Our final day of shooting was for the big climax of Russell's short film (that was kept out of the downloadable script, so we couldn't show too much of the content that was shot on our last day. Instead, today's episode looks at the cast and crew, and examines what Russ, Kris, Tuck, and others hoped to accomplish with this short

I actually got a GH2 already, that's what I shot the interview segments with (I sold one of my t3i's to afford it, but as far as full-frame sensors go, I think if I was going to save up for one it would be the new Blackmagic 4k camera one day. What sold me on the gh2 though, was the hacks that improve the image quality and the fact that they shot Upstream Color on it. It's exactly the kind of quality I like to shoot in, so I don't feel the need to upgrade unless it's a BIG upgrade, lol.

YES please do more of these. I think you should definitely have another episode or two to go over some of the different questions mogulers have, or other details you didn't cover. I'm curious how to set up some of your scenes in terms of lighting, and what type of equipment you were dealing with. Did it belong to your DP? Were certain crew members compensated or was this all done for little to no money old school indie style? Very excited for more!

Hi Russ! This series is awesome, well Indy Mogul is awesome but I have one question.
Me and my friends are shooting short film. But the cameraman did a mistake. He shot the most important scene in 424p, everything else is in full HD. Should I put all 424p material in split screen effect or export full movie in 424p? I hope you understand my problem.
Keep rockin'! You're awesome!

Good for you, Russell. Is this your largest production in terms of budget, days worked, and crew? Did you think you'd be here at this point? Congratulations, man. I'd like to hear your opinions on how the on set experience felt during and after the fact personally. How did you feel being an indie filmmaker being able to do a larger project even on the indie scale.
reply

wow, you replied so fast! Yes, listening to the Friday 101 theme on his sound cloud now! I also noticed you are using the fancier studios camera rig which I also have because you suggested it a few months ago! It will be so cool in 30 years time when all the oscar nominated directors will ALL have learned how to make films from indy mogul! :D

Sorry my phone won't let me post this comment where it's supposed to go but. Holy donkey snot! They used an 85mm Rok in UC on the gh2! That's a crazy long crop man. You'd have to be standing pretty far away &/or extreme closeup stuff. Any chance you maybe know what some of the shots were that they used it on?

russell i love that you love your t3i and want to buy a gh2 or 3 but have you ever thought of moving up to a full frame 5d. or would that screw your lenses u have for a crop sensor. or just no desire to go to a full frame?
reply

Probably too early to tell but so far I love the new camera for its better quality alone. The Flow Motion hack is awesome and I'll probably do a piece on hacking the GH2 for better quality in the next month or two.

Next week we're going over the equipment used, but I love the idea of taking questions about it, and will probably add an open call for questions to the end of that episode!

Love it, thanks for the insight. Technical tutorials are always awesome, but to get a look into how people operate and create a synergy behind the scenes is so very important!

We used an 18-55mm lens with a wide-angle attachment to make it wider than usual, the Canon 50mm f1. 8 and, very briefly, the 28-135mm Canon lens

From one New Jerseyian and filmmaker to another, truly appreciate all the work to shed some light and experience on the set. You're awesome Russ

Well, I AM going to be there for a few days later this month. If only it were possible to produce a feature that fast, lol. Wait. maybe it is? :D

Hoping for late September, but whether it's done on time or gets pushed back, I'll make sure you guys get to see it when it's ready.

This was great! So helpful just kinda getting an idea of how to handle everything once your short is planed. Thanks for making this!
