What's going on with her mouth in Forspoken Does she have a hockey puck in it Also, seems like multiple MCs became Marvel/MCU characters. They all became quippy, but kinda bland and interchangable. Funny thing is, it works kinda well in DC, mainly with Flash, Green Arrow, and Green Lantern. but NOBODY ELSE really. (Even Billy Batson/Shazam feels like a different kind of humor, imo) However, it works so well because they have Batman and even Superman and Wonder Woman (and Aquaman sometimes) or Martian Manhunter to work off of. Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of the sidekicks are also often like that. But notice the adults mostly aren't (I guess when Dick Grayson grows up and becomes Nightwing he still mostly is) Also, Marvel COMICS seems to MOSTLY have Spider-Man do it, and virtually NO ONE ELSE to that extent. And that clearly works, too. It's crazy they're oversaturating everything with it.
Also, there's actually a fair bit to Aiden Pearce. I watched a video about it recently, and I think it's just overlooked because iirc all the depth was in the audio logs and stuff NOBODY paid attention to lol. Which, I mean, that's ALSO how almost EVERY Hitman except Absolution was made, and yet that's the black sheep. (actually, funnily enough, I remember filling out a survey and saying the 1 thing I thought was good about Absolution was more of the story being presented straight-forwardly, and I suggested they do a bit more of that in the future, but with extra details to be found through exploration, which is seems like they did) Anyway, it clearly didn't work for Watch Dogs. People treated it more like GTA and probably didn't realize there WAS extra depth, nor would they care if they HAD realized.

Aiden Peirce is an amazing character, he's tons better than all the main characters in 2 except for wrench the only really good character in 2, and he is a really well written and thought out character, the fact you think he was lazily written means you do not understand the character or story of the game there's a reason Him and Wrench are the only two who made it as playable characters in legion, because they were the only two worth bringing back, Aiden's character is exactly what it is meant to be a grieving, angry, paranoid, man on a path of vengeance, he has no time for fun and games or joking around, and trying to be cool Aiden's fit is cool, love the flowing trench coat, and in all honesty makes sense not to conspicuous, and and a mask and hat to hide your face when need be

Every Marvel protagonist have the same personality, and every AAA game protagonist for the last 15 yeas have that same personality, it's annoying. That's why I prefer silent protagonists. If devs can write good and varied characters like Hironobu Sakaguchi used to up until FFVII, then just make it silent. About why modern western indie games have such annoying protagonists with vacuous writing and meaningless thinking, I blame the hipsters believed that fallacy that says games are art. Games are games, they have more in common with the Manchester United or Dennis Rodman than with Picasso o Juan Rulfo.

I think you kind of miss the point of Atomic Hearts protagonist, he is supposed to be that way. I think he was raised in the soviet utopia where things were regimented and supposed to be perfect, there was probably a lot of censorship so Crispy critters was probably all he could get away with and if you keep in mind he was brain washed the whole time is constantly upbeat attitude makes sense, he was just supposed to be the perfect agent, why make him sad He carries out his mission without complaint and is supposed to feel like someone who is a bit out of it.

I never got the appeal of Connor in Assassin’s Creed 3. He spokes in complete monotone and doesn’t have all that much going for him beyond being a wide-eyed idealist. If anything the game’s actually a lot more engaging during the section where you play as antagonist Haytham Kenway.
Same with Shay Cormac in Rogue. He felt like he was an arrogant jerk who never listened to his fellow assassins when they gave him advice and is just like oh why don’t they like me Maybe it’s because you’re so dismissive of everyone you bastard!

Joss Wheadon's a dime bag as a human, but he's also done stuff like Firefly. He's not the second coming of Shakespeare but he's far from the bottom of the barrel. Anime based anything, on the other hand, is crap. I've tried for almost 30 years to get into anime. My best friend is an anime freak. I just can't. It's soooooo dumb I can't take it. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't care. I'm not wasting another second of my life on that weird and awful mostly pedo bear crap.

