What Your Favorite Music Genre Says About You

There are many types of music genres out there. In this video, we discuss Nie: Favorite music genre? Quite some. And I wouldn't nail it down to A genre buit more like having favorite music spectrums.
Jazz as an example. What doesit say about me? Do you consider all the aspects of jazz, from when it began to what we have now? The cool jazz? The hot Mississipi stompers? The New Orleans Shuffle? The 70s psychedelic jazz and fusion styles? The more TV show adviced swing dance styles? Maybe we also include Electro Swing, which was and still is an amalgam of classic jazz and swing dance elements, incorporated into modern house and hip hop music beats. So Jazz alone blows the equation in such a narrow minded idea.
So, what's next? Trance. Now what trance music? The humble beginnings when Jean-Michel Jarre was a living one man show, surrounded by multiple electronic keyboard devices? That stuff that transpired through the 80s EBM shlock? The trance music from the 90s when Trance was slowly recognised as its own genre? The psy trance umbrella that alone splits up into more then two dozens sub genres? Good luck nailing down someone's personality in sight of that.
And now what's next? Ah yes? Euro Disco. Where to start there. The classic italo disco, from an era where one man, Berhard Mikulski (founder of the ZYX music label / group, in the late 70s took disco records from Italian labels and discotheques and brought them over here, promoting all of it under the umbrella term Italo Disco? Where living room artists could finally make a living on their own, only equipped with a dream and a sythesizer? That stuff that made a huge junk of sonical noise throughout the 80s? And that is only one aspect. Then came the 90s. Italo disco was still there but shifted gears in the later 80s already as can be heard with certain recordings from an artist named Lee Marrow. The thin line between the 80s and 90s was highly loaded and interesting in that regard. Then came Euro Dance. Mostly also distributed through the ZYX label, founded by Berhanrd Mikulski. Other labels easily jumped that bandwagon for better and worse. Now rap singing elements were the rage, making Euro Dance distinctively different from previous Italo Disco. Also the beats became more rapid, the energetic drive got ramped up. So there is so much that every 80s and 90s revival party can feed from Italo Disco / Euro Dance / Euro Beat music alone. Throw in some American discotheque tunes from the 70s, American house music from the 80s, Technomusic and what not, things become perfect. Nail down a person's personality on that?

I'm an audiophile/musicophile. I'll get into a soundscape before I'm hearing any lyrics (sometimes I won't pay much attention to lyrics for years, only knowing a little about it. My classical music I prefer to be small ensemble chamber music, especially string ensembles. Everything else, I like to have some kind of psychedelic element to it. This can be anything from a long, maybe slightly wavering tones to distortion or vamped out instruments and vocals to filter sweeps to record scratching to synth sounds. Normally, a little bit done in the vein of the artistic intent, or even juxtaposed, is good. It's not a hard and fast thing I go by, it just gets my attention. Now that I think about it, it may be that my ear and heart and mind pick up on it as a _liminal_ experience. Sometimes, the music can do this without that element with the use of chord progressions. With vocals, the singers heart has to be in it. Not played up or performative, but they invoke their emotion with the singing. At least the emotion of desiring to connect with an audience. Then when it comes to lyrics, when I finally do pay attention to them (usually because I feel like I want to sing along) I tend to really like the more poetic and abstract stuff rather than literal stuff. Interpol's music comes to mind.
Generally, I don't tend to like music that is really busy. Red Hot Chili Peppers defies this though, because. I don't know. Magic? Maybe because they do it without it seeming dense. I don't tend to like music that is too dense in sound, like full symphonies (too many of the same instruments playing at once and too many different instruments playing at once) or heavy metal that is an aural onslaught. Distorted guitars are busy enough, they don't need to be chorused. Yet, I like some noise bands tracks. But, generally what I say here is a way for me to say what I like. Since you asked.

