Ridiculous Movie Castings That Never Should Have Happened
video description
But when a character that's always been white, and at times even characters from ancient white European fairy tales as and the like, like The Little Mermaid for instance, is replaced by a black person or whatever then it's progressive and something to be applauded.
The seething, corrosive anti white, anti western hatred is becoming clearer and more undeniable by the day.

Frankenstein with DeNiro its the best version of it ever made so far. I dont get this silly statement about failed casting for this role. Generally looks a way better scary and this film is a true horror rather than comedy-type all other versions. Cmon your views are scattered.
The problem with Frankenstein is that the original book was much more philosophical rather than a bloody horror genre so they might make sth like that in the future and creating remakes like Victor Frankenstein has no sense if it doesnt bring any value.

Stop white washing what about black washing? What about princess tiana whos bashed off of a white princess. What about the multiple white MCU characters played by non white actors? What about cosplayers? L in that terrible live action film? What about other countless examples. Or can only white people be racist? Most of the Asian characters look 100% white (even blonde hair) in anime but the second somebody whos white with blonde hair who looks like the character everybody flips their shit.

I seem to remember hearing that the creators of Ghost in the Shell having no objections to Scarlett Johanson's casting in the part. In fact, I believe they defended it saying her anime character was never actually identified as Japanese. I don't know. I never watched the anime. Eisenburg and Wahl are ALWAYS the wrong choices, but why didn't you mention Jared Leto as the Joker? Everything about his performance was wrong, wrong, wrong! And that look. So dated it's already old and stale.

I don't agree with the Ghost in the shell bit. Even the Japanese were surprised at the outcry: They felt the appearance of the protagonist was immaterial due to the franchise's themes of self-identity and the blurring of artificial and natural bodies. It was pretty much only Americans complaining about white washing. That's a little telling isn't it? Also Eisenburg turned Lex Luthor into more of a crazy person instead of the evil, cold, and calculating person he actually is.

Ghost in the Shell: Bulshit. Manga is by definition white washed! Big round! eyes and western faces.
No one in Japan was giving a damn about the casting. The should have worried more about the script.
I still can not understand how you could dump down and disect such a rich story.
There was even plenty more stuff to scavange in the mangas.
But hollywood only triggerd fans with key visuals and lost the rest of the audiance with a luckluster adaptation.

I'm sorry, did I miss something. The Major in the original Ghost in the Shell looked about as Japanese as I do. In a lot of anime, many of the main characters are caucasian. I believe to appeal to a wider audience. In any event Scarlett Johansson looked closer to the Major than any Asian actor could. Good movie, good casting, should have stayed closer to the original anime.

No mention of Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt in Interview with a Vampire? Lestat was an 18th century arrogant French aristocrat and actor before being turned into a vampire. But you'd never know that watching Cruise's performance. To make matters worse, the character is 6 ft tall with wavy blond hair and grey eyes. Who decided Cruise was a good fit for this role?

scarlett johanson was actually great as major. was just all the controversy about he being white. but most anime characters are westernized with eyes and hair that are coloured and light skin and dont look asian to start with.
i thought she looked just like major in the anime where as an asian woman wouldn't as the character has western features

Scarlett Johansen as Major - whitewashing, racist
Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm - hey, why not? If you don't like it, you're racist
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor - good idea! He should have also played Thanos!
Mickey Rooney as Mr. Munioshi - umm, sorry Scarlett, sorry Michael.
Oh, and here's a bad miscasting: Jared Leto as the Joker