Honestly, I think it has just become trendy to dunk on Forspoken. It's really not that bad. It's just quippy, which some people like, and some people don't. It also comes across as late 90s and early 00s, which I'm fine with since I grew up on that. Regarding her references that no one in the fantasy world gets, that happens to me all the time. I left the States and live in Asia, so people often don't get my references, and I say them without thinking because they are ingrained in me.

Cody and Mary from It Takes Two should be on this list. It's a great game, but oh my god, my primary take away by the time I finished was that these two people should not be together. They spend 2/3 of the game just being total passive aggressively mean to each other, then suddenly get reconnected at the end Sorry, don't buy it. This could of been one of the GOATS if they'd been bold enough to have the character learn that, no, actually, they shouldn't be together.

I liked Aiden as a protagonist, and if you disliked his character that's fine, but you really misinterpreted his character according to your description of him.
Deacon from days gone, got similar criticisms about his character, the no nonsense, sometimes an asshole type of characters don't get much love in general.
Just a theory, if you take away Ellie from Joel, or Atreus from Kratos, but especially Joel, what type of character would he be

tbf Metallia is not the protagonist
she's a central character, yes. but is she the protagonist not really
the real protagonist, the dude we play as, is her summoned hundred knight
Metallia is at most, that one NPC that yaps nonstop, ordering us to go on our mission and such
btw, she is way less annoying in japanese version, both in her dialogue and voice. NIS america's localization issue as usual

Honestly I liked sergei from atomic heart. He hates machines, but is stuck to a glove that is very cold and acted like a know it all. Sergei is forced to be with it and has a part of his brain fried and loses his ability to control his mouth. Like a stroke patient.
He’s also simple, they lied that he’s there to be a specialist agent. He’s there because he can’t help but follow sechenov’s orders

I think the problem with Majo to Hyakkihei or the witch and the hundred knight, is the audiance, was the wrong market who received, sounds like every japanese work, but is really that, the game is bad in play movements, but is entretaining, maybe not a complex history or so, and metalia in JP voice sounds good, maybe. JP games has to be filter before release in US. US has a. refined taste.

Prototype 2 had the worst Protagonist in any game I've played. Enjoyed the game, the gameplay was great, my character was whiny and annoying. More evident when you meet up with the protagonist of the first game, Alex Mercer (I can't remember the name of the protagonist in the later game. They tried to make him tough and instead made him unlikeable and unrelatable.

This is what happens when insufferable people make their self insert character the main character. they think they're cool and quirky, but in reality they suck
Therefore the character ends up sucking. this is how you end up with games like Dustborn and Saints Row 2022. Lame people who don't know they are lame making self inserts.

Funny thing about Bubsy. He was given a personality in some comics that came with manual in the 2nd & possibly 1st game. For Bubsy 3D & the cartoon pilot, they completly scrapped it. He basically went from an akward uncle with a suitable voice & doesn't talk that much to an edgy teen with an ear-grating voice who never shuts up.

I would like to mention basically every character in Bulletstorm. The dialogue is so cheesy while trying to be offensively crude it's cringey. The game itself is great but I had to turn off the voices in the settings. It was bad when the game came out but I recently played it again and it aged worse than milk.

Based on the criteria in this video, Geralt Of Rivia probably should be an annoying protagonist. He makes quips, he's snarky, sarcastic, never takes anything seriously, etc. But for some magical reason it just works, and he's one of the greatest video game protagonists of all time.

I'm surprised anyone remembers Symphonia 2 lol Personally I enjoyed the game and didn't find Emil annoying but I'm surprised that Luke from Abyss wasn't mentioned being he's a snobby jerk for an entire THIRD of the game. That seems way worse than Emil for a couple hours lol

I never thought Tales of Symphonia 2 would ever get mentioned, by MY GOD that game was a disappointment. From the art style, to the combat, to how they treated the cast. That game doesn't exist, so far as I'm concerned. I wanted my money back after beating it.
