bit of a disappointment, thought we'd get a bit more on the bio-chemistry of it and how the brain works, as well as just more of the Psychology of it, like how the brain needs some amount of one of the hormones to even initiate the 'do action' thing, and how without it our mind will just roll it over and over and over again in our head (rumination) trying to make a reaction happen to trigger the production of that hormone so it can be acted upon. or how extrinsic 'motivation' can come from avoiding a negative and isn't always a positive, fear will cause its product just as joy will, this is were threats seem to 'motivate' people, and is what lots of bad parents will use to justify that people are just 'lazy' when they threaten people with things like a punishment if they don't do a thing, using that as 'proof' that said person could always do it, nope you just gave them more anxiety, and if it happens enough it becomes trauma, so don't do that.
also this video suggests making things more fun will increase intrinsic motivation, this is partial correct, figuring out what makes the task not work, and adding things you enjoy will improve it yes, but if you get stuck thinking of how to make it fun that just brings back rumination which is bad, especially if the thing is creative.
bit of a side track but the prefrontal cortex (part of the brain) is used for creative things and thinking, and it is easily stressed out, and if its stressed you can't do the creative thing, and trying to 'just do it' and 'force it' stresses it more, if you want it to work you need to relax, let it be and chill, so give yourself space, and for most people (especially anxious people) give yourself forgiveness and ease, your allowed to have it. back on track.
this video also greatly under played how important other people are, we're a social species, everything becomes so much easier and better if we have other people to do it with, even for introverts, the dishes are such a easy task to do when you have someone else there, even if they are just chilling. give two unmotivated people a task and they'll be able to do it without to much trouble, they might be sluggish but by just having another person it increases production of that 'do thing' hormone allowing them to start and do the task, its that whole being a social species thing, are hormones and psychology are effected by those around us and what they are doing, not just what we're doing.
also those saying you need discipline are also mistaken, it has been found that discipline is an emotion, and its the counter part to the negative emotion doubt, so if you have doubt you won't have discipline, and if you have anxiety you'll likely have doubt, its part of how its been found that those with 'discipline' actually just don't have many things to cause doubt. like those who don't have cravings for junk food seem disciplined compared to those who do, but its just a lack of the doubt 'should I eat a donut? ' so if you want discipline for something you'll need a way to get rid of/resolve the doubt, a lot of people do this with a mantra, but that's advised against on account of how much they can mess with your head; how many people have been 'disciplined' in doing terrible things by telling themselves they were right or just? yeah to many.
so if you really need some help to do the thing get someone to talk to while you do it

I rarely comment, but I feel compelled because this hits close to home. Finding the motivation to do things is the hardest thing for me and unfortunately I have an unhealthy tendency of procrastinating. My biggest hobby is writing and I'd love to become an author one day, but my depression takes away all of my energy and motivation, even for the things I actually enjoy. It's frustrating because then I procrastinate and end up doing nothing and yet I feel constantly tired and frustrated at the whole situation. I hope I can tame my depression enough for my motivation and my energy to increase more frequently.

Sometimes it might feel like there is an emotional barrier or discomfort when you think about a goal. Something that might help the process, would be to allow or embrace the sensation of that discomfort. Generally, allowing it can help it to dissipate. To then get back to a more content state. Like amor fati, or radical acceptance, or Jocko saying, .grrrrooood, by observing and allowing the literal physiological sensations of the emotion to pass by. If you can help it

I follow the idea that discipline (and honesty, proper pacing, goals, and vision) are best, but I have an alternative idea:
Get a chair, preferably a white monobloc chair, and sit down in it. Grab some headphones and listen to a song called Bury the Light by Casey Edwards and Victor Borba. Bonus points if you have a katana and/or a Monster, preferably a white one. Just trust me. Your motivation will go through the roof.

it's important to note that if you have forms of mental illness or neurodivergence, your executive functioning and thus motivation to do nearly anything can be severely inhibited to the extent of it being debilitating. sometimes having the energy to simply eat lunch or watch a show you love just doesn't exist. to anyone who does struggle with it, i wish you good luck, there are ways to cope and you will be okay

I m going to be honest (no jokes, but I m literally trying to motivate myself to sit through this 5 minute long clip. But I just can t. I literally have it on pause while typing. And the same goes for homework. My boss offerd to pay for an education, but I just can't motivate myself to do anything. And when I finally open my laptop, I just stare at my screen and can t come up with anything. It s insane

3: 48 like wanting to do dishes/chores on your own but losing all motivation the instant someone asks you to do it when you were just about to do it right now.

Life has no guarantees. Your gonna die. Do the best you can cause one day you can't do anything anymore. Lazyness is always punished. So be afraid.

Intrinsic motivation sounds great, but I've got dead inside disease which prevents me from even wanting to do the things I usually like lol

I lack the motivation to watch this video, and by the time you see this. I probably not even reach 30 seconds of the video.
