video description
And of course, if some parts of the world dam off their oceans, that just makes the flooding that much worse everywhere else.

Just an urgent warning of what might be needed if we don't change the way things are going?
THERE IS NO CHANGING the way things are going! The ice caps ARE melting and the seas ARE rising!
Somebody gather around the big wigs of all the countries and start budgeting, because that shit might be the best solution to not only prevent land from disappearing, as it says in the video, we might even be able to create more land.
As for the troubles with trade, I mean, isn't there a solution for everything?
If we create more land mass, won't the trade just go from water to land? And if we do still keep the waters in there, have you never heard of a thing called a 'sluis'. You know, the things we have all over our country, that compensates for the different water levels. Sure, it will be quite a chore to make those and it'll probably be more expensive in the long run, than to convert to land trade, but there are always options. Right?

It is better to have a plan for big dams then no plan for big dams. Capitalism works mid-term, which is great for representation but there are reasons why the seas are rising in the first place
Edit: what I mean is that we won't have any kind of useful design if something happens somewhere for any reason unless some people do these supposedly redundant research projects

Sea level is unable to rise, hence why it is called 'sea level. ' What is actually happening is -land-sinking- due to soil compaction, erosion and overgrazing without regular field rotations.
I also theorise that mining of natural gas may cause the land to become less buoyant and sink.
The Indians talks of cycles of the land rise and sinking, hence Atlantis.

I'm pretty sure that the people who crossed the bearing sea land bridge so very long ago lived in a time with lower sea levels. Maybe this is actually something that is supposed to happen and it's nature's way of saying -move inland dummy-. But trying to hold back the sea? Seems to have worked out really well for Venice. They've got that problem licked for sure.

This can never happen. the northern countries would get to cold (sweden and ESPECIALLY Denmark rely heavily on the gulf stream to keep the temperatures up.
So its a -cool idea- that once ONE of these complete catastrophic flaws come the whole idea cant work.
Like saying lets heat iron to 1 million degrees.
You cant, it wouldnt be iron anymore: D.

If the sea level rose 2 meters this year, that would be catastrophic. If the sea level rose 2 meters over 80 years however, not so much. People talk about rising sea levels as if folks are just going to stand there for 80 years while the water slowly rises over their heads.

I don't think that industrialized nations should get to further mess with the environment to literally wash away their hubris and comeuppance. I would support extreme measures to protect the lands of people that did not substantially contribute to man-made climate change.

Fortunally it will never happen. Sad but true, the reality is when the ocean will raise its level, dutch people will need to move somewhere else. They've done their best already, that's all. This story of building hundread km of dams it's pure nonsense.

Also sea levels are rising because they are warming. Since we don't know how that will eventually affect weather patterns, we can't necessarily rule out a hurricane with Katrina-like tendencies turning those people into a hashtag

Oh Dear Lord could you imagine the conflict caused by revealing Doggerland from the seas? The Netherlands would absolutely claim a shitton of it because of the -credit- to take for the water plans. But Britain is. Britain. That's Britain.

do we have enough material to actually do this? he said before in another video theres not even enough material to dam the strait of gilbarltr, so i dunno how this would be doable if thats true

There's got to be a consequence for pushing back that much water. If they build this dam, wouldn't it cause areas across the globe to have more water encroachment on their territories?

If this dam gets built, they have to use it to connect the Shetland and Orkney Islands to Mainland Scotland via rail and road. I feel like that's an opportunity that shouldn't go wasted.

If you were to lower the North Sea where would the water go also coastlines on the outside of the dam would be more like to flood as the water level would rise even higher.

Baltic Sea would become fresh? It's borderline potable to begin with. In fact, it's the only place where drinking seawater rehydrates you rather than kills you.
