Mexico City. The Future. When memories of a forgotten love, a forgotten life, start to come back to him, the fabric of Ben's reality begins to tear. Sundays by Mischa Rozema Connect with the Filmmakers: More About Sundays: The end of the world seems like a nightmare to Ben. A memory of a past life that doesn't belong to him. Seems lot of viewers don't understand what's going on.
The memories of the dead are being uploaded. The upload of the main character halts at 47% for some reason (08: 46. It also appears that memories are being fed false information, such as their love for this woman (they are all fed with the same lie. But the failed memory upload begins to see what this (virtual) world truly is: anomalies in terms of behavior and shape of things.
However, the dystopian undertone of the evil corporation has not been explained. Their purpose, the abduction of his faux girlfriend, evil looking guards. Was the solar storm even real Everything is ambiguous. After all, this was merely a proof of concept back then aimed at executives primarily, Providing answers was not their goal. The SS symbol of the evil corporation is to please the executives. We all know what community holds these positions and this is their way to signal compliance.
This is the truth of how these things go down. Eventually nothing came of this. it has nothing to do with this proof of concept, but internal politics and strategic questions that arise such as: who's going to direct this, in what shape is merchandise optimized, who has the right pitch to whom And so forth. The decision taking process has nothing to do with quality or popularity among us mere mortals.

Some of the philosophical concept was opposite to the final destination regarding postulations of the juxtaposition between which reality is the real reality - our concept of dream or the nefarious realm of waking state. So, it is something along the lines that the only real thing is the dream - and the world is just an illusion, but the dream IS the world. no matter which is real, and which is dream it is all world - being aware does not make one wise - only wise that he is aware. I say well done and more could be added. it is a no beginning and no ending thing.

What if that acid I just dropped has no effect. No, there it goes. But seriously, I don't know what it means, but it was thought provoking and full of powerful imagery and themes that were compelling enough that I didn't lose interest. I was hoping for an answer. But I'm not really disappointed that there isn't one. The journey is the adventure. Mission accomplished I think. This was very well paced and well put together. Whoever did the music and narration were excellent. It's hard to do something like this and make it work. This works. Databyter

Wow, it's incredibly difficult to say you made the worst short on DUST because there's so many horrible films on here, but I think you actually did it! It absolutely made no sense. The creator didn't even try to explain it. Sure it looked nice visually (which should be expected, but it's like they had no idea of what story they wanted so they threw some neat graphics on a screen and hoped you wouldn't notice they didn't have a story. Really, really bad, which is probably why less than 4% of the viewers gave it a thumbs up.

Absolutely Wov! The proper philosophical depth even touching the core questions of Physics and religion, but it still ties the loftiness to the main character and the common human predicament of existence manifesting in everybody's Sundays. Expressive acting, intriguing unpredictable narration and a script that is perfectly true to the reality of its premise. Then well done CGI to illustrate the fakeness of reality not to simply show off. This is the best I've ever seen on Dust. I mean ever!

What if a narrator asks the audience What if a thousand times What if a story lacks character development, dialogue, and has only a vague shadow of a plot What if it compensated for the lack of those things with gorgeous cinematography and high quality visual effects What if a short film could be simultaneously profound and pointless
reply

It is a simple question.
What is reality
Is this the only reality.
Is it layered
Are there multiple lines.
What is real
Do we make the reality
This was a cinematic journey
into the known unknown.
The layers are before us.
Realize.
Reality.
Unreal.
Real

I get the artistic look in the film, but the main character has no mission, we don't understand what's what and who's going where. I feel like sometime those who make art like films and such really need to stick to not doing sci-fi. A on the effects, a shame it went to waste on the script.
reply

Yeah, films are supposed to have a STORY. This was more an advert for a dystopian perfume or a smartwatch that's clamped to your wrist and can never be removed.
Beautiful visual effects, but no plot at all. Even 5 minutes long it got boring.

The thesis at the beginning of that film What you can imagine depends on what you know shows a kind of arrogancy. Imagination can be influenced by knowledge, but is not depending on it! The author suffers clearly on a lag of imagination.
reply

Ok, we have 8 million dollars to make this short film. Hmmmm, Let's spend 7, 999, 985 dollars on the special effects and the rest on a script. The actors have all decided to work for free, so cool, we saved some money there.

New age is so dumb. Here we are appreciating the universe and it’s reliability, whilst discounting the I am that made the void itself, and set in place its parameters.
But talk about stuck in a matrix whew

reply

Very trippy on the visual aspect. Plenty of room to expand the concept. Not much of a story although, I'd guess this is just the base for a larger production.
Definitely would like to see more.

Thumbs down --- it drools on and on - slowly - without a point - just someone's thoughts - which are no better than any one else's thoughts - and thus a waste of time.

Our world is not powered by oil or money or dreams or god.
Our world is run on trust. Ben Midlake
The most profound words I've hear in recent times.

Fortunately this is not a possible or even probable event any more! Pay attention to trapping narratives of those who wants to keep humanity in slavery

What is the difference between George Orwell's novel, 1984 and this short film Other than the movement of time, nothing. Not exactly original.
reply

Visual effect was great but story and story telling left me totally confused. Still have no idea what’s going on and it ended

Armageddon meets Day after Tomorrow meets Matrix.
Dislike. I like all three movies, individually. Not combined in a short

reply

Nope. Don’t get it. And I do a lot of shrooms.
10/18/2022 gave it a second look. Still very abstract but thumbs up nonetheless.

Really disappointing. Starts with goofy Sun crackling like a wood fire. Then it gets worse. Play on double speed or skip.

Whispery voice: What if I had chosen to do something constructive instead of watching this for 13 minutes and 7 seconds
reply

I tried to be patient but this was just too pretentious. It kept pretending like it was saying something but it was all nonsense.

I believe the world be better if we began depopulation. Not by means of war. With truthful statistics concerning earths resources

DUST is the best of all the movie makers and the first ones, Their first and best was FTL ( faster than light) must see,

If you keep leaving the ending up to imagination then what good is the movie. there must be something or make a part 1-3
reply

Dig the visuals but the what if, what if, what if monologue could’ve been written by a 5yo. Still a cool watch
reply

I dislike this. I'm depressed enough without this disjointed, surreal, garbage that poses as entertainment.
reply

Didn't enjoy the advertisements. For such a short clip, it really destroys the feeling.
reply

That’s what I’m talking about. Exactly. We don’t see the true reality around us.
reply

Impressive piece of art and looks like a 100 million dollar production. Crngrats to the makers
reply

Neat visuals. Not sure what the plot was, or if there was a plot, but it looked cool.
reply

Pretty grim world portrayed in this one, gritty to say the leastgood though
