system by the community in the past. People have been experiencing this for a while now and they are fully valid. Some of the other reasons a system may form could be due to pre existing neurodivergency, or a spiritual reason. We're not trying to take away resources from traumagenic systems, we simply just want to exist without all of the hate.

I've been hearing voices and recently asked friends and reddit about it (not always good) but every person -or almost everyone- always tell me that it MIGHT be DID. I'm not fully sure and dont like self diagnosing nor talking about it sometimes. But these voices recently started getting severe such as them growing personalities and interests, I'm getting scared. After asking reddit, I'm starting to think I should ask for help.
This video explains so much about it, and I'm seeing the similarities. So I think I'll actually see a doctor about it.

My friend opened up to me about his DID recently and in secret I told the other friend in my 4 friend group about it that doesn't know about his DID in secret, later telling him, he got very mad and I asked him if he really expects to live his whole life with others not knowing, and he said yes, the other one in the friend group he was really close to him, so he opened up about it to him, and he made fun of it calling him a weirdo. I'm not sure if I should be guilty or if the friend with DID should be thankful.

I have a friend diagnosed with DID and BPD. The latter, I'm familiar with (another friend of mine is stuck with that particular bugbear, and I've known her 18 years, but DID had me a little confused. This has helped me recognise symptoms that I didn't even realise were symptoms. Now that I know a bit more about what she's dealing with, her oddities (which are among her more endearing qualities) don't seem so odd. Now, maybe, I can better help her ride the who am I today? rollercoaster. Thankyou.

One single complaint. I dislike the perspective this spins about final fusion (all identities being brought together as one) being the only solution. I can say this is not the solution for everyone, as many systems (The entire group of identities together, just finding a way to co-exist is often also viable. As a system (Not DID because we don't experience amnesia, also it doesn't cause us undue hardship) here, we are happy to have each other, and couldn't imagine integrating;

I think I have DID. I have 3 different ppl in my head. I only realized this 2 years ago. I looked at my reflection and saw another person and she was telling me the ways how all of us could coexist better and deal with the world better. I write everything in my diary and it helps to figure the others out better. I cant tell the switch. We switch very fast sometimes especially when doing jobs and everyone is doing something else so the order of tasks is weird.

Hello, possible OSDD system here, I've been doing a lot of my own research lately and I came here cause I love psych2go and wanted to see if u guys had any videos concerning DID/OSDD. However, this video IS from 3 years ago and some of the information is a tad bit outdated. Not to mention the fact that new information is constantly being discovered. We would appreciate it if we could get a more updated video? Maybe? Please?

I have a specific memory from when I was 18 and driving along a local road and had no memory of driving up until I reached a stoplight and recognized that I was gone for a short time, still on autopilot and driving safely but there just wasn't any memory of the past few miles I had driven until coming to the light. There's plenty more, but that memory and the echo of many others sounded off after learning more about this.

As someone who has struggled with personal safety from being emotionally neglected in childhood, i coped by trying to figure out who I am through material things. and I could run away for a while, but the problem remained even years after the danger was gone. DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) was helpful for me. Not just for becoming comfortable with myself and my values, but embracing it all.

Well, for my system this is very good help
It took three years to realize 13 other ppl are in my head. Ngl I thought they were just voices. But when I dissociated as a child and stuff an came back and I'm magically in a mental hospital or different foster home. This really helps me understand a lot, They so have their own identities too but I'm still learning. :)

It's worth noting that treatment and recovery for DID doesn't require all the personalities to come together as one. There's an alternative option where they stay separate but become more defined and functional as their own people and then working towards making all the personalities cooperate and work together.

I was diagnosed with DID a bit back. I've always had so much trouble with my memory especially from past. I haven't had therapists in a few years but she did mention that it could effect my memory. I don't remember what she the reasons were though. I'm glad I found this video. It made me feel more understood.

I have a question about DID, can the main user meaning like the one who controlled the main body communicate with the other personality?
What I'm saying is basically can a person communicate with their other personality physically or mentally?
And can a person develop DID themselves at will?

The goal for treatment isn't necessarily making all the alters become one person. Please don't spread misinformation. Integration is the goal and not to be confused with final fusion. That just means establishing solid contact and cooperation between alters so that the system can function as a whole.

I've heard from people with DiD that fusion isn't necessarily the goal, and they stress that fusion must never be forced. The goal could just be to open up communication and cooperation between the selves and form a functioning system of cohabitation within the mind and body.
