10 Confusing Yet Mind Blowing Levels in Video Games okcali: Control is one of the best games ive seen this decade. There are games like RE2 remake, i have issues with it but I wouldn't change a thing. Games like control, are masterpieces; a different category from RE2 remake type games. But it is very difficult to create a masterpiece that hits every single area as hard as control does. Most masterpieces hit that level with a stand out focus. Control just does it all and it does it better. Antichamber is a great example of a masterpiece with singular focus. I'm glad you bring it up.

Everyone else already noted that the entirety of Control is not a lot behind the Ashtray Maze on this list. When you said Dream Logic on the 9th entry I immediately thought Sunset Motel from Control.
But I would also add the Stilton Mannor from Dishonored 2 to the list. The Clockwork Mansion is certainly #1 from that game but the Stilton Mannor is a close second, requiring you to shift back and fourth between the present and past to affect the future. There is an outcome (spoilers, sorry) where you can completely change the Dust District to a happy, hopeful one where the workers are treated fairly and there are no more dust storms, so it makes a pretty big impact on the world.

I d love to kick it with Flacon Someone who s throwing out words like non-Euclidean, and talking about M. C Escher paintings is my kinda guy. I See you Flacon. I see you.
Oh, I was kinda surprised American Mcgee s Alice didn t make it onto this list. Also, The Myst games definitely were basically the first games that introduced some mind-bending landscapes and areas, that still hold a place in my heart today. Would LOVE a video about the MYST series as a whole!

What's more confusing is that at the very start of the game Control: you're told to find a way to the basement/some lower floor to get the power on or retrieve something. You are told that you can't take the elevator because it doesn't work. Days later (in my case) - you find out that the only way to progress is to take the elevator - what they told you didn't work. This was by far the most confusing, annoying, dumbest, disorienting, backwards moment of the game.

Number 7.
When I played Dishonored 2 for the 1st time I knew nothing of it, I went into the game 100% blind, and I didn't even have played the 1st game of the series back then.
I'm still looking for my jaw since when I reached the Clockwork Mansion's level, when it fell from my face never to be found again.
Thanks for your videos!

Look at these Mode 7 graphics is what you might say if you're old.
I hate that that exact thought went through my head when I was watching that clip, and I got called out so perfectly. I guess Nintendo did a good job advertising that feature back in the day, that it still lives rent-free in my head today.

One that got me and maybe not as cool or confusing as the others on this list is call of duty black ops cold wars break on through level from getting weird hallucinations and constantly changing environments to finding zombies in a cave and piecing together your own backstory and how you got there

I love Control, it's one of my favorite recent games, and is definitely up there with favorite games of all time. I don't think the Ashtray Maze was just the most awesome moment in Control (which it is IMO, it's one of the most awesome moments in all of gaming! It's just so badass!

I certainly felt the WHOLE of Prey 2006 was so mind-blowing because so few games prior to that had done something similar. It's a shame we never got Prey 2. I have nothing against Prey 2017, but if they won't give us Prey 2, then at least do a Prey 2006 remake.

I immediately thought about Escher when you started talking about DMC, then you mentioned him. Also big up for the Control love, the Ashtray Maze is my favourite level I've ever played and feels like a perfect climax to all the Control madness.

Honorable mention to that one Catacomb in Elden Ring. you know the one. I think you guys brought it up in a previous video, but that level is a modern standout to me, regarding subverting my expectations and confusing the absolute hell out of me.

Was expecting to see Pitios Ruins from ff15. Excellent level, divided in parts equally frustrating and amazing with its environmental story-telling and finding items in key locations on the statues' props. Two hours well spent in there.

Gotta love some OG psychnauts references, the milkman level was totally mind blowing when I first played it. That was when I realized that video games could actually transport you mentally into a different head space (pun kind of intended.

Controls maze doesn t belong on this list. Perhaps controls first levels since it takes a while to get used to the map. The maze should be on a best moments in gaming though. I died intentionally just to spend more time in this area.

Control is an excellent game. I think honourable mentions here could go to the Effect & Cause level from Titanfall 2 and the Distorted Dimensions level from Path of Neo (although admittedly this is as much annoying as it is confusing.
