Why We May Not Be Able to Visit Space in the Future
video description
Following the usual trend of -these rules were written in blood- that many areas of human development have followed (see aviation, nuclear energy, mining, conventions on warfare, and maybe some things you can think of but I cant for examples, I expect that while we know of the problems now, cavalier attitudes will prevail until the next few major accidents cause massive rethinking of the whole situation and, again following the same trend, efforts to remove human decisions from the hard parts of the equation. Were primed for excellence never before seen in this solar system, if only we can get ourselves out of our way.

this is largely exaggerated. space is soo massive that in comparison to the size of a satellite the satellite is pretty much an ant walking around a continent. while it is true that some sort of chain reaction could happen, it would require A LOT more junk for it to even be something worth to consider. that said most of the current satellites are already equipped to deal with this space junk. most of the collision risk in space is attributes to the satelite crash of decades ago & the numerous anti-satellite weapon tests(which exploded a couple satellites into tiny ppieces. space agencies monitor and catalogue all satellites and large debris of where they are flying, making satelite crashes extremely unlikely.
if the amount of space junk increases significantly the only thing that would happen is that space travel & putting satellies into orbit would become much more expensive.
do you think humanity would continue to use the same models if such a thing were to occur? NO. they would find ways to deal with it.

I remember a plan a few years ago for sending up an ion thruster trash removal probe and it would de-orbit all the space junk in about 7 years.
I'd like to see them send about 14 of them up there and get rid of it all in 6 months.
Then leave a few parked in an upper orbit, ready to roomba in at any moment and pick up the debris.
Calling Elon Musk. I'm sure you could get the ball rolling in a week or two. Please fix this.

Damn it costs hundred if not thousands of dollar per kg to send stuff into space and youre telling me we have a -space pollution- problem? Like we really cant even avoid littering even though it is perhaps the most difficult place to get to and the future of our species depends on it? Humans really are the cancer of this planet.

Unlike the totally fake and false political -climate change- disaster that has caused ridiculous restrictions that are ruining life on earth for no reason, this situation WILL happen, it is happening already, and will only get worse. And Elon Musk launching thousands of satellites into orbit sure isn't helping things.

the problem with this theory is that it makes it seem like all spacecrafts are built equally and cant handle this abuse, simply put; the space industry can just built crafts capable of handling the punishment of small debri hitting it

I think what we should do, is invest in space recycling. Sounds dumb but think about NASA or SpaceX investing in recycling ships so we can bring them back down to earth, melt down the metal pieces and make new parts

Why not add rockets to the satellites, so then if they're nearly dead (battery) then it'll blast it's self into deep space. The satellite can be replaced when NASA or space x go up into space

From 0: 15. The vast majority of human activity in space has taken place around 400km above the earth's surface. 2000km is where the limit of low earth orbit is generally defined.

If we don-t survive 100 years from now, life on Earth that continued to survive will adapt to warmer weather, and might thrive to continue until the next extinction event.

I was always taught growing up and have taught my daughter to never litter, why did they push that belief onto us when they were littering on a MUCH LARGER scale?

Scale though, the earth is not surrounded by a net of stuff like the images show. Just think that we don't have enough cars on the planet to do that on land.

When this thing goes on its going to be just junk in the space and there well be no plants because of human activity. Thats why Wall-e movie was created.

ok so I-m not a space expert and stuff but what if we could make a machine that sucks up space junk and turns it into fuel to clear up our atmosphere?

Well, Elon Musk and Bezos are in process of sending more hundreds and then thousands of low orbit satellites so we can have internet worldwide

And we wonder why aliens keep passing by earth! Why on earth would another species dare step foot on this trash heap of a planet!
