What the Most Northern Town in America is Like (Barrow)

What the Most Northern Town in America is Like (Barrow) I wonder why people dont pool their resources to have a co-op that brings in a years worth of staples on a ship in the summer. Certainly it would be cheaper than flying in things. Maybe the USDA rural development program would finance a low interest loan both to buy and ship the supplies, as well as build a warehouse. Energy costs for freezers would be low, so vaccum packed frozen items would keep, while other frozen items could be a special treat when the ship comes in with staples to last nearly a year. In hope someone there reads this so they can do a cooperative program with the USDA to lower the cost of living. If course, the store owner would be furious because his business would go down 90%.

I've lived in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, Alaska my entire life, but I've never been to Barrow (it is now called Utquiavik. I went to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay in January, which is close, and I did it because I wanted to see a real Arctic winter and Deadhorse is usually about 10-15 degrees colder. I'm not quite sure why though. When I was there, at one point it was -36F with a windchill of -67F.

Thats the coolest place u can go for a vacation. save up hundreds of thousands of dollars and go there once a decade if u wish, with ur family, friends. It would definitely be a place u wouldnt forget. BTW go only if u can withstand the temperatures that is.

Math is horribly incorrect in the beginning of the video. 738, 000 is roughly 0. 5% of 142 million. This is 100x more than what is stated in the video. If the population were actually 0. 005% of that number then it would be about 7000 people.

biden and leftists want only energy to come from solar panels. Yep, they be looking to kill most of you. I know, you keep voting Dem because you've convinced yourself it's other people who will die, just gotta be.

When you want us to think something is close you say a mere 2, 000 kilometers. When you want us to think its far you say - a whopping 2, 000 kilometers- well those are the same distance. and it's still very far.

If I am going to visit someplace so remote, I would rather it be some place that had beautiful scenery and an exotic culture. Barrow just looks depressing. And cold. Southern Alaska is a much better choice.

My dad lived there, I went to visit 6 years ago when I was in the 4th grade, I didn't realize that I was in the artic or in the most northern town in america, but now I do.

When I worked for the DoD, I was asked to plan a trip to Barrow for a bomber mission. Unfortunately it was canceled. I was rea, ly looking forward to the trip

In theory, if you were to take a vacation there, what would be fun to do? Any state parks? Museums, or interesting buildings? Or is vacationing there a silly idea

Could you please not use those pointless units?
Living in the 21st century people should be able to use proper metric units and not some empirical nonsense.

Point Barrow is the northernmost point of the mainland US but not all of North America. There is a Canadian promitory 40 miles more northerly.

This was very informative. I didn't know people lived in places like that. High prices, very little supply, and such a cold, cold place.

Nice video. But, if you're aiming for s more global audience, maybe give the temperature in units that the rest of the world uses.
reply

their are towns that are actually more North then Utqiagvik in Canada for example the small town of Arctic Bay on Baffin Island
reply

For the record, the sale of alcohol is prohibited in Barrow. Overall, this town is extremely boring. Avoid at all costs.
reply

Its not the the northern most point in the entire north American continent canada goes much north than alaska
reply

Why would any9ne want to make a special trip there. Just to say you were there. I'll buy a magnet online. Thanx.
reply

And btw Alaksa is 4X further from the north pole at the closest distance than it is to the state of Washington.
reply

Probably should have touched on why the town exists. How do the people make money? Why are they there?
reply

You must have to be desperate to get away from people if you are willing to pay those grocery prices.
