Great video as always, and archive. org is still up and running, if not with more to play. Something to note about these games is that since a majority of them cannot be downloaded, and only played through the browser, it acts more like a demo or shareware version of said games. Your progress is not saved between browser sessions, although the HTML5 version of DOSBox technically supports it. The only way to feasibly complete a long game on archive. org is to keep the browser tab opened until you complete the game. As a result, I don't think license holders will try and take down their content from archive. org, as it is an easy way to try an old game before purchasing it on GOG. As GOG doesn't have trials or demos of old games. I believe it is actually beneficial to publishers of these old games, as they don't need to create demos or host a DOSBox of their own.

I was also curious when I read about this site, but the moment I found lots of Lucasfilm, Sierra etc games on there, I knew this is bound to get shut down soon. Even nowadays Nintendo bother to pester ROM sites to remove certain games or get cease&desist orders.
I get the idea of an online archive, but it has to be done legally, not just upload every abandonware game they can get their hands on and slap a DOSBox emulator interface on it. I can do that at home. It also seems like they didnt even test the games, I tried IJ: Fate of Atlantis and the music was all garbled nonsense, and Monkey Island 2 has the copy protection intact.

I wondered about the legal issues, ever since I heard of it. Archive. org isn't quite the same as a small abandonware site and, sure enough, quite many gaming sites, big and small, made articles about it.
I have some trouble with it. It seems that it loads the games forever and even when it seems to be finished, nothing is actually working. Sound is playing, but the screen itself switches between the game and the DosBox loading screen. Maybe it's a problem with my computer.
Issues with the site itself, it's quite a cool concept. But I still prefer to have the games on my computer instead of playing them in a browser.

Wow. I never knew that the Internet Archive had redid their website for the modern Internet. Hopefully I can download some of the games to one or a few floppies and play them on a physical system some time down the road.
Also, I can imagine that if they could get permission to license unsupported Windows versions, they could probably have some locked-down Windows (probably embedded versions for some versions) system images that would boot into the game, skipping the Program Manager or Explorer shells.

This may be slightly offtopic, maybe not, but does anyone know a website(s) where I can search for and find information on old PC games? For years I have been searching for information on four PC games from the 90s I played once and I have been looking for and asked on several sites and searched search engines like Google and no one has been able to help me and I don't know the names of the games, just some things that were in the games or how they looked.

Love Archive. org and am a big fan of its star archivist, Jason Scott. I have most of the DOS games I want already - I either bought them back during -the day- or picked them off abandons are sites years ago. What I would really be interested in seeing is browser compatible Amiga emulation as some of its games didn't make it over to glorious DOS. Also, better emulation of Windows 3. 0, 95 and 98 games is a must.

Stunts! That was the game I played a long time ago.
Maybe LGR knows; we got this computer a long time ago that had a file folder like interface. It played Stunts, SimCity, Hill Street Blues, and possibly others. No clue what the OS was, though.
PC itself had a rectangular box and a monitor that was normally angled about 30-45 degrees, but you could elevate the back so you could look straight on the monitor.

Hope people playing these games (and publishers seeing how many people are interested) leads to them opening up far more of their back catalogue to sites like GOG. com so that these games can be properly supported like they deserve. Hopefully if archive. org can't keep these games up they at least start/continue to stream the shareware versions of these games.

That looks pretty cool of what they're doing, although I like better play on a real emulator, I mean, no offense but, it's more easy to play at the old way, because, when you make the game go full screen, isn't very cool that the entire game screen fits into your monitor? That's something I really like, but of course, still, it's good of what they're doing.

I have some of these games on steam and they look just like the arcade, not 4 colors lol and sound like original too and everything works good. world wide score system and multi player world wide, I am rated 33 in the world on Millipede. these games are ok to test to see if you like but no competition to steam games. thumbs up for info though.
