Alaska actually generally observes 2 time zones. Alaskan Standard & Hawaii-Aleutian/Bering Standard. Down south east some also observe Yukon Standard and Pacific Standard due to their proximity to Canada, making it a minimum of four. At least they all observe daylight savings for now. It's a really big state. If AK went by the 24-hour global divide like you suggested at the beginning, it would be 4.

As someone who lives in Arizona the no daylight savings time is actually a pretty big inconvenience. I say, something starts at 2pm est, I can just subtract a certain amount of hours, because it-s always changing. And, as someone who has lived here my entire life I have never had to do daylight savings so I can never keep track and always have to look it up

The Province of Saskatchewan in Canada does not follow day light savings time. The Province of Newfoundland Canada is its own time zone. The other Canadian Atlantic Provinces ( PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) are all together in their own time Zone Atlantic instead of Eastern so in the summer there are 7 time zones and 6 in the winter.

Despite Spain being 1 hour ahead, the Canary Islands (which are part of Spain, but also kind of separate in terms of time and duties) are on GMT, like Portugal. Which is handy for those of us from the British Isles who go there since we don't have to worry about forgetting to move our watches and phones forwards.

What about the time zones in Canada, while mostly normal it's when you get to Newfoundland that it gets odd. Newfoundland while an Atlantic province like New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, Newfoundland is a half hour off so when it's 17: 00 in Prince Edward Island it's 16: 30 in Newfoundland.

North Korea recent timezones are funny as well. In 2015 they changed to UTC+8: 30, officially to get rid of imperialist influences. But in 2018 they changed it back to South Korean time at UTC+09: 00. This time as a further step to unifying the Koreas. They did similar flipflops in 1908 and 1911.

I have one. Singapore is located in the same latitude as Peninsular Malaysia and Western Indonesia (Sumatra, Java and West and Central Kalimantan, yet Singapore is an hour ahead from Western Indonesia. Even both Peninsular and East Malaysia have the same time zone as Singapore.

In France, not only do we have to put up with an awkward time (which is an hour too early, like Spain, we have to keep changing it twice a year.
Meaning it's still dark when we get up at 7h in the morning in winter, and doesn't get dark until about 9 at -night- in summer.

I'm a newbie on this lesson, wish the time zone are the same so that people won't tired traveling, for example:
When people has a job in the USA at 10 am morning it means people should fly there in the evening where people has already sleep in asian countries.

If you think about it, if a person stood
at the North Pole, or the South Pole,
they could walk around all the
time zones just like that. If they
were 20 yards from each Pole,
they would just have to walk
around each Pole in a circle.

I really wanted to watch your video, but I was afraid I wouldn't have time. So, I hopped over to the Navajo reservation and found I had an hour to kill. Great video! Now I have to rush back to Phoenix. I think I'm late for an appointment!

I think we should just get rid of time zones and have everyone on the same time. I mean, what does it matter if the sun rises at 6: 00 in Africa and 15: 00 in the US? It already doesn-t make sense for the sun to rise at 6!

In a perfect world, we would only have one time zone. If it's 8 a. m. in China, its 8 a. m. everywhere. Sure, that might be in the middle of the night somewhere, but after a couple of generations everyone would be used to it.

How on earth did you make this video without mentioning Newfoundland, which is 1/2 an hour ahead of Atlantic Canada time. Not an hour, oh no, just 1/2 an hour to make it super confusing.

In Canada our eastern most province is 30 minutes behind the next timezone over. So it's always 30 minutes past the hour when the other five timezones are at the top of the hour.

There's one instance in the US where an East Coast and West Coast state are only one hour apart. The Western panhandle of Florida and the Eastern part of Oregon.

It-s weird because the whole thing is made by us. Time is invented, but movement of matter is not. Time is our tool to measure movement of matter, that-s all.

You would think after this long we would fix these time zones, but NOOOO, countries want specific ones and bend the hell out of them.
