What if the Soviets Won the Cold War? Br777: I would say it's more the more likely scenario's for making the ussr stronger and the u. s. weaker, would be an immense amount of economic de-regulation causing the American economy to more rapidly develop it's boom-bust cycles, causing further de-stabilization. The soviets taking a different stance immediatly following ww2. Instead of keeping their economy militarized expecting an imminent war with the allies, it focusing on developing its civilian industry, one less handi-cap slowing them down. 2. supporting a civil war in italy. The U. S. wouldn't be able to convince it's populous to get involved immediately in another war in Europe, just after the troops would have returned home from a brutal campaign there. 2. This would create intense fear in france that if the communist/socialist didn't win, a civil war would start, with additional ussr backing, they could end up winning. The loss of Italy and France would firmly root the idea that the continent of europe is the domain of the soviets, it would make it easier to keep powers like yugoslavia in line and keep some powers, Norway and denmark from picking a side.

In our timeline, both the UK and France had a strong military throughout the Cold War. If they had the will, they would have been able to defend West Germany without US troops.
For this timeline to work out, the UK and France would need to withdraw their troops from West Germany.
Let's say that the Western powers mistreated Germany. Provided that the point of divergence comes around 1946, it could include
Overreaching revenge against German war crimes, instead of the Nuremberg trials
Overreaching war reparations
No Marshall Plan
No unification of the Federal Republic of Germany (which became today's Germany)
No D-Mark
No Berlin airlift
In this timeline, West Germany would be poorer, non-aligned, and subject to diplomatic pressure from the Soviet Union, in a manner similar to Finland. Somewhere during the Cold War, Germany would be re-unified, and allied with the Soviet Union.

The soviets wouldve invaded Afghanistan again in the 2000s due to this timelines 9/11 in the Soviet Union somewhere but I think in this timeline Saddam would still rule iraq today and a mini Cold War May start between the soviets and China over whos version of communism is better with India I have no Idea if it would turn communist or not it may be the new democratic power in the world or it might go down a communist route like its northern neighbour and there is still a S L I G H T possibility that Yugoslavia may still fall apart other than the Soviet Union the other powers would be China maybe japan and India

I am not studious in the matter, but if I understand correctly the soviets had a system of semi-privatization going on (I can only come up with weapons manufacturers like Sukhoi and Mig) that made the Soviet economy grow relentlessly until the 60s, when Kruschev introduced some bullcrap regulations like prices are fixed by the government etc. Maybe things would have been a bit better if this didn't change, I dont know the strategic effects but please take a look at it!
PD: love your content, keep it up

The main reason the US won the Cold War had more to do with the actions of the Soviet government that those of Washington. Gorbachev's liberalization reforms-which were intended to PRESERVE, not capitulate-backfired and Moscow lost control not only of its satellites but of its homeland itself. Had Gorbachev had the will to enforce the Brezhnev doctrine, history would have turned out differently.

Im a socialist. I dont like the totalitarian tankies at all, but sometimes, sometimes, I have this tiny wish that they did, albeit later in time when the soviet elites were more liberal. I fantasize they would be victorious through morality.
Dreams, just dreams.

The last bit about apartheid is a bit weird since the Soviet Union would have been more likely to introduce those sanctions as their population is not as racist as the American one and apartheid contradicts the communist theory of equality.

You need to travel more and see what the world is really like. History remember is written by the victors. The biggest threat to the world still exist. And is quite simple. And all sides have this problem. ( Greed)

Whatifalthist can just perfectly feel how the world will change. He can just perfectly estimate how something will happen, culturally, diplomatically, militairily. Keep doing the good work!

Just go and make the USSR not march to heavy industry while sacrificing everything else. Then it would drag on.
Also, please know what you are talking about.
