Nintendo is not really known for future proofing their consoles from the 90's and even now. The only thing they really have is the exclusivity of their games and the power to shut down every little man trying to run their games on anything else and hacking their consoles. so that they can keep selling and reselling at a high price over and over again. Nintendo is the Disney of the Console world. trying to hog IPs and not sharing them with anyone, make merch out of eveything, sue anyone that try to imitate their property and yet they can't even upgrade or overclock the chip of Nintendo Oled release. And they were sticking with the cartridge system until the gamecube in 2001, where the ps2 already have a year headstart. and not even the full regular disc on that gamecube. and now their back to cartridges, smaller. .

We had a story like this in our unreal tournament 2004 clan. There was one guy being a major jerk so my friend dueled him and the guy lost and immediately left the game and we didn't see him again. Several months later a new guy starts hanging around our server and he's nice and we start getting to know him like anyone else who had played with us and joined the clan over time. This dude joins the clan and we get along great until like a year later he revealed he was the guy we exiled from the clan previously. He never sabotaged us but it was crazy the long play this guy had gone to slowly regain our trust, get back in the clan, then make this grand reveal.

The Infitiny Ward-Avtivision thing makes me think of that series of episodes in House where that really insufferable guy kept trying to fire House just because he wouldnt bend the knee. There were a few /good/ reasons for firing him, but he didnt like that he didnt couch his words and kowtow when he walked down the hall, so he was looking for ways to make his life miserable. As if being rich means youre always right.
Doesnt mean youre always wrong, obv, be ause youre a human being, but as a human being you need to understand that going around dick swatting people because you have the big bucks isnt going to end well.

I don't see the Corrupted Blood incident as a betrayal- in fact I was thrilled to be a part of it. It was an unprecedented, unpredicted event that was so iconic it was studied by researchers to apply knowledge to possible future disease outbreaks in real life. I also don't see Square leaving Nintendo as a betrayal. Nintendo was hobbling their ability to push their artform forward. they did what needed to be done not only for that art form, but for their business as a whole. In hindsight it was absolutely the smart decision =)

Yes, I remember being surprised and disappointed when Squaresoft left Nintendo and ff7 released on the PS1.
I had a N64 and was really happy with Mario 64. I saw the screen shots of FF6 characters in 3D and got really excited. Then I saw FF7 and was blown away with how good it looked.
It also made JRPGs mainstream and whereas before no one in my school had heard of Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger etc, after FF7 everyone was talking about it. I saved up and got a PS1 as soon as possible.

I just want to add that WoW's Corrupted Blood outbreak happened in 2 phases. The one in the video is the 2nd phase. The first was a genuine bug, which Blizzard fixed by preventing the Corrupted Blood effect from leaving the Raid instance. However, it was after that that someone learned that dismissing their pet while they had the debuff, then summoning them again outside the instance would keep the debuff on them, thus allowing it to spread, again.

If we want to discuss the greatest betrayals in video game history I think we need to start with the launch of Cyberpunk. Then there's Fallout 76 and who can forget Bethesda's latest stab in the back, the Fallout 4 'nextgen' update and of course we can't leave Starfield off the list either it was 25 years in the making, Halo at least deserves an honorable mention and perhaps the greatest betrayal of all time. Mass Effect Andromeda.

I'm sorry but if you hold a memorial ceremony for a lost guild member on a pvp map, you make sure you have sufficient backup to protect the ceremony.
And this is probably the most nerd thing I have ever said, written or thought.
But that's how my clan did it in the mmorpg I was top 5 for 3 years in 2008.
You do not just hope that everything will work out fine. You show up armed and ready.

I'm thankful for FFXIV, you can't get an event like the corrupted blood event to happen. Almost all Raid Debuffs are specific to the raid, and attempting to contract them outside of the raid won't work. It was confirmed when Ultimates came out by dataminers that certain skills and animations could literally not play unless you were in the specific Ultimate Raid instance on the duty server.

The World of Warcraft disease spreading was done unintentionally by a hunter, pets dismiss when you walk through a mage portal (or they used to back then) and the pet was resummoned in the city. Now after the first time it happened, people did it intentionally but the first one was accidental. (P. S. there is no hibernating state for pets in wow, you just dismiss them and resummon them)

Biggest betreyal for me is my brain thinking a game was good because of nostalgia.
Harry Potter the goblets of fire.
Marvel ultimate Alliance.
Still love Donkey Kong 64 but the 100% is not what I remembered.
But some I still love and replay them to this day like
Digimon World 4 still 1 of my fav game of all time
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Medal of Honor Frontline

With Nintendo vs Square it is funny you make the who betrayed who joke, because there is more to the story most people forget: early on N64 was going to be CD based. The specs provided to Square included a CDROM for storage. Late in the hardware development Nintendo decided to switch back to cartridges, citing concerns over the physical durability of CDs in the hands of children.

I wonder if #5 is why Sony just doesn't play with Xbox and Nintendo at all STILL. Example they were, and still often are, the last hold outs for allowing cross play/progression.
It was said at the time that Sony wasn't playing ball because they were/are the biggest console so they felt they didn't have to. I wonder if old moldy sour grapes were involved too.

If I remember TinyViolin did that because the players in his guild, which he helped created and get to where it was, were abusing their power to get the better drops, Tiny wasn't about that and decided to teach them all an unforgettable lesson, by destroying the entire upper brass of the guild in one fell swoop. Also his character was one of the two that survived.

I can't help but think Square left Nintendo because of the Phillips deal that got Sony making the Playstation. The CD addon seemed exciting and worth experimenting with, but sticking with cartridges felt like a final nail in the coffin for Square, and made them ask why they should stay when Nintendo wasn't doing enough to help the software side of things.

When my mom decided that I wasn't really using my NES, and let my dad's friends kids have it for a while. It never came back. She did it again with my PS1 and gave it to my cousin across the country. She did terrible things like a lot (and no we weren't well off at all, we were lower middle class with a single mom) Childhood trauma all around.

Probably not in the subject of the video, but in Jedi Survivor you have this hype built up around a Jedi trying to find a new world.
(Spoilers)
You then find him, badly wounded. Betrayed by his own high republic, he turns bad. Even bleeds his crystal.
You then have Bode who betrays Cal for no real apperant reason except to gain power.

As from someone who'd worked for more than 10 years in the corpo industry: What Activision did to their CoD founders is sadly nothing new at all. They tend to do this a lot as long as they can find some excuses to rack the money for themselves and cut off the ones (even if they are the reason for the cash in) that doesn't benefit them anymore.
