10 EVIL Villains in Video Games that Went TOO FAR jojo: I nominate Krelian, scheming wars between continents at the backrgound, then release virus which mutate humans into flesh eating monsters (in agonizing way, then imbued them with calling to come at scared place only to dissect their bodies, cell by cell, to merge and create a super monster, all while claiming to join god in higher wave. In the end, even his end conversation resonate in real life, things like our incapability of truly understanding others and we simply set comfortable boundaries with each others, points of living as we simply grinding each other to inevitably die and return to dust, and absence of our free will since it might be pre determined

A villain people tend to forget which I still hold as one of the greatest game villain ever is Kane from Command and Conquer series. He has destroyed an entire planet using a deadly crystal named Tiberium that spreads rapidly across the world(if one don't count one of the endings where as he nukes the entire planet with it)
Also manipulated leaders throughout our timeline like Stalin.
All this. while still being a charismatic leader that his followers and even poor people actually still love and sees as a hero.

Don t forget Yu Yevon in FFX. Just because he losing a war against technology, he used himself and his wife to be a monster to destroy Spira. His daughter was the one who ended his armor the first time by using her husband. Then he made her husband the new armor. Then for a thousand years, he destroy cities and villages just to make sure the population doesn t get too big and technology doesn t advance anymore. Thousand years of killing people

SHODAN needs more love. In System Shock, she got the player to almost give her a space base. In SS2, she almost got the player to give her the universe while putting down a rebellion of her children. Even at the end, she pulled a tease for the non-existent next chapter by possessing one of the last three survivors before killing her lover.
If you think SkyNet is scary, she makes it look like a cheap IBM.

farcry 3 and 4 were some fantastic rpgs, just enough in the world to make it fun to explore while also making it feel meaningful. I actually enjoyed Pagan Min more than I enjoyed Vaas but i think thats because he had more screentime and his story came full circle with the decisions the player makes. Great story, great gameplay, rewarding, fun, and compelling.

I d say Ted Faro from Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West should be on this list. He lead the entire world and all life to being wiped out, destroyed all human knowledge that was to help the next generation to grow and flourish then tried to become immortal to be the god of those people a thousand years later.

If you looked past Ubisoft being afraid to offend a single individual, Joseph Seed was far better than Vaas. You could feel his insanity just before Ubi would block it.
If you let yourself delve completely into a game you can always see what the writers wanted to say, behind what the execs forced them to say.

Have you ever felt the curse? With your whole being, the pox upon life itself. Feared and despised by all. The Reviled blessing. Apparently not. You are but a lamb. A stranger to defilement. Ignorant to your own ignorance. You no longer interest me. I've been long without peace. Don't spoil my quietude.

The Dung Eater s doesn't actually eat dung. His name and methods of killing might be inspired by an ancient Japanese myth; it was once believed that a person s soul was contained within a special organ located in the anus. Demons would tear this organ out of their victims in order to steal their souls.

Perhaps you should not only look at mainstream games, but also other, older titles. There are plenty of more messed up villains, like Namtar from Dragon Wars or Sheltem from the Might & Magic franchise, who is responsibly for the events of the five first games.

it really bothers me how people give team ninja such regard yet mention games like heavenly sword, enslaved, hellblade, and dmc as being some sort of one off. if they weren't good, you wouldn't bring them up. don't spit on team ninja. they basically do no wrong.

Reapers (and Illusive Man) in Mass Effect should be here. Harvesting entire civilizations, huskification, brainwashing, turning people into doing their will without them ever realizing it. They basically turned an entire galaxy into their farmland

I recently replayed far cry 3 and what really speaks volumes about how good Vaas is as a villain is the fact that I'm always surprised by how little he is in the game, he's so impactful that i seem to remember him being everywhere all the time.

People say The Joker lives in Batman's head because of the magic) blood transfusion. I just figured Bruce knew the Joker so well that he'd know what he'd say and do in certain situations.
And I think that makes it all the more effed up.
