How much does 30 seconds of news footage cost? Robbie: If you didn't know, the military offers free use of any footage they have shot that has been archived and a lot of times if it was sea footage maybe the navy or coast guard would have shot it. There are a couple of places to check, I'd start with DVIDSHUB. net. Or the national archive, everything we shoot goes right into public domain, and if they were good they will have both a news package and straight broll. It's not a perfect system but maybe you could save some money on future projects

For the credits, try only adding motion blur to the graphics behind the text. It might be that because the background is jerking, which is noticable, it makes the text also seem noticably jerky, so by fixing the look of the movement of the graphics, the text might look fine without any motion blur, and so you'll have no jerkyness, and still 100% readable text.

Last week I finished a project like this myself. It was about the capital city of the province i come from (Maastricht. I had the same problem with the end credits too (the strobe thing) but got a really good result when i rendered it as Quicktime - Photo JPEG - Quality: 90
I am looking forward to the film! Keep up the good work Griffin! :)

No doubt ITNsource (Independent Television News) offer good quality, and have you tried to see if the BBC offer news archive footage that can be downloaded? Perhaps they don't as they aren't a private company, but are financed indirectly by the UK taxpayer through the UK government.

I'm an aspiring filmmaker sophomore in high school currently enrolled in film classes. If you could help me out by viewing my last video, a little cinematic shot compilation, and possibly giving a like, I would really appreciate it. -Weaver Films

Given that the news industry is forever ripping off vision from all sources without paying a cent, it is a fair hide to charge so much for their own footage. I can understand a couple of hundred dollars - but $41. 00 a second is steep.

In After Effects you can selectively choose what parts are to render with motion blur. You absolutely don't want any motion blur on the text however the background elements and animation would be best suited to have motion blur rendered.

Have you ever considered moving from FCP to Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro also has dynamic link so you can edit VFX in after effects without having to render it out!

for the motion blue issue, you could blue the graphics, and leave the text unblurred, or blur them at different rates to make sure its legible AND looks smooth

Well, if you want to wait (around) 60 years the licenses on that footage will no longer be there and you can use it for free: D Save money xD

If the motion graphics are indeed in after effects you can just toggle motion blur on both the layer and the comp and then it's done: )

Yeah I won't be buying archived footage for my doco, I researched it earlier this year and just about died at the price!

Could you have had the handwriting people write each letter and then turn it into a font? It seems like that would save time!

do you have a pdf of releases you should have for video? what other stuff do you need to pay attention to with licensing?
reply

24fps on a 60hz display will always have some judder, which is most noticeable on credits. You sure that's not the issue?
reply

You can also make your money back by having your own 30 second stock footage from the material you shot for the film.
