People who say Spain was the most tiranical country during the discovery of America, let me remind you that it also was one of the first countries to ban slavery and blended with the natives of the continent making what we now call -Latino-america-. England on the other hand didn't let anyone alive to cry for their crimes XD

The civil war actually started because there were no right wing political parties left, due to political assassinations. And the eagle was adopted as a religious symbol, it's Saint John's eagle. Franco's dictatorship was only fascist for the duration of the second world war, after that it became a military dictatorship

In school in Spain they taught us that the Spanish flag has no meaning and the design was so that is the EASIEST flag to see in the ocean. The Spanish flag changed from the reed cross to the reed and yellow in the time of Atlantic sovereignty.

I'm a Spaniard and I've learned more about my country with this video than from years of Spanish History (you summarized the bourbons quite a lot, it is much more complicated than that but it is very clear and better this way)

Very good video. Spanish Flag (Red-Yellow-Red) was chosen by Charles III in 1785. as naval ensign because Spanish and English flags were the same (Red and White) and in battle it was almost impossible to distinguish.

when describing the flag you forgot to mention the two little crowns on the pillars. one of them being the royal crown and the other being the imperial crown as a sort of reminder of spains previous world empire.

How you have not noticed? the red and yellow colors are for the flag to serve as a -capote- (the piece of cloth that bullfighters use to tire the bull. The Spaniards thought it to be multipurpose

I-m hoping someone has some info on this. I bought a hand stitched flagged in Spain last year, but the coat of arms is centered in the flag. What-s the meaning of this?

Also that eagle and coat of arms draws back from the catholic kings, it's not like he tried to invent anything new. Just pointing out, just saying. 5: 30

3: 56 the last habsburg king was called Carlos II. Felipe II was literally the guy who ruled Spain at its highest power.

Uh, I think you had a typo in the name. Philip II of Spain was born in 1527 and died in 1598. Plus, how was Joanna crazy?
