Plenty of people will probably come to dunk on me for this, because this is the internet, but I'm feeling super down about Xbox. MS was thoroughly and brutally destroyed during the XB1 vs PS4 era because of the decisions they made, and they're still feeling it now. They may have rebounded slightly by focusing more on games instead of making the xbox the multimedia machine they once touted it as. Whoever was in charge at the time, probably Phil Spencer, made the decisions that caused Xbox to take a massive nosedive. At the time, it made sense if you think about it. At that time in 2013 and 14, online games and playing with hundreds of other players in multiplayer matches were basically the only things people wanted to do, especially in the sports genre. Single player was an afterthought in the minds of Xbox. Multiplayer was and still is where the money is. Now, with the failings left and right of live-service games, people want intimate singleplayer experiences. Playstation is offering that in spades, and while Xbox does offer it, they are far more sparing about it, it feels like. Whoever is at MS that sees this happening for Xbox fans and wants the console to make a comeback, they need to follow in the footsteps of Nintendo and Sony. Basically adopt what practices they do in company acquisitions and job security, and maybe they will make a game that puts Xbox back on the path to being a leader in games, and not coming last in the race.

Server browsers were the shit. Because of them, I met some of the best friends I've ever had to this day, even 17 years later.
Happened to join a clan server on Sven-Coop, an entmod server (basically primordial Garry's Mod. You often had to earn ent privileges on those servers, so my master plan was to note who was part of their clan. Once he left, I changed my display name to that guy's, clan tag and all, and pretended my ent privileges just weren't working.
They went ahead and reinstated them, but little did I know they knew I wasn't him, because they saw my SteamID was different. They just wanted to see what I'd do with it.
We had a great few hours hanging out before they confronted me on being an imposter, which I fessed up, but they let me stay. We had a great few years hanging out together after that, playing on that server and chatting on XFire.
Over time, life just got complicated and we lost contact bit by bit. I've really wished I could figure out how to regain contact and see how all those guys were doing though.
But none of that would've been possible if automatic matching had been the default.

This is going to sound crazy but I can’t help feeling like the best way to get Halo back on track would be a game that isn’t about Master Chief. Give us a new perspective. Maybe a different Spartan or do something crazy like make it about a marine, or even follow one of the other major factions and show the darker side of the UNSC.
You don’t have to scrap Master Chief entirely. You could have him as a supporting character, maybe make a story about him becoming a mentor to the new protagonist. I just feel like moving away from him might be the best way to bring something new to the series.

I think the real tragedy is the fading single player games. So many want to just follow a forced multiplayer experience that they forget how to make a good quality single player game.
I think it's why Fromsoft really hits it out of the park with their games. People miss the experiences that they find on their own as they adventure through the game. Yes, there's co op, but it's OPTIONAL.
I can't think of any other developers that solely focus on single player adventures that have great game play these days. There's aren't too many imo but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Red Dead Online is 80 times better than GTA online. You DON'T get another Western simulator anywhere, let alone one as excellent and polished as RDO's and RDR2's in general, but tons of other games with automatic weapons, rocket launchers and fast cars. It is indeed a damn shame.
By the way, even with no support, it's pretty amazing, they had added a lot of stuff to do and progress since the launch of RDO, I was surprised when I jumped in again recently.

I should put the sad state of PS5 that is costing PlayStation’s reputation. Jim Ryan and his ego driven decisions, telling gamers that live-service games are the future (cough Concord, PlayStation Plus and their BS price increase, weak monthly games, trying to be a poor man’s version of Game Pass, lack of first-party games, the Helldivers II PC controversy. I’d lost faith on the PS5 and it’s definitely not going to play catch-up against the PS4.

I don't know what you were talking about at 21: 47 - The Dreamcast price was too high The PS2 was cheaper What
The PS2 launched at $299, while at the same time the DC was half that price - $149 (it launched at $199, but got a $50 price cut pre-PS2 launch. Then by just February 2001, Dreamcast was priced at $100 brand new!
I'm not sure why you thought it was too expensive or that the PS2 was cheaper, but that definitely wasn't the case.

Mobile gamers - Not paying 30$ for a full resident evil game because to expensive
Also mobile gamers - Spending 10$ to upgrade their tier 1 base into a tier 2 base, spending 15$ on skins to make their level 1 troops look cool, spending 20$ to upgrade all of their tier 1 troops to tier 2, spending 300$ on 3000 gems to buy future season passes and to purchase the new unlockable collection event level that only costs 1500 coins.

For one of the items on the list, I know you are trying to stay neutral on the subject but Gamergate 2 and the backlash against games that put political things first and then try to build a game around it also caused a lot of layoffs. SBI sold a lot of companies false gold and people are finally realizing it. A lot of companies are actually firing all the DEI departments as they are feeling the backlash.

Competition makes the industry stronger is the biggest lie told in gaming. The PS2 is widely known as the best console ever and it had zero competition on its part of the market. Having no competition means game devs don’t need to work on multiple ports and can spend more time actually improving their game. Xbox exiting the console market could be the best thing to happen to the gaming industry.

1 YLOD and RROD
2 Konami and Kojima: (
3 the lack of costumer support/ loyalty for the seventh generation - we bought those games online they should be ours forever
4 media blaming video games for RL violence instead deep diving into the real reasons why
5 micro-transactions / paywalls / season passes ect - bring back the days when the whole game was on the cartridge or disc

Another thing from XBox One that created a huge outrage at least within the military community was always having to be connected to the internet to use it. Many troops were taking an xbox with them on deployments for a way to decompress and when asked about this someone from xbox had said that there was another console (xbox 360) that they could use without the internet.

first one hits home, PS2 was the first console i played but it was a family machine, but the Xbox 360 was the first console that was mine. so many good memory's attached to the Xbox name its horrible how management completely screwed it up, but im glad i switched to PlayStation and PC during the Xbox one and PS4 generation, because of how badly they've handle everything.

Victim of Microsoft layoffs here. crazy part is that the reasoning for the layoffs I got caught up in were things that we had been screaming about for years. Pitiful upper management chasing dragons in the hopes of landing a windfall rather than focusing on a viable, valuable product. Most of them got to keep their jobs though, so that was nice.

The past couple years I've read various articles and heard conversations speculating that the next gen of ALL consoles could be the last of them, and everyone (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, etc) replacing consoles with just apps where you'd pay a subscription (similar to Game Pass) from there on out and that that could be the future of gaming altogether.

A bonus as of a couple days ago, the SAG-AFTRA video game strike of 2024. All Im going to say is, the talent should what they ask for. Im not trying to stir one side or another. This is sad news for the gamers for the here and now, but a good thing for the gamers and talent overall because now they'll get what they request hopefully soon.

My favorite lowpoint was Trip Hawkins leaving EA and still being around to see his Electronic Artists brand, a company that valued programmers and wanted them to get crsdited, turn into EA, a company focused on offering lootboxes and selling the same brand over and over with little innovation.
And yes, EA made amazing games once

I miss old MP communities that actually talk too bad they sanitized everything and literally made laws in some countries that will put you in prison over literally talking shit like its not just gaming its the sad pathetic world we got now
Plus banning people for talking shit should've never been a thing

physical media requires upkeep, hardware replacements, and even converters (i. e. there's no HDMI on a N64. not to mention physical can become unusable due to damages. in my opinion, digital media's advantages far outweigh physical, but ownership and other factors make it scary (i. e. shutting down the XBOX360 store.