I'm on a small little boat all by myself in a vast ocean, apparently. I've read nearly all the comments on this vid and can't find anyone who listens to the same type of music I listen to lol But that's okay.
Firstly though, I enjoy easy-listening Piano music because I play the piano myself, and have been playing for over 24+ years. I'm not much a fan of classical music, however. There are some that I like but I incline more towards simple diatonic melodies and simple diatonic chord progressions since i'm an incredibly simple diatonic person lol
I also like some classic pops as well like Celine Dion, BeeGees, Bonnie Tyler, Whitney Houston. and modern easy-listening pop like Andrea Bocelli, Celtic Women.
HOWEVER, one of my go-to genres is something called Zouk Remixes. It originates from the French Caribbean islands. It's a very tropical, catchy-dancy kind of music with a hint of Latin rhythms but still very modern. I can't help but tap my foot to the beat, especially if it's got that 1-5-1-5 bassline walk (musicians will no know what im talking about. It just puts me in a happy mood and reminds me of a nice walk on the beach wearing leisure beach clothes with my girlfriend (Don't have one yet but let me daydream lol). and maybe a small romantic dance.
I absolutely love to blast this kind of music in my car lol I have powerful 12 inch dual subs. I DO NOT like muddy bass and soft volume because I feel it takes away a lot of its value. At home, I listen through a pair of Sony 1000xM4's. I'll see if I can link some examples.
I wonder what this strange combination of musical taste says about me

At the place I was working at 20 years ago the kids were listening to heavy metal and the guy on satellite radio but the boss, the owner, was ok with it.
Then one day he brought two prospective clients into the shop, and was surprised to hear the Carpenters.
After they left he came upstairs and asked whose idea it was to have the Carpenters on. Russel, God rest his soul, said that it was my CD. I said that since Russel double-dog dared me I had to do it. Everyone laughed. Jay, the owner, said that he realized that he was taking the clients into the heavy metal halfway up the stairs and was thankful that we had the Carpenters on. He bought pizza for the shop that day. Jay promised us that he'd give us a heads-up next time and we kept the Carpenter CD handy.
Sometimes it got played when nobody was coming.

Rock and metal should not be in the same category in my opinion. And even certain genres of metal. It could be the difference between an unintelligent middle aged alcoholic who beats his wife vs a high iq individual who relates and sees the depth and nuisances within everything. From my personal observations, a lot of hair rock bands and thrash metal listeners vary much from emo and metalcore/deathcore enjoyers for instance. Lots could even overlap and relate closer with those who enjoy instrumental classical music.

As a singer, well, this doesn't really apply to me since I don't have a preferred genre. I only love great voices, difficult to sing songs or great interpretations. Because of that I hear anything from religious music to anime music. I love opera but I also love some death metal songs. Usually my playlist is a mess that I never show to anybody xD. I have some public playlists made for those times when someone I know may listen to what I'm currently playing haha

There we are again. Three years ago you made this video already, and then now a couple of months ago you did that again? Even once more supported by pseudo science? Why? Nothing has really changed and people still looking for justifications to like the music theylike and to hate people based on music they personally do not like? Again? Mankind won't change. Always on the hunt for the next level of superstition.

I love two types of music: Jazz/electro swing, and I'm not sure what to call it, but it's the 'Lo-Fi' type of music. But funnily enough, I'm quite introverted, I love spending time alone and being creative, or studying and learning new things.

I listen to a lot of reggae and beach sounding music. It makes me think of the beach and I do ise it to express my personality.
But I feel kind of isolated because it's not as wide spread as other types of music.

What if you just love ALL music? Going from genre to genre with every new song? Including like sounds that are not even songs, just sounds that sound like a melody to you.
reply

I can listen and like almost all genres mentioned. However my favorite would have to heavy metal/rock and the traits given for that genre pretty well describe me.

My favorite music genre is Metalcore (a blend between Extreme Metal and Hardcore Punk) and Deathcore (a blend between Metalcore and Death Metal) but I also love Hatsune Miku
reply

I love instrumental music such as jazz, rock, metal and indie. It's the most emotional for me, I often feel a response not only in the sound, but also in the lyrics
reply

I'm an introvert, but sadly, I couldn't connect to any of these since I don't listen to those music genres. I like swing, but not jazz. Electronic, but not pop.
