10 Games That CHANGE With Unlockable Difficulty Modes Chris: Not gonna lie. pretty disappointed that 007 Golden Eye isn't on this list! The way it adds more objectives for the player to complete instead of just making all the enemies take more/do more damage I feel is really underappreciated. Plus it really fits into the idea of being 007. I think adding more objectives totally changes the way the player has to approach the second playthrough. I vote it makes it to part 2: ) haha

Nioh. Which in general doesnt get enough love. But things change on every new game. New game plus is different to new game plus plus which is different to plus x3 etc. Its basically 5 different games with every new game plus mode. Different weapons and weapon modifiers same with armour and spirit levels. You can also unlock the ability to use two spirit's as its normally jusy one, enemy layout changes, enemies you encounter, enemy weapons and attack patterns. Skill cap changes every new game you get too. Then it even changes again if you manage to max your stats as you then unlock focus levels. There is even different items that are only available in later new games

I d like to find more games where the hard level or new game plus is focussed on new areas or secrets or approaches (like, must be done on stealth or some access points are destroyed from the original playthrough but now you d have endgame climbing skills, or you have to escort more people at a time through the zombie mall, I dunno) or new story segments, rather than the challenge being harder combat and and tougher enemies. I know there are games are out there like that, I just need to find more of em.

I know it wasn't going to be on the list.
But Dead Cells is the absolute king of this topic. Six modes of difficulty each unlocked by completing the previous difficulty. Each mode introduces new enemies and mechanics. Power ups/costumes that can only be unlocked on harder difficulty. Cherry on top, on the toughest difficulty there is a new stage and ending, good luck getting there though, got to it once for my butt to be wooped: )

Sekiro shadows die twice. to unlock hardest difficulty (no kuro charm, which is basically no blocking only deflecting on time of the hit) you need to beat the game at least once, and it makes the game brutally much more difficult. Defening yourself one second before the hit lands on you removes health as if you were hit (enjoy dying)

arkham knight should only be played on nightmare. its rlly not that hard and it looks so cool not seeing the counter icons and just having to read the enemies. u feel like a badass and it looks more cinematic. I HATE that its a new game+ specific mode I would always play on it its like how the game was meant to be played it feels

Hi people at Gameranx. By any small chance that you see this, i just have a small request. When you show the number count on your list, it's bright white light hurts a lil for someone who watches you right before bed. Still enjoy your vids either way, but would really appreciate a less brighter background for them. Thanks

Doesn t quite fit this list but hard mode in FF7 remake is quite different to normal mode, can t use any items and you actually have to pay attention to weaknesses and fight mechanics. It was kind of like, ok you finished the story now let s play the game. Not quite as major as any of these tho imo

Should have mentioned that in Max Payne 2 if you beat the game on the hardest setting you actually get the best ending. I played it again in that mode just because I loved the game so much but it was very rewarding to actually be surprised by the better ending you get.

Rockstar is the biggest lost potential of an developed studios I've seen. They are sitting on Max Pain, Midnight Club, and Bully IP. With their only focus being GTA6, smh. Gaming is becoming too repetitive. Even Elden Ring is repetitive FromSoft game layout.

Great game line-up! Dead Space NG+. Horrifying. I'm not sure why that game gets to me more than the others but I've nearly soiled myself several times playing it -- the dev did a great job changing things up and you just never know what to expect.

Dark Souls 2 SotFS is another great example of NG+ going above and beyond. So much so that it made the newer FromSoftware games disappointing. Only when talking about NG+ though, the newer games are better in every other way, imo.

These are nice but making the enemies smarter has always been my favorite change. Simply changing strength, speed, and quantity of enemies is lazy and really just tests how well a player can cheese a game instead of improving their skill.

Pain Mode on Lisa the Painful is my favorite. Limited saves, more powerful mutants, and changes several major enemies and bosses into completely different mutants that are way more dangerous. Plus bonus content and ending for beating it
