My first Joystick was a sidewinder, I remember when we got a new PC that didn't have support for the old game ports we just sort of packed it away, I haven't seen it in years, hope we didn't throw it away, But yeah it was frigging awesome, I've no idea which model I had but it had analog thrust control and 3 thumb buttons, one of the thumb buttons was huge in comparison to the other 2 but it only moved the tiniest amount when you pressed it, maybe it was broken I don't know but it still worked games recolonised the input, I have a lot of fond memories playing the original -Crimson Skies- and -Star Lancer- with that joy stick, -Comanche 4- was good to. The side winder was dark grey with light grey buttons for those interested.

My first joystick was a quickshot (the mega drive connector) i still have it. I also have one of those 80s minimalist joysticks 2 buttons square base with a tiny joystick (i think its to a c64) I got it with a boxed Amiga 500+ it came with 5 boxes of floppies and a separate tape loader and cables and stuff. It cost me the entire KISS back catalogue (30 burnt cds, took ages to burn them all but worth the effort LOL. The guy I did them for had a huge KISS vinyl collection and just wanted them put on CD, so not piracy.
The same friend just told me his Amiga 500 was thrown away by his girlfriend, I was like noo but his boxed Amiga games are safe, he's giving me robocop, monkey island and a few others.

On the -Hawk- joystick: -NO ORDINARY JOYSTICK! -. Which is probably true in all its superior crappiness. That's one awesome and untruthful marketing dept.
I always hated the squishy analogue sticks after playing with the digital arcades with their microswitch goodness. But you had to have one for playing the flightsims and space games, so yeah. The long travel distance and evil -centering- on this stick is just beyond believe. No wonder the menus gave up on it.
Never earned a steering wheel unfortunately, so I had to stick with keys for the racing games. Never used the joystick for those, although mine certainly was better and less squishy (you actually could see it as a workout.

The first joystick I ever used was a basic PC Line joystick, which was PC World's in house brand back before like 2010 or so. We still have it and it still works just fine even on modern windows. Three buttons, microswitch trigger, and throttle. I have a slightly better one now from Logic3 that my dad got from a colleague at work. It has about 12 buttons including microswitch trigger, a hat, twistable stick, and even vibration according to the switch on the bottom!

oh man i remember lhx attack chopper! in 95 or so we got our first windows pc. It was a 486 and i had lhx installed. i played it for hours! But at that time i was 9 or 10yrs old and almost understood no english. So i played it just without understanding the missions or even identification of friend or foe.
Can anyone tell me how to the TOW missle was aimed or steered? I shot them just straight into the sky and that was it.

My first game controller was a very cheap plastic flight yoke that my uncle sold. Can't find any photos of it online as it's not one of the usual suspects. My uncle and dad were into MS flight simulator in the mid 80's and that's why he started selling them. It barely worked when new, and had sticky mechanics and bad potentiometers, as usual back then. I later modified it with pedals made from LEGO.

Mine was the Wingman. Dad used it to circle strafe in Shadow Warrior back when people couldn't do that using only a keyboard.
Fun fact the Wingman was used in the show Farscape with the joystick cut off and the base spray painted silver. It was supposed to be some sort of sci-fi beacon but when every time I see that lady using the trimmers to hack into it I lose it lol.

I vaguely remember the first joystick that I used back in the 90's, it had a white base and black stick but I couldn't remember the manufacturer for the life of me. The second joystick that I still have is a Logitech Wingman and it's showing the age when I tried to play Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on the PC via GoG with it feeling mushy when trying to move around.

My first joystick was a Saitek Cyborg of the early 2000's era, up until that point we didn't do much with game controllers we just used a keyboard. But then we got Flight Simulator 2003 and realized that we needed a joystick to play it efficiently. I still have that stick to this day and hook it up every once and a while and it holds a special place in my heart.

On Christmas of 1995 my sister and I were given our first computer that had a 75 mhz Pentium in it. One of the things my parents got with it so we could play Microsoft Flight Sim 95 was a CH Flightstick. The stick worked great with flight sim but what's this? What is this -shareware- disk in the box with it and what is this -Doom- game? Life changed forever.
